A simple bloke from Singapore to venture to the sunny island of Koh Samui to be trained in the ancient art of MuayThai and MuayBoran.
This travel blog will chart my month's worth of pain, bruises, and physical anguish as i attempt to tone my flabby bod into a true fighter's physique.
Not all lessons are taught in classrooms. This will be a journey of self discovery and enrichment as i settle in an environment totally foreign from my home town.
The World Shall Be My Classroom
Alas, a break from all that diving. After a week of pure intensive diving, my ears ache slightly as they try to get use to the huge pressures underwater. During one of my dive trips, I befriended a German guy who has a dry sense of humour and a ready laugh. He revealed that his grandfather was a tank officer under Field Marshal Rommel in N.Africa during WW2 and he himself was an ex- infantry Unterofficer (Sergeant) in the german army. We decided that we would rent a 1.3L 4x4 Suzuki jeep and do a Tour de Koh Samui, exploring off roads and if possible, going up the mountains. We did lunch at Tescos and soon were hitting the dirt tracks around Lamai area. We whetted our appetites with paved tracks around Diparavan climbing steep slopes

When Steve told me that the WaveRunner had 3 decks, I mentally pictured a high tech advanced catamaran that could cut through waves like butter, but when I finally laid eyes on it after a 1 hour bus ride to the pier, it was nothing more than a 3-tiered big fishing boat. Always having to combat motion sickness problems, I put all sorts of pre-admonitions aside and looked forward to my dive. I had completely no idea that the boat ride to the Sail Rock would take a whopping 2.5 hours! The sea around the gulf of Thailand was very choppy. By the time I reached the site, I no longer entertained romantic notions

To those who are interested, this was what happened…… I had been boxing for almost 3 weeks and am glad to have seen progress in my fitness and techniques, however there is burning feeling to do something more, do expand my experience in Samui and not just limit it to boxing, no matter how much I love it. I’ve always been curious to try diving and while talking to a fellow boxer from Sweden, the way he described diving was just

I rather like this new gym because I get 1-1 personal training and the amount of stuff I learn here in a short 1 session is more than what I’ve learnt in the old gym in 2 weeks. But because I’ve paid up my monthly fees, I’m pretty much stucked. If $ was not a issue, I would swap over to this new gym in an instant. If anybody is interested in contacts to this gym, you could just leave me a message and I’ll pass u the details. The lesson was very fruitful as Max, the thai trainer took me through my basics and re-taught me my faulty techniques. I learnt

It’s not helping in my training and frankly, it worries me.*shrugs* Maybe a foot massage will make it go away…. Last night I had a BUG infestation that almost drove me nuts. 4 days ago, small bugs similar to aphids and about 1/3 the size of ants invaded my toilet and I would wake up every morning to see my toothbrush and toothpaste covered with them. I shrugged it off and killed as many as I could and yesterday when it got a lil nasty, I had the cleaning gal to clean up my room and change

Some days they're feeling all right and there are days my left leg is just protesting with a sharp pain that stretches from the my mid shins downwards to my feet. Though it looks worse, the bruises are getting better, really. Thats great coz it teaches me to block faster to avoid getting hit :) Took my bike to travel to look at the club/pub scene in Samui and all i can say is that it is really designed to do nothing but to seperate the tourist from his dollar. There are all sorta clubs and joints for the different folks out there, be it hip hop, dance or whatever u call "your type" of musik. However the girly bars get a special mention for a extra TURN

Thai legend romances with some idea of a suicidal couple that died on this beach, hence the formation of both the female and male genitalia. I tried hard to locate the female version but I couldn’t have enough of an imagination….or it might just be i’m used to my own part :) however the constant breeze made it a relaxing place to be and I spent 45 mins there even without realizing. Chanced upon a “Samui mountain village” The ride up was demanding on the bike and many a times I thought it would fail. When I say its steep, its freaking steep. When I got to

During my run halfway I felt like a shit coming, stopped at a nearby kopitiam to take a dump. If this were s’pore, the uncle wld have made soooooooo much noise…. Early morning dnt give business, give only shit….lol. these thai chaps are really friendly… As I said, training was a killer. All I did was just to further punish my shins. During intervals I was doing nothing but rubbing boxing liniment against my shins and thighs, much to the amusement of the trainers. During kick pad phase, I learnt a great deal, these trainers are so much more forthcoming and analytical about boxing than the
