I arrived at Sydney domestic airport last Thursday and quickly raced to the international airport to meet my friend Sarah who had just arrived from London. We are staying with Sarah’s Aunt and Uncle in a suburb called Kellyville which is 40 minutes outside Sydney. The Nelson family are the perfect hosts! On our first weekend they took us in to Sydney. We had drinks next to the opera house, and then caught a water taxi under Sydney Bridge to a lovely Tapas restaurant. Then we walked around ‘The Rocks’ and went to the ice bar. During the week we went [View Full Entry]

Camper van
To children at Christ Church I am writing this message to you all from Melbourne which is about 10552 miles away from you! Last month I left Cairns where I had been working and living for a few months and started travelling down the East Coast in a camper van. First I did a skydive on to the beach. It was very scary jumping out of the plane but exciting too. Next I went sailing around the Whit Sunday Islands. The sand was sparkling white and the views were beautiful. I also went snorkelling and saw lots of brightly coloured fish [View Full Entry]

The Christmas lights have been switched on here and it feels very strange to be seeing Santas and Christmas trees whilst walking to the beach to sunbathe. I flew from Brisbane to Alice Spring last week which was the starting point of my 3 day trip to Ayers rock (known as Uluru). When I arrived in Alice Spring the temperature was 38 degrees! I arrived at my hostel. This was easily the worst accommodation I have stayed in since being in Oz but instead of crying like I did at the beginning of my travels I quickly jumped on the only [View Full Entry]

Road trip Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns
Sunday 25th October I was the first person at Cairns airport to meet the Sunday morning Qantas flight and Paul seemed to be the last person to come through arrivals. It was good to see him! I showed him his hotel on wheels which I had decided to rename ‘Bruce’. First we drove to the city and stopped at the lagoon to make breakfast on the public BBQ’s which are scattered along the esplanade. After yummy bacon rolls we drove along the coastal road to Port Douglas which I had really enjoyed when I first arrived in Cairns. It had been [View Full Entry]

I can’t quite believe that I have been in Cairns for two months, especially when I look back at my first blog entry from Cairns and remember how homesick I was. I have had a good time, experienced many new things, met some wonderful (and not so wonderful) people and learnt loads. Since my last blog I have sold raffle tickets at the local supermarket for the Lion’s club (so I am now officially a Lionette), visited Josephine Falls and another winery. I was mocked at the waterfalls because when asked why I was not going in the water I explained [View Full Entry]

Last week there was a charity day at the lagoon to raise money for ‘Breast Cancer Research’. There was a field of pink ladies, which you could sponsor in memory, hope or inspiration. I sponsored one and wrote a message of inspiration for my Grandma who has bravely gone through breast cancer twice. In the evening I wore a pink wig to work and we donated the tips that we made on the night to the charity. (We had been told to wear something pink but I was the only waitress who did, so did feel a bit stupid). I [View Full Entry]

Hello from sunny Queensland, I have had a busy week! There were lots of new people in the hostel this week, including a couple from Guildford. The hostel is still not my favourite place but I have got used to it and am sleeping better due to my routine of firstly spraying my pillow with lavender, next making a tent with a spare blanket to stop the air conditioning blowing on me and then finally putting my earplugs in. I had a horrible cold and cough last week but the people from my work looked after me by making me freshly [View Full Entry]

Hello from far away, I hope you are all well. As you have probably seen on the news, Australia has been hit by a dust storm that covered New South Wales in a blanket of Red dust yesterday, whilst up in Cairns we had clear blue skies. But when we woke up this morning it looked more like the dusk. The smog had lost its red colour but visibility was poor and the dust left me with a tickle in my throat. I have had a good week. Last Friday I went to the Atherton Tablelands. The Tropical Tablelands region encompasses [View Full Entry]
