Lazy Day in Bangkok Asia
When we arrived back at the hostel last night for our night at the cinema, there was a note for us from our new friends asking if we wanted to go out for dinner with them the following evening. As the night was still reasonably young, we popped down to the bar to join them for several beers and good conversation that went on till the small hours of this morning. Needless to say, we had a bit of down time today. We made it up in time to get breakfast but fell back into bed soon after and ended up [View Full Entry]

We read in our travel guide that the best place to go shopping during the week is Siam Square, so we hopped on the sky train today and went to check it out. For the most part we were pretty disappointed as many of the shopping centres there are geared towards people with far more money than we have. If you like brand name shopping, then the Siam Paragon and Central World Plazas are for you. We mooched around for a while and got talking to a Thai lady who just approached us on the street and seemed keen to practise [View Full Entry]

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? It certainly has done for us in Bangkok so far thanks to a major beer session at the hostel bar last night with some new British and American chums. The beer here is a lethal 6.5% but you don't notice the effects until it's too late. Needless to say I woke up with a bad hangover :-( It wasn't the best day to be hungover today because we got to meet up with my penpal, Lek who I've been writing to for almost a year now. He lives here in Bangkok and kindly offered [View Full Entry]

After all the troubles we've had travelling to not so pleasant places, it was a wrench to tear ourselves away from Siem Reap. We enjoyed our stay there so much that we're already talking about going back as soon as possible and there was even talk last night of what it would take to set up a home and business over here - that's how smitten we are with the place! Last night we couldn't face packing so instead we went to the Khmer Kitchen for another delicious feast and drowned our sorrows in several beers at our favourite haunt, Angkor [View Full Entry]

To finish off our rather large collection of photos from Cambodia, here's a few from our last day in Siem Reap. We already miss life there and look forward to seeing the lovely people at Earthwalkers Guest House again soon (fingers crossed!). [View Full Entry]

When we awoke this morning, the skies were clear and bright so we decided to give the bikes another try. Thankfully I had better brakes this time though the saddles on both our bikes were pretty uncomfortable. We set off earlier today and were at Angkor Wat before 10am being spurred on with many more cheery hellos from fellow local cyclists. We parked our bikes and sat by the lakeside for a while simply enjoying the beauty of our surroundings. It was easy to imagine how Buddhist monks have come here over the centuries to reflect and meditate with nature's glory [View Full Entry]

Wet and Not So Wild Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap
Today turned out to be a bit of a non-event as we were slow getting out for the day and paid the price for our dilly-dallying. We had planned to rent bikes and pedal over the Bayon and Angkor Wat temples but didn't actually get going until 3pm.... We hired white bikes from the hostel, a system where every penny of the rental money goes to support a local school which is cool. They were a bit knackered and my bike's brakes were on the dodgy side so we took it nice and slow. After about 25 minutes into our ride, [View Full Entry]

After 2 days off from temple spotting, today we reached for our passes and hit the ground running. We managed to visit a staggering 6 different temples today, so here's a brief run-down of each one (if I can remember which was which!) 1. Preah Khan - biggish temple with huge trees growing through parts of it. Cool :-) 2. Neak Pean - small central temple surrounded by 4 large pools of water (no water today though). Base of the temple is 2 entwined coiled serpents. Nice enough and a bit different to other temples but not mind-blowing. 3. Ta Som [View Full Entry]
