Hi all, I'm writing this having just had a relaxing swim and jacuzzi session in our luxury hotel just south of Boston, well deserved me thinks after our mini tour of New England this past week! After we left Manchester in Vermont last Saturday we headed northeast to New Hampshire and the White Mountains for more hiking/trees/beautiful countryside. On Monday we then drove south all the way to Rhode Island and the seaside town of Newport - very different from the Newport in Wales! Lovely and sunny when we arrived with long sandy beaches, clifftop walks and big mansions. We thought the hotel we stayed in there was pretty luxurious but this one might top it. The next day was blinking freezing though so we went for a bit of a drive then watched a film ... read more

As I sit here writing this there is glorious sunshine streaming through the window. But that wasn't the case the other day when we had our first taste of snow. It was great to drive through the white mountains and see some of the great views. We have been trying to walk places but America really isn't designed for such things. For example Fiona had the idea the other day to walk to a 'local' information center, which took us about 3 hrs round trip! And to top it we didn't even get there as it began to rain! Fiona put her birthday rally driving lessons to good effect yesterday as we meandered along a dirt road towards a reservoir. We didn't see much wildlife, though driving at 40mph in a 4x4 probably scared off the ... read more

Hi All My turn to write this blog! Well we made it out of Boston OK and have now arrived safely in Manchester, Vermont. It felt a bit sad to leave Boston as we were just beginning to get to know the place, but this is a roadtrip after all so it had to be done. We're staying in a little motel just outside of town. Though it is in amongst beautiful scenery of different coloured mountains and woodland it's best feature is that we have a bathroom all to ourselves, as opposed to sharing with all comers in Boston! Weather is a bit rainy and the Fall has mostly passed it's peak here, but NewsFlash I have actually been driving! Haven't crashed (yet) so fingers crossed. When we do finally return to the UK expect ... read more

Hi all, just a quickie this time round. It's almost time to leave Boston and take our lives into our hands as we attempt to drive outta the city and head for the mountains and the trees of Vermont to see what's left of the fall colours! Just walking around the streets seems like the traffic is crazy so this will be a real test of mine and Michael's driving confidence and capabilities! Boston has been great though, we have done so much walking every day to see the sights but it's just as well to burn off all the food - I so love waffles, hashbrowns, streaky bacon and pancakes for breakfast! Don't think we've seen anything too weird over the past couple of days, except a huge 18-seater hummer limousine - only in the ... read more

We're here at last! After a long flight and struggling with our bags on the tube we made it to our 'hotel' in Boston last night - the Ritz it ain't but the YWCA (like YMCA but for women) isn't too bad and certainly has a few more characters than you'd find in standard hotel lobbies! Funnily enough, the first thing we should see when coming out of the airport was sports pitches and people playing footie - can't get away from it! We (or rather I) had a bit of a blonde moment too, when it was discovered I had booked the hotel for the wrong dates!! We were worried we'd have to trawl the streets late at night searching for another place to stay but luckily the hotel could accommodate us. Today we have ... read more

It's Friday night and it was my last day of work today, feels kinda weird but in a good, exciting way, knowing our big adventure is just round the corner! Anyway, Michael and I took it in turns to add paragraphs to the poem below - can you guess who wrote what?! (clue: M wrote the romantic lines!) Fx Oh won't it be great to stay out late, To continue the party how I just can't wait, To leave far behind this dim and dismal shore, To taste places we've never seen before Let's go west to a land that's free, and independent, like you and me. A land so big and vast, full of promise and contrast. If we can make it there, we can make it anywhere! So pack your bags and let's take ... read more
