Hey toots....Jaclyn and I are going to wait in Medford for you to arrive vs. go to the airport. Believe me, this is killing me. But I think with Jaclyn waking up at 7 or later I would never make it to the Bailey's in time. I hope you are having a great flight. You should be landing in San Fran within the next few hrs. Which means USA USA USA! Phew!!! See you in the morning ~ ahhhh~ Love you!!!

It's just the beginning - From: Beginnings and Endings
Kristin, You have brought tears and laughter to our days and nights of reading your truly remarkable adventure. As much as I want you home I don't want you to end this journey. I am amazed at myself for the lump in my throat knowing this will be coming to an end. I feel you have brought all your following closer to you and to each other, never even meeting the others. You have given us all a wonderful 6 weeks of summer. I am grateful for learning so much about a culture I never even thought I would care about. I called you a crazy woman right from the beginning, oh you are crazy, crazy for going after that something that none of us would even dream about. We all have our dreams, and thank you for letting me into yours. I truly enjoyed every minute of it..........love you and stay safe. I want a blog as soon as you get home!

Have a safe trip home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - From: Beginnings and Endings
I am so happy for you and your friends. You have done what so many people say they will do, yet never follow through. It is exactly what the graffiti said on the wall in that picture "Live in the moment, or your life will pass you by" or something like that.. but in any case, I can't wait to hear your stories at girls night! Have a safe trip home.. and from reading your blogs, your plane ride may just be the 1st good sleep that you'll have.. rest up and we'll see you soon!!!!!

Once again, commenting although we've never met. Thank you so very much for the special glimpse into this journey - it has been enlightening, touching, thoughtful, as well as quite fun to read! As a bystander, I think it was as interesting to read the comments of your friends and loved ones as it was to read the blog entries themselves. Each of you have so many in your life who love and support you and I can tell that your adventure has made an impact on them in so many ways as well. I am hoping that my own 15 year old daughter has similar journeys in her future....sharing your trip is quite the inspiration for what (hopefully) is to come for her. Thank you again and have a safe and enjoyable trip home! Best, Suzanne (and Gia) (friends of Mike and Eric's)

the more we travel the less we really know... - From: Beginnings and Endings
You have faced your fears and discovered something beautiful in return. Do you know how lucky you are? Do you realize how many people travel, and how few really "see" the world. You have opened your mind and heart to new experiences and in return you have learned more about yourself than you could have ever imagined. You should feel proud and accomplished. You had tremendous couage on this trip. Not only physical courage, but spiritual as well. It takes courage to expose yourself to others, and you did that in each and every blog. Good for you! I am counting days until you return. I went to school today and started to pack up my classroom. It is much harder than I thought. I need your help! Be safe. I can't wait to see you!

Seems as though you have learned so much in just six weeks. You are wiser then you realize. That's for sure. You make me proud to hold the title "Kristin Howell's sister!" Enjoy the rest of your time there and your journey home. You will be here before you know it. I can't waaaaaaaaaait, this last week has been the toughest for me. Knowing you are so much closer to coming home and all. Be safe and God Bless. Love and miss you so much! P.S. Anne is dropping your dress off to me today, it's black and halter. Not even the dress Momma and I had thought she got, the one we suggested had a whole in it or something!?!? But it's also a way bigger size then we suggested so I'm sure you'll need to take it in. I'll fill you in on the rest when you get home. Poor Anne, not what you want to be doing the week of your wedding, reordering every dress and your own gown! YIKES!

Anne's wedding - From: Sales and Purchase Dept
Nope, Anne's dress never came in and none of the bridal party dresses are in. She called again today - me and Ma have been figuring out what size you are. Based on not seeing you the last 6 weeks I told her a bigger size vs the smaller size just incase. You can always take in, but to take out is not as easy. Especially since you'll get this dress 3 days before the wedding. But please, shower before you get alterations. I'm thinking that may be a must. Ma mentioned something to me about strapless. She called me while I was working today but I couldn't answer thinking she was going to talk cake anyways. But nope, more dress issues so she called the house and Momma told her the size and style - soooooooooooooo, if you hate it, not much we can do for ya. haa! So yup, "my maid of honor duties" are good - I've figured out the dress for you, doing the wedding cake and doing the rehearsal dinner cake. Not bad! I don't know what Anne is doing about her own dress. Scary. I offered her mine and based on the fact I'm 5 feet and she's closer to 6 we didn't think it would work! ha! So no, we don't have a dress here for you yet. I'll call her again tomorrow. Boy do you owe me - I think I've done more for you from Thailand to Meffa then Meffa to Meffa. I can't wait for the payback! Be safe and love you!

PLEASE, I would like nothing more than to sit down, say hello, and then go to bed....maybe a, meal some place in there.

A play... - From: The Kayak
...written by you was a great idea! Loved it and could picture it very well. Think I'm going to write a play.. Jaclyn: Momma Momma: Jaclyn stop it. Jaclyn: hitting Momma: Do you want to go in the naughty chair? Jaclyn: naaaaugghy chair! Actually the hitting has stopped, think she was just overtired during the day but you get the drift. Anyways, I'm starting to get butterflies about seeing you. I want to know your plans until you get on the plane. I think Jaclyn and I are going with Janice to pick you up at Logan. Is that cool?? Obviously I have your car here and your phone/keys etc. Oh, I spoke with Ann again, she got you a grey dress the other dresses did not come in. She put the rest of the bridal party in pink but got you grey knowing you hugely detesting feelings about pink. :)) And I was serious, if anyone wants to come here to greet Kristin the morning of the 20th, you are invited. Ok, be safe. No more kayaking, it makes me nervuos and I'm with you, stay close to the shore. Miss and love you and CAN NOT WAIT FOR WEDS!!!!!

YIPPEE!!! - From: The Kayak
Kristin - you did it!!!! You got in the water. I know how HUGE that is for someone who is terrified of the ocean. I've always been a water person - but that is because my father basically threw me in it when I was little so I had no choice! I'm very proud of you! I'm proud but not surprised - you do anything you set your mind to. I have one question though - how come there have been no blogs about "ping pong"?? I thought I would be scared to read them once they were posted, but now that there haven't been any....I'm kind of curious! Are we skipping this part of the trip?? Plus, I have gone and told a few people about you possibly viewing a live "ping pong" show and they are DYING to see if you went and if what people say about it is truth or fiction. Ha Ha Ha! You sound like you are having an experience of a lifetime. Stay safe and get your courageous butt home soon! Can't wait to see you and hear everything in person.

Looks like the best part of the trip is the end. Sitting on the beach enjoying the ocean and sun. Finally some nice blue water, very clear. Snorkling is like float in space. You can see forever and just be. I am glad you are enjoying the warm waters. Have you seen any fish yet? After seeing those Cig boxes, I wouldnt buy any. They are just sick. Enjoy yourself.

I did chuckle at Jeana's Africa comment. I'm not so sure I should be the one with her. Judy would handle her much better than me. Hi Kristin, I love the play. You sure have more nerve than I do. Never in a million years would I go kayaking in unknown waters. Greetings from the Brooks - From: Small Reflections in a Big World
Dear Mike, Eric, Kristin, Christina, and 'fellow travelers'-- Following all of your trips has been fascinating and educational. I truly feel as if I've learned so much about the world that I would never uncover on my own. Not only are your individual exploits interesting, but your connections, both through meeting up and through discussions of shared experiences, add an incredible depth to the experience. You can't imagine how exciting it is for me that four teachers from my school are out there experiencing the world in ways that most of us will never be brave enough to try. When we say that we like to have teachers who bring different experience and backgrounds to a school, we don't realize what the potential really is. What you're doing this summer adds such an amazing dimension to our community!

Kristin you said it best when you said your a saver not a spender. You have the mentality that you need to save every penny and while that is admirable I don't think you need to be upset about spending some money on yourself. You are one of the most decent, humble, selfless people I know and its only right for you to do something for yourself. Kudos to you! I am proud of you that you will not be letting your fear of the ocean impact your decision to snorkel. Remember to relax...the rhythm of breathing comes with relaxing in the water. This weekend we are leaving for Maine. It will not be the same without you but I trust you will be laughing to yourself at various times over the next few days recounting our tales on the wild river and our "only in Maine" encounters. Enjoy your last few days and hurry home safely! Miss you lots!!!!

I'm only writing really because I will be first to commenyt. I don't have much to say, to be honest. I did get servrd a meal by a movie star yesterday, so that's a worthy comment I think. As for the sea, it's a good job I'm not there because you would definitely be in by now! As for backpacking: you don't have to approach it in the constantly moving way you did on this trip. You can stay in one place for a long time, then move to another you know. See you back in sunny Medford! mike

Good night! - From: Small Reflections in a Big World
Well I hope you have fallen asleep by now and are dreaming sweet dreams! And I pray that Nightmare on Elm Street scenario I just pictured didn't happen either. (note #6 on the blog) On thought #5 above, I find it completely humorous you consider Africa "not as far" but I do love the "not as long" part. A lot of civil war in Africa so keep that in mind - did you ever here of the Janjawee (spel?) or see the Last King of Scotland?? If not, we will watch that together - dictators are crazy. Anywho, back to my comment. I love that the #1 here is that Mother = Queen basically. I keep telling Jaclyn she can be a princess but her momma is the queen. :) #3 was a huge sigh of relief, keep referring to the chemists suggestions please. #4 was yet another sigh of relief on the karaoke. Everyone says we sound exactly alike (you poor girl) so thinking of my voice thru a microphone is just hilariously funny. Anyone that knows my voice I'm sure would agree - no further projection necessary, especially my laugh. I'm also deathly afraid of the water? Kristin, how did this happen to us, we had a pool growing up and I'm sure I can find a picture of you with your nose plug on! Quite the fashion statement. Which brings us to #2. I know this may be crazy but can you ship the items home to my house? Am I crazy to think FedEx? UPS? What about a second backpack? An actual suitcase? I'm happy you splurged though and it's more ambition for me to lose the last of the baby weight to maybe borrow some of this stuff. Although your frame is still smaller then mine. Ok, I think that is it. Blog again soon please and thank you! Love and miss you still!

Ok, some of these entries have not made me feel any better about the trip but....As I read about you custom designing your own clothes and for only $450 I began to realize that we are not that different after all!!! And if you still feel guilty think of this, 1. that is a great investment, people pay a lot more money for a lot less clothes and 2. Finally another blog! I've been waiting patiently. I love that I can log on though and see the last time you checked a comment, which has been every day so I know you are ok. It's sorta like Christmas for all of us also waiting for you to send a blog and see what you have written and discovered, where you are etc. So happy to hear a toilet with toilet paper flushing away is your current situation. Phew! Everything is great here. I am happy to say you'll be home NEXT WEEK! Ya! I was up at midnight letting Sligo out cause he was dry heaving (I think I should have my own blog to entertain people) and I wrote a list of things to discuss with you. 1. Do you need a ride home from Logan? 2. I mailed your check to the credit card like you asked. 3. I will call again today about that vaccine bill. 4. Have you pooped?? (sorry, but I'm concerned) 5. Ann was supposed to drop your dress off last week and I talked to her yesterday and none of the dresses, including hers, has come in. She's in panic mode for sure. Worst case, if the dresses are not in today, she's going to have you all just wear black dresses of your choice. So FYI on that. I could have sworn there was something else but I can't remember now. I must agree, you don't sound as chipper as you have in the past. You are almost here! And to anyone that would like to come to my house to see Kristin when she arrives, you are more then welcome! I would be more than happy to continue writing as the school year begins. I think it would be a very useful reflective tool. I may miss blogging, minus all the waiting and hassle of finding the internet. You never know, maybe there is a JK Rowling gene within our veins. I'll take a poll and see who wants to venture into the life of a third grade public school teacher with us. It may be a good idea so that teachers can finally get the respect they deserve. I'm off to give the moped another try. I can go straight , I just can't turn. And to think I saw a woman brest feeding her baby the other day while on one. Really makes me feel inadequate.

How is little baby Bella doing? Are you spoiling her too much? What else have you been doing this summer? How are the kids? I knew you'd be happy for school to begin, seeing as you had September and October planned before summer started. Go team Brigida!

A fake bug? Yes, in a country where there are few hospitals and more homeless children then tourists, the locals spend time making fake bugs so Americans can take photos and send them back home. Brilliant idea!

When I read your blog I've shared your stories and pictures with my family, especially my kids. I try to learn and explain to them how other people around the world live. You have in a way made it more realistic. I can not wait till you come home, and we (you, Breanna and myself) sit down and I could hear first hand about your experiences. Take care and be safe! Also, Breanna had her beautiful baby girl! Hope to see you soon!!!!! Ann Marie, Michael and the boys!

I love reading your blogs. You continue to make me laugh!!!! Believe it or not, but I am looking forward to getting back to the classroom as well. I've been home most of the summer with teenagers so I'm sure you know what I mean. My new addition (13 week old golden) has been quite the challenge. She now goes to training and she is not the problem. It is her owners!! Bob and I try to be stern, but she's so cute it is hard to not laugh at her. Can't wait for you to see her again. On a different note I got contacts for the first time and I needed them so I wouldn't have to wear glasses for my upcoming vacation to Bermuda and for our family picture. But as you can guess I had lots of trouble getting one of them out last night. It was either to the emergency ward or to continue to try with the help of a neighbor. Needless to say I won't be able to use them for my family picture or vacation since my eye is a mess. I scratched it badly and I look horrible!!!! Miss you so much!!! Love, Cheryl

Homesick!?!?!? - From: Short, Sweet and to the Point
It will only last a day or 2. Remember.... Eat all the foods you've loved, you'll crave them once you can no longer have them. Take in all the smells, they are the things that can NEVER be duplicated. Breathe the people, when you get home no one will understand where you've been, who you've met and what your eyes have seen much less be interested in all the little details of your life in the way that the thai people are. They make you feel really interesting. (not that you're boring, but you know what i mean. To them you're an anomilie(sp)) And most of all... I'll be there soon and everything will be ok. BTW, am I meeting up with you guys? Where are you headed? I have no guide book, instructions would be helpful. I'm sure I'll manage but really, help a president out! Dreams.... - From: The Man on the Bike
It is amazing. If you had your students write down their hopes and dreams you will find a few who say things like healthy family, nice house, ets. And then there are the masses that will simply list off playstation games and the like. That is why you had to go on this trip. Now you can REALLY explain to them what it is all about. Not a one of them has ever worked a single day in their life. And in Medford, hunger and poverty don't exist in quite the same vain as in the rest of the world. We have homeless shelters and food pantries and welfare. Our poor live better than most people in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Cambodia. Crazy... and people at home sit in their comfy houses in AC afraid of the third world having no REAL understanding of any of it. Pompous once again, but would you argue now that you've seen it first hand? I wonder if Americans are afraid for their personal safety (nice job George W., you convinced most of them) or afraid of seeing how bad other people really have it. Leaves you feeling guilty when you do. ...

Something in common??? - From: Trials and Tribulations
Do we actually have something in common? Rob and I did the Road to Hana on our Hawaii Honeymoon and it's a van ride up the side of a mountain, peering over a cliff, so close to the edge of falling to your doom. And yup, people were pulled over to the side of the road vomitting with dizziness and everything else you can think of. It was not pretty but we both survived and I was not one of the sick ones. Although I felt like my head was going around and around in mountain circles for a day or two. ICK! I must say, if you didn't call, this email would have me very concerned. And about your call, THANK YOU!!! Hearing your voice, well, from my bawling the "ugly cry", I think you know how I feel. I am so happy to know you are homesick and not moving to SEA any time soon. Two weeks from today hunny and you'll be here. :)))) (I told you six weeks was too long.) You sound wonderful but I can hear in your voice how ready you are to come home. We will be waiting with open arms for you......once you shower...... and debug. I'm happy that you left the bathroom situation the way you did in the blog. Cause what you described on the phone will give me nightmares for weeks to come! We miss you very much and feel free to call asap again. Thank God I answered and didn't think that weird 20 digit # wasn't someone selling something. Thank God I was home, OMG, I may not leave now thinking I could possibly miss your call. So youīre heading to the islands next. Iīm sure youīll have a great time there. When do you guys return home? What about Paci? Iīm starting my last week in Brazil now. Classes.... - From: Water For Elephants
Hey hunny......Miss you so much and am counting down the days until you get home. These pictures are incredible and your interpretation of everything through the blog has really had everyone glued to their computers this summer! It's the best summer read - we should have put it on Oprah's Favorite Things show!!! Jaclyn ran to the computer to see Auuuuuuntie and an "ehaphant" or so that's how it sounds. I finally got Rob to sit and read a page and let me tell you, he sat in amazement of the pictures and read quietly while I changed J's diaper and got her into her jammies. Then he hit the sentence and read out loud "talking about the Buddhist religion (which I am seriously interested in)." He got up shaking his head! Haaa! Good thing he hasn't read any other blogs - he's not into summer reads. haaa! ssshhhhhh!!! Ok, keep us posted and am so happy we are on 8/5 and you'll be home in 2 weeks. AMEN! God bless, be safe and you girls watch out for each other. All our Branley love!! :)))

Funny you should mention photography because I have been looking up classes online after a beautiful sunset made me feel I had a "calling"(I'm in if you want to take a class). deep thoughts.. by Kristin Howell - From: 15 Hours Worth of Random Thoughts While Riding on a Train
Do you remember that Saturday Night Live Skit "Deep Thoughts"... well that was what this blog reminded me of. I found it rather entertaining.. I like how you're mixing it up a bit. I can't wait to hear about the elephant rides. I just saw an Animal Planet special on elephants.. they are the most amazing creatures. Kind of makes me a little sad that they have been captured and now used as recreation for tourists.. but enjoy your ride anyway. Don't forget if they get nasty.. they LOVE beer so keep some handy. Be safe.

Hi Kristin, I am so glad you are doing this blog. I'd really be worried, along with everyone else ,if I didn't know where you were or what you were doing. That fruit doesn't look too inviting. Can't wait to hear from you what the thing is that looks like an egg with hair growing out of its side. Sounds like you really enjoyed that show. The elephant peeing... must be nice to just stop and go where you want. That would be great for Murph & me:) As far as your friend Christina, I'm sure you can handle her. Afterall, you did travel to Greece & Italy with and "Irish Princess:) Stay safe and be careful. God bless. Love, Carol

I'll be sure to show Jaclyn the picture of your peeing elephant when she wakes up - start'r off young! All is well here. We miss you as always and pray for a safe trip for Christina. Keep us posted! I have so many people hooked to the blog!!! LOVE YOU!!!! xoxox (p.s. Grammy took a complete tizzy yesterday over the mouse blog and I believe her words were something like this.."you tell her if she even thinks of "pulling" something like this again I'll stick my God Damn foot down her throat." And then the second part of it went something like.."she better get a God Damn physical when she comes back, I don't care what precautions she took!") You're in trouble, you're in trouble!!! Randomness - From: And Then There Were 4
1. It's 3:50AM and I randomly woke up...how I found myself online reading your blog...I have no clue. 2. These are the most "reasonable" pics so far...it may be the first time I wasn't COMPLETELY horrified. 3. Still about the pics.....VERY entertained/fascinated by the elephant peeing...looks like it DUMPED a bucket of water. I went to the Anheuser Busch Plant in NH for a tour last week and was fascinated by similar experiences with the Clydesdales...we'll talk about that later though (we'll keep it PG). 4. Sad about Estelle..thought of you right away...loved little Sophia. 5. Miss you too much....get home safely. Love, Me xo

Keep us posted and know Iam thinking of all of you. It was an eye opening experience in Cambodia. We here don't know how luckywe are and soemtimes we complain becasue we can't buy evrything we want but do not necessarily need. It's life simple necessities that we all really only need. Pass it on to all the folks in the USA. Stay safe, thinking of you. Love Lucille

Bangkok and Thailand - From: Roaming Around
A note on Bangkok... Try to appretiate it for what it is...a huge city. People there have seen than their share of tourist over the last 20 years and are very well versed in making money from them. The only thing that really seperates it from Cambodia is that the Cambodians haven't fully been able to take advantage of tourism because all those years of the Khmer Rouge. If they had a choice they would rather make money from tourist than live impoverished lives unable to feed their children. No doubt that in another 10 years Cambodia will be a lot more like Thailand in that regard. The rest of Thailand is a slower pace than Bangkok and has much to offer. It will be difficult to get away from the endless touts and hawkers though, you will get used to it. If you manage to spend a little more time in the places you travel to, you will get to know a few more locals, like Barb, and it will be quite satisfying to know that not everyone just wants to make your money somehow. I have finally found a few people like that here in Legian and geting to know them has truely made me a better person. Teachers here make $20 a month and they have to pick up their students on the way to school in the morning I know that doing so is tough because you sacrifice seeing as many places. It is a tough balance but you'll find it!

Faith?? - From: Smiles Are Universal
Well we are happy to know Malaysia is out. Is Christina already flying? Per your itinerary you are to be picking her up on Tuesday. I'm assuming that is as planned. Are you meeting up with Eric P at all? And of course I have faith in you. But you have traveled to Camden NJ more times then you have traveled to Disney. You tend to gravitate towards the Camden's of the world. Did you not have to duck down in Camden NJ at a Habitat for Humanity house due to a driveby shooting? And did you not sleep in the streets during some part of your European trip a few years back? So although I may have faith in you 100%, it's the rest of this crazy world I fear. Stay vigilant and keep us all posted. The blog is awesome! Miss and love you!!! xoxoxx Your very loving neurotic about you to the core sister! xxoxoxoxoxxo

Don't worry, Malaysia is out now anyways. We were too caught up in Cambodia. On Wednesday we are heading north. I'll blog again tonight or tomorrow. By the way, there was always a travel warning, not for the entire country, just an area. Just like in USA, there are good parts and bad parts. Wouldn't want a family to stay away from Disney because Camden, NJ is not a good area. Have a little faith....:)

Even in my bed here in Medford, I'll have one eye open, and every bit of me under covers. Someday I'll tell you my Russian mosquito hotel horror story, though it pales in comparison with the nets keeping the mice off you last night. Small price to pay, though for this amazing experience you're having. Thanks for taking us with you!!

Remember I said how much I hated snakes??? I hate MICE and RATS equally the same! Ugghhhhh! I literally got the chills, gasped and held my hand to my mouth in an awwwwwwwing motion! Dear Lord Kristin Howell! What is wrong with you!!!???? Get home right now! That is disgusting, I'll reimburse you all $5 if you get a better hotel. PLEASE! Oh Kristin, I'm so not picking you up from the airport and I'm so hosing you down before you even think of getting on my street, let alone anywhere near #54! I'm afraid to even tell anyone this story. I hated this blog although I've logged on 20 times in anticipation of it. Kristin, I've been reading them to Grammy, what will she say now??? She already blames Eric and Mike at school for "brainwashing" you into this trip. (FYI Eric and Mike, Grammy is a sweet old lady but has a vicious streak if pushed!) I ran from a bumble bee this morning, swear to God. But I did sit with Jaclyn and watch a baby bunny eat it's breakfast. Nice of you to share your version of pizza with us ---- or maybe not. Is 6 weeks up???? We love and miss you and I love love love this blog! xoxoxoxox P.S. Michelle and Joe asked Rob and I to be Cameron's Godparents! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!

Freaky! - From: Khmer Rouge
Ok, I just hopped online in hopes you updated the blog as your email to me yesterday promised. So I was reading everyone elses comments and your fregin car alarm just went off!!?!?! Freaky or what?? Now I'm even more worried about you that that was some sign of something. Be sure to write soon. And even from Cambodia you managed to wake up the neighborhood. You must have woken Jaclyn up out of a sound sleep cause she was screaming/crying but not a peep out of her now. What button do I press on your key chain? I pressed yellow and your car turned on and the alarm turned off. Do you even have an alarm? The horn was blowing like crazy, more like my panic button on my car. But not a sole in my driveway and your keys were tucked away in the cabinet like they have been. I'll try not to use all your gas up shutting that horn off. Let me know some suggestions, I'm shaking, nearly knocked me off my seat it scared the **** out of me. Love and miss you!!

Why were you THAT close! I went snorkeling and was freakin out about the little tiger fish swimming within a 5 foot radius! I guess my versions of "adventure" drastically vary from yours! Anyway, now is where it's going to get hard for me bc I'm home and it's going to start to sink in that you are NOT going to be around for another 5 weeks! There are those of us old enough to remember the Killing Fields. We watched every night as Peter Jennings brought the war into our homes. You are wise beyond your years to realize that history forgotten might be repeated. Now you know and will stand guard with others to ensure that genocide is exposed, condemned and stopped for you have walked the fields and the dust is not easily shaken. Ok sweetie, now get to a beautiful spot that makes your heart beat with joy and take a moment to thank God for your life, your courage and your ability to experience all you have and to share it so eloquently with all of us. My love, Lauren

Bargaining - From: A New Dawn, A New Day
Ah, the joy of bargaining. The highs and lows. Itīs quite an artform, isnīt it? I bet you the local paid half that, and in my opinion so they should! I think the trick is to be comfortable and amused while you bargain: itīs a social thing a much as a business thing - itīs not as cut throat as it appears when you start doing it. No such bargaining over here. Fixed prices and thatīs that. Iīve tried to write back to you for most of your entries, (even though you never reply) but after today I wonīt be writing for 10 days or so: Iīm heading into the jungle! Iīll look forward to catching up with your adventures when I get back! mike

It's hot here too! - From: A New Dawn, A New Day
I know it's not Cambodia weather but boy is it hot as hell here. No snakes, no orphanages, nothing adventurous but still, something we have in common right now! Been a quite day here at our house. Jaclyn is napping and hasn't been put in the naughty chair or near the First Aid Kit today - but the day is still young. I loved the picture of you guys. Although I don't remember that man in the middle which means he's a stranger and you should never talk to strangers Kristin!!!! Have I taught you nothing? He may be the type of person Dad warned you about - refer to last phone conversation when he reminded you to never carry a bag on to an airplane for someone else. haa haa haa! We are coming up on the first full week you have been gone and it seems like forever. I think your car in my driveway is depressing me. If it's out there, I expect you in here fighting over who will eat the most chicken dinos and Doritos - you or my husband!! He's winning now! Before I forget, I talked to the woman about that vaccine bill for you, she said they resubmitted to Tufts. Besides that, very quiet. Be vigilant of your surroundings and be safe. Miss you so bad it's starting to really hurt!!! Love you with all my heart! Oh God, I'm choking up! SOB!! Oh p.s. Jeana -- shut up!!! haa haaa!!

I think it is beyond admirable of you to visit that orphange with gifts. That is an amazing aspect of this trip. May God watch over them all and you my dear sister. We miss you much and can't wait for you to be home. How come it seems like you have been gone for so long already and it's been less then a week that I cried holding on to you in the street at Janice's begging you not to go! Ughh! I am enjoying the blog. Love you so much!! xoxoxox Oh p.s. Jaclyn fell in the driveway yesterday and clipped her head on the fence, she looks rough but she survived. Her head grew into quite an egg instantly! She's tough as nails though, was more upset about the ice I insisted on, then the fall itself. xoxoxoxxo

Sexy Show - From: Suckers Smile!
Today I went to get a pedicure and a sweet little Vietnamese lady kindly did my toes. We got to talking about summer plans and of course me going to Thailand came up. She told me that Thailand was beautiful, however she said the most important thing I should do in Bangkok was go to a Sexy Show to see the tranvestites! It was so unexpected. She then mentioned how I should go get a Thai Massage and take tuk tuks rather than cabs. She was so excited for me to see the Sexy Show I found it quite disturbing. Now, I can't wait to get there! WHY? - From: Suckers Smile!
I've tried to take a deep breathe and really be more open when reading these blogs ---- this has closed me right back up. Why would you travel 28 hrs for a six week trip for this???? Snake milking, horse blood, lizards, crocodiles, a 13 hour bus/roller coaster ride to Cambodia??? ICK! Ya know, they spotted a Bobcat in the woods at the end of my street - let alone the already known coyotes, bunnies, turkey vultures, dogs, cats, turkeys -- see you could have gone for a 28 min walk and had quite an adventure not leaving Meffa! Anywho, all is well here - Red Sox are in first place at the All Star Break. Blog/email again soon - I'm waiting!!! Love you!!!!!!!!

Itīs great to read your blog now youīre finally underway - you seem very excited - Spelling is rubbish though! ( just joking!) Homeland items: 1. Remember to argue about prices - you need to find out from people how much standard things should cost now and be willing to bargain for everything: from hotels, to water, tuk tuk rides to stuff your īīfriendīī was selling. If you take a picture of someone it might cost you on the Khou San road! 2. Be polite but firm if you donīt want something!! Khop Khun Khap for the cat pic! Remember: My Kow Jai! Sister Anxiety - From: Today is the Day
Ok, she really is going. ~sigh~ Dropped her off to the Bailey's to go to Logan. And yes, I did cry and hold on to her for dear life begging her not to go in the middle of the street. (I have witnesses to prove this happened.) I promised Kristin if anyone abducts her I will search the rest of my life for her. Probably should have thought of something more clever to say or at least nice, like I love you, have fun, we'll miss you. But nope, that was all that I could get out! Then I said Our Fathers and Hail Marys the whole ride home, sobbing, while Jaclyn sang the alphabet in the back. Then thought, how will I ever get thru Jaclyn going on a vacation? College?? Hell, Kindergarten!!!!?? Kristin hasn't even taken off and I'm waiting for the next blog entry. Is it Sun or Monday yet?? This'll be the first summer I wish away. (minus the one I was pregnant and swollen in) Kris, I miss you terrible already and feel so lonely without you. But I guess I could say my farewell now -- I love you, I miss you and have fun!

hey girl, just saw the link to your blog on facebook. what a great idea. i am SO excited for you, you are going to have such an amazing experience. hmm and let's see- frizzy hair or blood-sucking leeches? i think i'd go with frizzy hair, although leeching IS supposed to have health benefits ;) anyways be safe, take TONS of pictures- make sure you have enough memory cards. the last thing you want to do is be in the jungle and see "memory card full" on your LCD screen. OH and as for headlamps- jamie loves his (yes he is a dork) it is his favorite camping supply ever. We'll have to get together after I come back from the west coast and we can swap travel stories, although something tells me yours will be a bit more wild. Happy trails!

friendly faces and pick up lines - From: 5 days and counting
Iīm afraid the number of bad pick up lines is likely to escalate not diminish while youīre away. This will be balanced by impossibly large numbers of friendly faces. One of the things I love about travel is the instant deep friendships that happen when people meet far from home. Itīs like youīve known these people for years, but you only met them yesterday! Iīve got three long sleeve tech fabric shirts, three pair of zip off trousers, 4 pair of socks. Iīd take a bit more if I were you. One of the routines is having to hand wash your clothes, then have them dry in time for travel or use. Consider, long sleeved shirts rather than tank tops - cuts down on the amount of repellant you need to put on. Remember, day biting mosquitos give you dengue, night biters give you malaria. Therefore, avoid getting bitten as much as possible. Donīt necessarily follow the scantily clad hordes, who will swear they never get bit! This was a Homeland Broadcast, brought to you courtesy of mike

Kris, I finally got the email for the blog!! But now that I am updated...I am beginning to realize that you are really going...and SOON! That makes me feel lots of things, including but not limited to: sadness, anxiety, excitement and curiosity. Coming from someone who doesn't travel well without my pillow and flat iron, I find it amazing/terrifying to read the list of items you are bringing. It also makes me realize how strong of a person you are, and how much you have grown into yourself. And despite my thoughts that you should've have taken a Mediterranean cruise, I am proud of you for following through with your dreams. You have done this over and over throughout the past few years and it truly is inspiring. I hope you have the time of your life and look forward to being mortified/amazed by your adventures. Are we really sisters??? - From: 5 days and counting
Well just read thru this and have decided although we look so much alike, I question our bloodline!?!? We have such different ideas of vacation. I want to go some place warm, eat tons of good food, poop in a real toilet, sleep in a comfy plush bed, have every meal made and cleaned up for me, every bed made for me and every bathroom cleaned for me all while I'm sitting by the pool with a Pina Colada. I mean seriously - a rope? duct tape? I'm saying the Hail Mary and Our Father now. Please be safe.....I think I may be coming down with a case of Thai Belly myself just reading this blog??!?!? WTF is that anyways!? Ya know what, never mind. If you get it, just stay away long enough to not infect Jaclyn! Miss you already!
