For her birthday I bought my friend Linda a book called "tea shop walks", and today we tried one out near Dolgellau. We had a lovely day, ate a picnic up in the hills and ended up in the town with a choice of tea shops. Mind you, I was glad to get back to the car! ... read more

Last week I drove down to Somerset to stay with my good friend Hilary. The weather was glorious and would have been hot in summer, let alone the start of October! We went to Wells and spent some time in the gardens, under the trees, beside the wells! And another day we picked up Hilary's sister Rose and walked in the Mendip hills. It was lovely. ... read more

It all happened this weekend! Alex won an award for all his help at the local children's hospice shop, where he cleans, polishes, sorts and irons items that have been donated. He had to go to a ceremony to receive it, but the photo is taken at home. I managed to park my car over the edge of the drive - how efficient is that. Luckily no damage, though I needed a truck to winch it out - fortunate I work at a garage! And (cousin)Janet and John popped down from Colwyn Bay to see Mum and Dad yesterday afternoon, so we caught up with all their family doings too. ... read more

although I've been back for a while, it's been rather hectic with garden produce, so I haven't got round to the blog! Sorry. Anyway, spent a few days with Kate and John in north west Wales, right on the coast. Then headed to Colchester for Sarah and Jen's 18th birthday party, followed by an "old" friends 60th in Kent - our mothers were at ante natal classes together, so we reckon we knew each other before we were born. Quite a lot of it was camping - luckily the weather was good!!!!!... read more

Phew. What a busy few days. Sophie and Tom came for 5 days, so we had a couple of days out. Then on Saturday night we had a barbie and invited a few neighbours - it was fun but rather a chilly wind. On THE day we all went for a meal at a local hostelry - which was lovely. And lots of lovely presents, good company, good food, what more could you want. Sophie has some lovely photos but I can't seem to get them on here. You'll have to look at face book. Sorry... read more

My friend Ineke bought herself a lovely new bell tent, which arrived yesterday. But she hasn't enough space to put it up, so yesterday she erected it on our field, and is our unofficial camper! I'm very jealous. Kate was also here, as she brought Ruby (dog) for a "holiday" while she and John go to France. I made us all some lunch, and whilst I was making bread, decided to try making a bowl out of bread to eat my tea out of - as seen in Paris. It certainly held the food, but it was rather tough bread so when it was empty, I fed it to the chickens. ... read more

we had a wonderful time, just not long enough - though you can't keep up the pace for so long! We walked and walked and I found that what I had imagined - from photos - was not quite right, so about time I actually visited and saw it. We stayed near Gare du Nord, so could walk to Monmartre in 15 minutes - though it took a while to climb all the steps once you're there. Handy for the metro - could be at Notre Dame in 10 minutes! The boat trips go from there too. On Thursday we met Sophie's pen friend, her husband and 3 small children at Versailles for a spectacular day of fountains, and a very big picnic where everyone was supposed to wear white. I expect Sophie's pictures will be ... read more

Never before have I been able to grow a cauliflower, so when a friend gave me 4 tiny plants, I didn't expect a great deal. But I gave them a space and some water. And lo and behold, today I found 2 beautiful caulis. So I gave one to Mum and Dad, and took lots of photos of the other, before making cauliflower cheese and eating it!... read more

It was another busy week for Alex, as his amateur dramatic group - The LADS - performed a play every night. It was written by one of the LADS, and sponsored by the Royal Shakespear Company, so had to have something to do with Shakespeare. In true Shakesperian tradition it was outside with no scenery, but an excellent show. It was about skullduggery in Stratford after William had died, and apparently based on fact. Marion, Lynda and I took a picnic to eat before the show, and luckily they sold hot drinks at "Ye Olde Inne" as the evening turned pretty chilly after a beautiful day. ... read more
