Sorry I haven´t got round to posting the rest of our Salar de Uyuni photos but continuing illness has forced us to spend a rather inordinately large amount of time in bed of late. This blog is well out of sequence so don't worry if you think you're going mad - we really are in Argentina now and not Bolivia and more. Hello Everyone Well, you may have noticed that we´ve not updated the blog for over a week now (thanks to those of you who posted messages in the mean time) but after managing to elude the dreaded tummy bugs that plague travellers in South America for almost 3 months, we finally fell ill. Our third and final day on the salt plain tour began well before dawn even broke, at 4.30am. By 5am we were all shivering in the jeep owing to the near -10 degree temperature hanging in the air. Time for a bit of a catch up folks. Sory for the wait..... ---------------------------------------------- Day Two Having slept for almost 12 hours solid, I was the first person to wake up on the second day of our salt plains trip and the most amazing dawn awaited me. Pretty much everyone who comes to Bolivia comes to Uyuni. This desolate, isolated town that is quite literally a hundred miles from anywhere and slap bang in the middle of a dusty desert plain is far from appealing. Why then do so many tourists come here? Step forward the Salar de Uyuni or salt plains. Back in La Paz, we had been so pleased with our jungle trip with Inca Land Tours that we booked our trip to the salt plains through them too. The last few days here in Sucre have been lovely. We spent Wednesday wandering around the city centre for over 5 hours picking up school supplies with the help of Alex, our guide from yesterday, who knew pretty much where to go and could help us with negociating a good price. By the end of the day, we had amassed 2 atlases, 4 thick algebra books, 4 dictionaries, an introduction to Maths for primary kids and a set of the first four Harry Potter books. Bolivia really is the most amazingly beautiful country. It's sometimes hard to believe we're in the middle of South America in an apparently third world country when we're having such a brilliant time of it but today we saw a bit of both the magnificent splendour and abject poverty of this intriguing land. Sucre is a lovely city. The first thing that struck us was how much nicer the climate is here. Arriving at 7am, it was warm enough not to need a fleece and as the day progressed, it just got warmer and warmer to around 25 degrees - perfect! Rather than head to bed as we usually do after a long overnight bus ride, we felt alive enough to go out exploring. Being back in La Paz has felt good although I was wiped out on our first full day back from the jungle with a severe bout of altitude sickness that left me weak and nauseaous and lacking in any kind of enthusiasm. We had been due to meet up with the other English travellers we met on our jungle tour but I just wasn't well enough.
