Here we are in buzzing Cordoba, Argentina's second largest city. Getting here was a dream and the semi-cama Flecha Bus was so comfy, we all managed to get a decent amount of sleep on the way down from Salta. Well, everyone but me that is because I made the mistake of drinking a big bottle of Pepsi Max before we travelled so I was riding a caffeine high until well past 2am! When we arrived in Cordoba bus terminal, we parted company with Chet and Carly as we had all booked separate places to stay. We decided to walk to our [View Full Entry]

Is it me or are things just whizzing by at the moment? Perhaps it´s down to our recent illness and the fact that we´ve hardly felt up to doing much but suddenly here we are in Argentina with less than 2 weeks to go until we fly back to England. Yikes! Salta is a pleasant city and since Glynn is up and about again now, we´ve been for some nice long walks to see what the place is all about. In all honesty, nice as Salta is there´s nothing here that I would say defines it from any other large, modern [View Full Entry]

Hi-de-hi campers. Only me again. Sorry I haven´t got round to posting the rest of our Salar de Uyuni photos but continuing illness has forced us to spend a rather inordinately large amount of time in bed of late. The good news is that things are finally looking up but it's been a rough road to get here. I was lucky enough to get well soon after taking some much needed medication from the pharmacy in Tupiza, our final destination in Bolivia. It seemed that Glynn was also on the mend but celebrations were premature and despite feeling rough as hell, [View Full Entry]

Jude and Glynn meet their mighty steeds.
This blog is well out of sequence so don't worry if you think you're going mad - we really are in Argentina now and not Bolivia and more. However, this was such a nice day out that we didn't want to leave it out of the blog altogether and it's only now that we have a decent enough internet connection to share the photos of our horse riding adventures with you. Enjoy :-) ---------------------------------------- Most people who visit Bolivia seem to bypass the lovely small town of Tupiza and head straight past either south to the Argentine border or north [View Full Entry]

Howdy

Hello Everyone Well, you may have noticed that we´ve not updated the blog for over a week now (thanks to those of you who posted messages in the mean time) but after managing to elude the dreaded tummy bugs that plague travellers in South America for almost 3 months, we finally fell ill. Really ill. It´s hard to know the exact cause but we suspect it was a pizza at Minuteman Pizza in Uyuni. The morning after eating there I was in pretty bad shape but we were due to go on our 3 day salt plains tour and I stubbornly [View Full Entry]

Jude gets herself a new geyser.
Our third and final day on the salt plain tour began well before dawn even broke, at 4.30am. By 5am we were all shivering in the jeep owing to the near -10 degree temperature hanging in the air. After about half an hour, we stopped by a series of geysers and thermal vents where we could hear the steam hissing violently from the ground although seeing it was another matter entirely - it was darker than Tim Burton movie out there! On we drove until we reached a little hut by a lake. This was why we had got up [View Full Entry]

I was the only person up in time to catch this amazing dawn break over the salt plains. Cool.
Time for a bit of a catch up folks. Sory for the wait..... ---------------------------------------------- Day Two Having slept for almost 12 hours solid, I was the first person to wake up on the second day of our salt plains trip and the most amazing dawn awaited me. I stood on the porch of the salt hostel and watched as the sun broke over the endless horizon and illuminated the sky in burnished shades of red and orange. It was really lovely and so peaceful too. Both Glynn and I felt a lot better for our marathon sleep but still couldn't [View Full Entry]

Pretty much everyone who comes to Bolivia comes to Uyuni. This desolate, isolated town that is quite literally a hundred miles from anywhere and slap bang in the middle of a dusty desert plain is far from appealing. Why then do so many tourists come here? Step forward the Salar de Uyuni or salt plains. Back in La Paz, we had been so pleased with our jungle trip with Inca Land Tours that we booked our trip to the salt plains through them too. They in turn booked us with a company called Sol de Manana and our first impressions [View Full Entry]

The last few days here in Sucre have been lovely. We spent Wednesday wandering around the city centre for over 5 hours picking up school supplies with the help of Alex, our guide from yesterday, who knew pretty much where to go and could help us with negociating a good price. By the end of the day, we had amassed 2 atlases, 4 thick algebra books, 4 dictionaries, an introduction to Maths for primary kids and a set of the first four Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter books weren't actually on the list the teachers gave us but I [View Full Entry]

Bolivia really is the most amazingly beautiful country. It's sometimes hard to believe we're in the middle of South America in an apparently third world country when we're having such a brilliant time of it but today we saw a bit of both the magnificent splendour and abject poverty of this intriguing land. Today we were off on an adventure into the Maragua crater, which lies about 25 kilometres from Sucre. It was another early start for us with Alex, our guide, collecting us from the hostel at 7am. We were surprised to find that our US$70 not only paid [View Full Entry]
