Return of the Ninjas Asia » Japan » Mie » Uenoshi
We made it! After a non-starter on Wednesday and a wash-out yesterday (rainy season finally kicked in big time), today we finally got to the much anticipated Iga Ninja Museum in Uenoshi. The skies had cleared completely by this morning and the day's forecast was hot and sunny, so off we went. It was a long journey to get to Uenoshi from Osaka, involving 4 trains and a fair bit of waiting - very unusual for the Japan rail system is so wonderful. The journey was still fun though as we got to stop off in some really out of the [View Full Entry]

Wavy corridor
Don't look down!
Through Road

It's been a relatively quiet day again today. Neither of us slept well last night as it is so warm and stuffy at night. We had intended on visiting the Ninja Museum today which sounds really cool but lack of sleep made us slow on our feet and we didn't make it out of the hotel until 10.30am. Instead we wandered over to the Floating Garden Observatory in Umeda, about a 20 minute walk from where we are staying. To say the building is huge would be like calling cheesecake mildly tasty - a massive understatement! The building was right in [View Full Entry]

Geek alert
Yet another tower
Uniform fetish

When we checked into the hotel yesterday we picked up a free magazine about the local area. When Glynn saw an advert for an American comic shop, his eyes lit up like the Tokyo Tower. So today, for want of an easy day, we decided to try and find the place. At first we had thought the shop was in Osaka as it seemed just a short journey away by JR line. As it transpired, we ended up in Kobe, another city altogether! Now Japan is generally very helpful with having lots of things written in English. One thing they are [View Full Entry]

Now I know it's not been long since my last blog entry but something quite bizarre happened to us early this morning that we wanted to tell you about. It was about 5am and I woke up for no apparent reason. It felt like the bed was a bit bouncy and my first thought was that Glynn was messing around for some reason. I was about to ask him what he was doing when I notcied he was fast asleep. Then it dawned on me what was happening. I woke Glynn up and broke the news to him that I thought [View Full Entry]

The Bear Necessities
How You Doin'?

Oh my God, do my feet ache or what? It's been the most unexpectedly amazing day but as always, there's a price to pay for our fun. Today's adventures took place in Miyajima, an island not too far off the coast from Hiroshima. Our day began with a short train ride followed by a 10 minute ferry trip across the bay. All of this was included in our Japan Rail Pass again so nothing extra to pay :-) The island itself is quite mountainous with lush green vegetation and plenty to see and do. When we arrived at the ferry terminal, [View Full Entry]

The third stop on our tour of Japan is Hirshima. We arrived yesterday after another very comfortable and lightning fast ride on the bullet train (God bless that Japan Rail Pass we bought in the UK, it has saved us an absolute fortune!). Our Hotel is the Hotel Flex - all the hotels have odd names over here it seems - which is close to the train station and only a 15-20 minute stroll to the main drag. It's another small but comfortable room but this time we have a lovely view over the river - the first time we've had [View Full Entry]
