Today the longest bus journey of my trip begins. It’s 28 hours from here to Washington DC. And even though I left the hostel at 8am, I once again, barely made it in time for my bus leaving at 10:50. It was a ridiculously long journey to the bus station on the two city buses I had to take, plus a taxi ride. What is it with having to cut these things so damn short every time? On another note, I had fifteen minutes of time to meet up with another forumer I know, by the name of Alex. He lived close to the bus station and I told him we could try to arrange a meetup. And it worked well enough; we had time to chat and cover pretty much everything that there was to ... read more

First thing I did today was head to the beach. Even though the weather today wasn’t that great; it was windy and slightly rainy, however, the water was still perfectly fine, if not warmer than yesterday. Or at least it seemed so. It was my start to the day and I swam around for a bit. It was a little choppy so I didn’t go in too far, or stay in for too long. I then decided to take a bike ride around Miami Beach. There were stationed bikes available for hire, and I haven’t seen much of the city itself yet. So I took a ride around and took pictures wherever I decided to stop. I rode up and down Miami Beach for an hour. Shame the weather wasn’t that good, though at least it ... read more

So today, our day trip to Orlando was planned. Matt came to pick me up from my hostel at around 11am, and we headed out of Miami on the way of a three-hour road trip. As we drove along, we pumped up Kesha, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry music, our three favourite female artists. This made the trip go by very quickly. We got to Orlando at around 2:30pm and entered Universal Studios. The second one I've been to, after the one in Los Angeles. We couldn't actually enter the theme park until 6:30pm though, because our tickets only covered us for Halloween Horror Nights, an event taking place once a year. So in the meantime, we spent time walking around the city-walk just outside the park. We did some shopping and bought some gifts for ... read more

Today I had my first swim of the trip. I had plans to meet up with Matt, as he had to check in today as well, but that didn't end up happening. He was tired from work and there was no free parking around here, so it was better for him to cancel at least one of the nights. And I decided I was going to go for a swim at the beach. It was literally a two minute walk from my hostel, so I was able to leave all my stuff inside. Can't really take my wallet and passport with me when I want to swim. The water was really warm. Much warmer than in my town in Australia. I stayed in the water for quite a bit, and I was able to cool down ... read more

And so I got to Miami. Well, Fort Lauderdale. Because that's where Matt was coming to pick me up; another one of my good internet friends. We had quite a plan for the next few days of my stay here. Matt drove me to Miami Beach, where my hostel was located. We had a walk around and had some pizza, then it was time for me to check in. Matt decided he was going to spend two days here as well, from tomorrow. So we just hung out, and drove around. I was quite tired though, due to lack of sleep of course, so we called the day short and I went to sleep at my hostel. A very early sleep it was, I woke up at around 9pm and went out to have dinner, then ... read more

Another long day of travelling by bus of which I thought was going to be boring. Twenty-four hours from here, to Miami. Or rather, Fort Lauderdale. So there I was, aboard the bus at 10am. I was minding my own business, having my iPod playing. I went through Mississippi and Alabama again, seeing what I missed at night time. Not long after arriving in the state of Florida, a girl who was sitting in the next row over asked if she could sit next to me. She happened to be really cute, and the thought of talking to her happened to cross my mind beforehand. So I thought, why not? It looked like she wanted a chat, and I could do that. The last place of all I'd expect this kind of thing to happen though, ... read more

Today I actually spent most of my time at the hostel. I headed into the French Quarter again. I wanted to check out downtown, but it didn't look like it was worth seeing. So I explored the parts of the French Quarter that I hadn't seen yet, and took some pictures. I wanted to try some more Cajun creole cuisine. I ordered some shrimp creole on Bourbon Street and it was tasty. The waitress was pretty. Just thought I'd mention that. Did I mention that the waitress was pretty? That was pretty much all I spent in town today. I headed back to my hostel, planned some more of my trip, had lunch and dinner, chatted with some of the guests, watched movies and listened to my iPod. A relaxing day if ever there was one. ... read more

October 24th 2011

After a good night's sleep, it was another two mile hike to the next hostel, where I'd be staying for two days. This hostel was pretty interesting. It was called India House. Fancily decorated, and containing a swimming pool. This was a relaxing place. I think I'll enjoy it here. I relaxed for a bit, and had a swim in the pool. I then had a chat with a young English couple that came by the pool, younger than me in fact, and we shared our stories, itinerary and all else there is to share with common travellers. I then took street car, or tram if you will, into the French Quarter of town. I tried some Cajun and creole, what New Orleans is famous for. Expensive, but good stuff. It's what you definitely have to ... read more

October 23rd 2011

This time, lack of sleep has really done it for me. I was dead tired as I hopped off the bus, barely able to keep my eyes open. I suppose it's because of the hour breaks in between two bus stops during the night, where I couldn't just continue sleeping on the bus. I was able to lie down with my legs across the seats, though. Weren't too many people on board - I guess trips aren't popular at night. When I got to New Orleans at 5:30am, it was still dark, and the crescent moon was shining up above between the buildings. It was a pretty sight. I liked it here already. And the first thing I noticed as I was walking along the streets, was that every passerby was saying hello to me. Must ... read more

October 22nd 2011

Most of today was spent travelling. I was scheduled to depart for New Orleans, although I wouldn’t get there until tomorrow morning. So I thought it would be a good idea to stop by Huntsville to see one of my friends from the internet, called Will. I left my hostel in Nashville at 7:30am and made for my bus leaving at 8. It would be a two-hour ride to Huntsville. I stopped in Athens and grabbed a cheeseburger. Yes, Athens in Alabama, not Greece. Once I got to Huntsville, I contacted Will and he came to pick me up in his car. Good to meet him; another one who I’ve known for quite a long time over the internet. About four or so years. The first place we went to was the Space Centre. I knew ... read more
