Hi Guys, We were up very early to catch our boat. Laura was not looking forward to trip as she had heard that the crossing can sometimes be a bit rough. Most of the journey was fine there was some good views on the way out and it only got a bit rough when we were out in the open ocean which was only for a hour and luckily Laura was fast asleep. We arrived into Wellington and the only place to stay that is right in the city is this small car park with showers and toilets that has been opened as a place for campervans to stay the night. We were a bit surprised when we had to sign a disclaimer saying we accepted the risk that we could be robbed etc etc! Despite ... read more

Hi Guys hope you are enjoying the blogs and you are all keeping well. So we set of early from Franz josef on what was to be probably one of the longest detours in history! With the bridge still not repaired we would have to drive all the way back to lake Wanaka and then head back across the south island to Christchurch! We decided along the way that we would stop for the night in a town called Timaru which is about 100km from Christchurch. The journey here was very long and expensive as it used up more than a full tank of fuel in the van. But we did manage to have beautiful weather along the way which gave us some amazing views of Mt Cook and lake Pukaki. We got checked into a ... read more

Hi everyone! So we headed off early from Fox township to Franz Josef. We checked in for our Ice Explorer trip and met our group. Our guide was from Tazmania and quickly informed us it was a "choice day" to be on the glacier, he was great fun and very informative. We all got given coats, gloves, socks, boots, crampons and a bag to to carry food and drinks in. We got briefed and then we scrambled into the Helicopter and we flew up and landed right on the glacier!! It was unbelievable! The sun was shining and due to the weather being so bad in recent days they had got a fresh metre of snow so the colours on the glacier were just spectacular! The pictures say it all :) We spent 3 hours trekking ... read more

Hi everyone, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! We arrived into Wanaka on New Years Eve and we could feel a buzz in the town straight away. Down at the lake front the shops and bars were full and we could see the lads at work setting up the stage for the street party that was being held that evening. After driving around for awhile we eventually found our holiday park which was a little out of the town and to get into it we had to drive about 3k up an unsealed road which was a complete nightmare in the van. Even driving at like 5mph the whole van was shaking violently and the dust was covering the van!! We settled into the holiday park, cooked some dinner and then got ready to head out for the night. ... read more

Hi All, After Christmas we headed off to Te Anau, a small town close to Milford Sound. We stayed here for one night and just took a walk around and chilled in the holiday park. We played some frisbie and even the ice cream man popped in for a visit which made us both very happy haha. The following morning we got up very early and headed off to Milford Sound. For the most part the drive was easy and very scenic, unfortunately we did not have great weather so visibility wasn't great but it was still beautiful, the road did get very narrow in places and very windy so it took a good 2 hours to get there. We had booked a tour with Mitre Cruise for a 2 hour cruise around the sound. Waiting ... read more

Hi All, So on Christmas eve we left Dunedin for Queenstown. Ian's sister had kindly booked us a room in the adventure Queenstown hostel so we wouldn't be on our own over Christmas. We got checked into the lovely hostel and signed ourselves up for Christmas breakfast and dinner that was organised by the hostel. We had a really nice room here which must have only been recently done up as it was all so new. We had a nice walk around the town and we were surprised at how different it was from the rest of NZ. It reminded me more more of a European ski town than what we had been seeing. Its really beautiful set on the lake Wakatipu and there is some much for you to do. That night we decided to ... read more

Hi everyone, Oamaru For the last few days we have been hanging out in a cool little town called Omarau. The town is most famous for seeing blue and yellow penguins but it has a really cool historic part to the town and they have a cool festival every year and everyone dresses up in clothes from the 1800's. We got checked in to a lovely top 10 holiday park here and had a lovely walk down to the town and through the towns gardens. That night Ian reluctantly agreed to go to see the new twilight movie Laura had wanted to see for ages. The cinema was small but it was quirky and the film and popcorn was good so we had a good night. We spent the following day walking around the towns historic ... read more

Hi everyone!! So after all the relaxing in Lake Tekapo we headed back on the road in search of Mt.Cook the highest mountain in Australasia. The scenery on the drive here was fantastic it was just such a pity that when we reached the first look out of Mt.Cook which is at Lake Pukaki it was very cloudy so we could not get a great view and the camera did not pick up the amazing turquoise blue colour of the lake. We headed on down to the base of Mt.Cook and took a look around the famous Hermitage hotel, which has a museum dedicated to Sir Edmond Hillary a New Zealand native who was the first man to climb Mt. Everest and he climbed Mt.Cook many times in preparation for his Everest climb. We then parked ... read more

Hi everyone, well we have had a busy start to our time in NZ lets fill you all in. Christchurch So we arrived into Christchurch at 4.30am and hung around for a few hours waiting to catch a bus into town. We were both exhausted after travelling through the night. We met a lovely bus driver on the way into town who gave us lots of tips on places to visit. We eventually found our YHA hostel (after Laura walked us to the wrong one convinced she had booked the YMCA hostel haha) We were then told we could not check in til 2 so we both headed upstairs to the common area and fell asleep in the tv room for a few hours!! We eventually went in search of food at 1pm and quickly began ... read more

Hi everyone, We hope you all are well we're just coming to the end of our 4th month away. Time is just flying by. Our last stop in Oz was Melbourne and we had a fantastic few days. We arrived in the city centre at 6.30am after a very long over night bus from Sydney with a driver who insisted we vacate the bus every time he stopped for a break including a stop at 3am!!! We took a tram out to St.Kilda which is a seaside town about 20 mins from the city centre. We had booked our last 3 free nights with the base hostel there, but as we arrived so early we had a very long wait to check in. The hostel offer a late 12pm check out to guests for a fee ... read more
