So, we finally made it to California yesterday after 52 hours on a train. It was a pretty incredible trip, the rockies on one side and the prairies of Wyoming on the other. We also saw a whole lot of nothing. Pleanty of desert and a few antelope. We saw thousands of cows, but no bears when going through the forests. The trains are lovely, with loads of leg room and reclining chairs and even an observation carriage which has floor to ceiling windows. We got some great commentary from the drivers and workers throughout the trip. Unfortunately we ran out [View Full Entry]

On Sunday we went to a chinatown festival. It was boring, and just a means for advertising Mickey D's. So we headed back into the city and went to Navy Pier. We went on the ferris wheel (also Mc D's) and got some amazing views of the lake. We found an incredibly posh deli and bought some tasty cupcakes which melted, yum. We had a half price ticket to go round the maze, it was scary and Lucy had to hold Imogen's hand through the dark bits. Even though there were 6 year olds running around. Monday was a stressful day [View Full Entry]

So our penultimate day in Toronto left us to our own devices. Beforehand we went for our first ever Sushi trip, it was interesting. We then headed downtown and mooched around, we were planning on going to the ROM but it was a bit to pricy for our budgets. We headed back early and went to the store as we decided to cook some lovely english grub for our hosts. (Shepards pie and Victoria sponge.) On our last morning we went for a bike ride around the neighbour hood before catching two busses, a train and a streetcar to get to [View Full Entry]

So we have had a couple of very busy few days. Yesterday we got our tourist on and went to the CN tower, its tall. Like really tall. Its also incredibly ugly. But on a clear day like yesterday you can see for miles and miles as the top deck is 1500 ft high. They have a glass floor too which is really neat, and everyone lies on it to take pictures, it was mighty windy up there aswell. We had a brief tour of downtown to see where to go over the next few days before heading to the distillery [View Full Entry]

We finally arrived in Toronto yesterday morning after a very long trip. It was very odd driving up to the border, getting out the coach and going through the checks before getting back on 10ft further down the road. Of course theres always someone who gets it wrong so we had to wait around for over an hour, we did see and extremly cute bird though. Violent thunderstorms greeted us and after much confusion of where we were meeting the woman were staying with and the panic over the fact we had no Canadian money, the sun began to shine and [View Full Entry]

Weve had a very relaxed few days, sitting in the park, going to the cinema and lazily wandering around shops and aquariams. Its been lovely Boston is a beautiful city but unfortunatly its RAINING like no mans bussiness. Not much else to write really not much happening, doing the freedom trail tommorow when it brightens up a bit. Just had a lovely pizza for tea and were still eating a lot of bagels. Keep in touch [View Full Entry]

Yesterday was our last day in New York, we had a lazy sunny morning in Brooklyn. Came back to pack in the afternoon and got incredibly lost. Even though we catch the same train to the right street we still seem to end up at a different station each time! We spent the afternoon in central park and later met up with Lucy's friend whose doing a summer camp here for some dinner. We went to a lobster place, Imogen ate a potato. We then wandered a few blocks down for the famous Macy's fireworks, they were amazing. We had an [View Full Entry]

Wandered down Madison Avenue after a late morning and ended up at the Sony wonder lab. The Challengers should remember this from last time (still the same, still free!) Was fun but we were the oldest ones there by about 10 years... Went to the NY public library after miles of wandering trying to locate it again, unfortunatley no winnie the poo but we did see the decleration of independence hand signed by Jefferson. Travelled back to SoHo to buy more nectarines that taste like they fell from the heavens above. Ha. Spent the afternoon just hanging out in Centeral Park, [View Full Entry]

We went to the zoo saw lions and tigers but no bears oh no! But we did see kangaroos and tapirs and monkeys and tutles and lizards and mice and a nun. We also sat on a bench and ate a really boring muffin. At 42nd St we saw a man playing a saw. As we waited in line for the top of the empire state a family quizzed us on the ratio of rabbits to cats in english households. Then a woman did a similar thing on the ancestory of wales. Obviously these are subjects we are both very familiar [View Full Entry]

So here we are in the old big apple, 23 hours of travelling really wore us out but luckily we got lost on the London underground and not the New York one. With all the museums, art galleries, shows and sights its hard to decide what to do first, so were off to the zoo. having our first experience of hard core youth hostelling with 8 girls to a bathroom and 3 different sleeping patterns its an adventure. Cultural adjustment no 1: Working out which way to put your metro card in the barrier. Hope your all well, keep us posted [View Full Entry]
