The magnificent Parthenon & half the population of Athens
The magnificent Parthenon & half the population of Athens
It's a good thing it wasn't too crowded there that day
I've been back home for about 36 hours now and have had a few people ask me if I'm glad to be home. My answer? Not really! I was thrilled to see my family, especially my nephews & niece, but my head and my heart are still somewhere on the other side of the world . . . I'm not ready to be here yet!! But with that said, my five weeks were fabulous and varied and full of memories and great stories. When I last left you I think I was on my way to Thessaloniki in northern Greece. [View Full Entry]

I'm in denial!

 Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
Hello friends, Well, Mykonos was just fabulous, and it was really hard to leave! I'm in Athens now doing the sightseeing thing for a couple of days before coming home to Canada . . . yes, I'm in slight denial that this is the end of my trip, but it's definitely been more than I could have asked for. Because I'm short on time (and because I want to enjoy the super-muggy, burning hot, ever-so-polluted Athens during my short stay here), I'll update my blog properly once I get back to Canada, with pics and all! Yassas, Georgia P.S. I apologize [View Full Entry]

Where in the world is Georgia Sandiego? Europe » Greece » Mykonos By Highway Girl May 30th 2007 Georgia I closed my eyes, spun around a few times for good measure (while sober, of course), and my finger landed on . . . Mykonos!!! This is going to be a short one, kids, because it is far too gorgeous here to be sitting in front of a comp [View Full Entry]

Now they have roads and stairs . . . it used to be you'd be hauled up the side of the rock in netting. Screw bungee jumping . . . let me do that!!!
. . . yes, the black cloud has decided to follow me on this trip!! I think the gods are trying to send me a message. I'm not even going to check to see what the weather is like in England, but I'm sure it's nice and sunny. Although we've had some rain here in Greece, it's still been very warm, around 25 degrees . . . but my pasty white skin is begging for some colour!! Things I've learned in five days and have easily adapted to: - afternoon naps are not an oddity; they are practically law! Everything [View Full Entry]

Greetings from the greenest place on Earth!! My stay in the UK has almost ended, but my last week in Tarvin (& area!) has been fabulous. Some highlights: - Made a dent in a few of the traditional English country pubs with Kate & her friends - Nearly getting run over by a few thousand pedestrians dressed to the nines on their way to the derby (or "darby" as it's pronounced here!) - Riding the ferry to Liverpool & visiting the Beatles museum - Afternoon champagne at the Grovenor ( . . . funny how I drink champagne once in [View Full Entry]

Greetings from Chester . . . but let's step back a few days to London, London, London!!!! Some highlights from the last time you heard from me: - Finally found Abbey Road . . . dodged a few vehicles to get my pic taken in the crosswalk, but made it across safely (Grade 6 crosswalk patrolling does not come in handy in a foreign country!) - Visited the gravesite of Karl Marx (and for those who don't know who he is, open a book . . . we all had the same schooling!) - Sat in a choir box at [View Full Entry]

Hello friends, Well, to say that the past three and-a-half days in London have been a whirlwhind is an understatement! I can't possibly tell you everything I've seen, done, and drank so far, but I'll do my best to share some highlights: - Three and-a-half days, six different beers tried thus far - Wine on the Thames - Wine at the top of Tate Modern - Afternoon champagne at Kettner's in Soho (see a pattern happening so far?!) - Hanging with the freaks and disenfranchised punks in Camden - Being propisitioned by a bus guide to stay in London a [View Full Entry]

No, you haven’t lost your minds . . . I haven’t left yet, but you’re getting a link to my “travel” blog. Well, just wanted to make sure I know what the hell I’m doing and try to upload some pics at the same time! I leave tomorrow, and I’m currently soliciting any suggestions on how to have a decent snooze on the plane (not my best skill, I must say), as I’ll be losing a night of sleep on the jaunt over the pond. Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this page if you can [View Full Entry]

Fancy Feet

Three long years have passed since my last big trip, to Spain with stops in Paris & Amsterdam, and what I've learned is that three years is far too long to wait to travel . . . and I'm not talking a "vacation" or a long weekend out to B.C. or even a lost weekend in Vegas. I mean honest-to-goodness travel that expands your mind, your horizons, your perspectives, and if you must, your wallet. So three weeks from now as I sit on a jet flying over the Atlantic (hopefully next to somebody who lists personal hygiene in their top [View Full Entry]
