I'm just back from a once in a lifetime opportunity dive adventure to the Galapagos Islands. One of the local dive shops sponsored the trip and we had been nearly two years waiting for the trip to happen. We departed from Dulles airport on Copa Airline through Panama City and then onto Guayaquil, Ecuador. Because of a flight cancellation we were required to leave a day earlier than expected and spend an extra day in Guayaquil. The flights to the Galapagos islands leave around midday so it's required to spend at least one night on the mainland going and coming. Guayaquil [View Full Entry]

I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to the Turks and Caicos Islands twice, both times to the island of Providenciales. The first trip was a family vacation. The island chain is just a bit south of the bahamas, not technically in the caribbean. This was a spring break trip but the weather was certainly tropical. We flew through Miami to Belize City where we then taxied to a local hotel where we met the resort boat that took us to the resort located about 30 miles off shore. Blackbird is a nice little resort (the only thing on the island at that time) that caters to divers and fisherman. The accomodations are bungalows on the sand facing the Caribbean Sea. There were only 25 or so guests the entire time. The diving was fantastic; mostly [View Full Entry]

My first dive trip to Grand Cayman took place in October of 2000. A buddy was in the process of building a rental home on the northside of the island and had asked a few of us to spend a week helping move things into the house and get it ready for the rental market. We had planned the trip months before, looking forward to doing a bit of diving between house errand. Well, if it takes 6 months or more to build a house here in the states you should at least double that time in the caribbean. At the [View Full Entry]
