Mambo! Yep mum - sorry - I'm vegetarian again. If you look at the last picture here then it may help you understand why. Actually, all the current volunteers have gone veggie. I'm not even sure you would call the stuff meat. Getting really quite bored of the food here. Beans, peas, bananas, avocados, chipatis, rice, potatoes and pasta. Think that covers the menu. Yum! I'm sure you're all jealous. This is why for Helen & Mike's last night we treated ourselves and went to a 'Western' restaurant. It was full of Mzungus. Patrick (our African volunteer coordinator) said he [View Full Entry]

Hello again! Camera charger fixed but blew my I-Pod :( Think the power surges may be causing problems around here. We now have a computer in our house but there is only enough power for it between 2 and 5 in the afternoon (when most people are out we are reckoning!). Right now I should be doing my washing (always by hand), hence this is a perfect time to write! Lots of news I think. I'm really excited about the new school building. Some work has been done on it and it now has a yard with a fence around [View Full Entry]

Hi again All is well here, thankfully, after almost dying on the rim of Ngorongoro crater. Ok, so I exagerate a little, but had a bit of a scary experience! Last weekend I went on a camping trip to Lake Manyara, the Serengeti & Ngorongoro crater. All the aforementioned places were stunning and we were really lucky with the different animals that we saw, without looking very hard. We saw quite a few lions....we sat for about 2 hours watching one hunt wildebeest, watched one run from a Maasai, and saw one extremely close up sleeping by the roadside. The [View Full Entry]

45 apparently. 50 if I adorn myself with jewellry. Not quite the 500 I asked for. Apparently Mike the Maasai has only 60 cows but his father has 1500 and he reckons his community would be able to pitch in and help him and would I take 450? I wasn't expecting this. What do you reckon dad? Got somewhere to keep 450 cows? I have been having quite the time with the Maasai community lately. A lot of people here really don't like them. They are often not called by name (and instead just 'hey maasai'). The reasons I have [View Full Entry]

I have some good news - I got my luggage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Extremely happy about this! June 9th has been declared national bag day. We had a lot of help from Paradise. We actually met Paradise the night I arrived. An American girl, Liz, arrived on the same flight as me. She was going to be doing a similar volunteer project (but through a different company), and had not been met at the airport. We ended up taking her with our group, and dropping her off at a hotel in town, where she was met by her project leader, Paradise. He made quite [View Full Entry]

Hi all Well, not going to lie, I am having a pretty bad week here in Africa! I still have no bags and it is an absolute nightmare trying to solve problems here. My friend Helen went to the airport to pick up boxes for things that her friends had sent over, for our projects, and was asked for a million shillings from the customs officers for example! Anyway, today I was told that my bag should arrive at the airport tomorrow. Wish me luck with that one! I am starting to blend in with the orphans. I just got [View Full Entry]

Jambo! Just writing really quick to let you know i am still alive (just). i have been here not even 24 hours and i feel like it has been a year. not quite but so many things have hyappened. i finally got here after an extra 9 hours in nairobi airport. i actually used a sleep room there (kind of like a prison cell). thyink i really offended the lady working there by appearing before my reserved 'wake up time'. anyway, i am still wearing the same clothes as i was wearing when i left arran as my luggage is right [View Full Entry]
