Apology
I just signed into my account after a long break and saw your comment. I am very sorry if I upset or offended you, I in no way meant to imply that the Yazidi people worshipped the devil, merely to comment on the fact that some people believe they are, but these people are mistaken. I obviously did not make my own views very clear, so i am going to edit this entry now to make sure I do not cause offense to you or anybody else. Please let me know if you are ok with my new entry and also if youw ould liek to leave any comment about your beliefs and experiences to let readers see your point of view please do so, I would be very grateful. Apologies again, India Stoughton

Still here
I'm reading your blog still here in Damascus. It's 4:30 on a cold Wednesday February morning, whilst arak infused memory bloated Damascus moves on, only to sumble home humbly missing those who have left it's ever-present walls. But as I sat on Kassioun I remembered when we silently hummed along to this: Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky With one hand waving free Silhoutted by the sea Circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate Driven deep within the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow. Keep recording these instances, lest they become such cliched memories, al-Hind. x

I want to go there!
Can I come next time you go? Will have to change passport to get rid of Israeli stamp but seems worth it. Why does the middle east get such a bad press? It sounds wonderful.

It was pleasure to have at hostel
Sef.We enjoyed having staying at hostel and we miss you.The ever smiling face that added happines to hostel atmosphere. Since you left us to live in your apartment(I trust you are happy)we have installed a firemens pole for those who are in ahury to climb down the wall to the main street below. On a sad note You adopted bay tabooleh the kitten has died soon after you left you caring mums.I think she missed the love and care that you gave her. We have now another kitten that walked though the door with one of the guest and adopted us her family. Her name is Falafel. She has good life (well much better thatn the streets)at hostel with her extended family of the rabitts and tortoises. Renovation works are going at full speed at hostel and hope to be ready to receive guests end March inshallah. By the way Abdul one of our drivers has been given the sack.As you may have noticed from your trip with him to Aleppo he dsnt fit in our organisation. We always like to give our client the information /unbiased advice and they make decesion on tours and tripsI had feed back from various clients that he was too push,a smooth talking salesman and they were kind of obliged to go along with him where they realy did not want to go or did not need a car/driver to do the trip ie using buses. They felt being ripped off so to speak. We had no alternative but to terminate his emplyment/contract.

Happy Birthday
Hi Ind - just to say I am so happy you are having such a wonderful time - beats Newhaven in November! Also Jaz - my insane Indian friend - who gave you your Koala bear when you were born, has just found my website and I am meeting him next week. Lots and lots happening here workwise on the storytelling front (not so much money-wise unfortunately) but it will - and I'm doing lots of writing too. If you can find a book of Syrian stories, buy it for me. Love you lots. Mum

Great title
What a great title. I just had to read it! Sadly, being groped is the price one seems to have to pay for being a woman traveller. I used to find a hatpin useful on the tube.

Sounds AWESOME!!! I love the fact that if I had been there I would have told the fatty to keep his hands off you very loudly and rudely and then everyone would have looked awkward. I cant wait to see you! Bring me back a pretty present and take a photo of a potential arty man for me to marry. Thank you and goodnight xxxxx

Electrocution nag
Indie darling I especially like the fairy castles. I do not like the water heater and washing machine malarkey. Can you get your landlord to get it fixed, or can you get it dealt with otherwise? You must know someone who can help. Or move. It is nuts to risk being electrocuted. I know you are only there for a short time now, but then electrocution only takes a few seconds. Please do something about it. C x

Nice blog
Hi India, I have been following your blog with interest. It's been about 4 years since I was last in Syria and although I am currently in Egypt I will be visiting Syria shortly (I hope). Your comments about Lattakia were really funny, I didn't have a good time there either but I went in mid winter and it was raining and cold and that's about all I remember. I am also studying Arabic although not formally, perhaps we will meet up one day. All the best.

Hi Indie Not too keen on the whole niece-nearly-dropping-over waterfalls malarkey, but otherwise that sounds great. I've never done fall climbing and am jealous. Do you know when your flight home is yet (email me)? Chantal x
