And so on a cold winter's morn began our new adventure. Determined not to be one of those people who did one crazy thing in their life and bleated on about it for years, we set off on our trip to Oz & NZ via our good friend Anna in Dubai. It perhaps wasn't as emotional leaving this time, in part no doubt as we had done this before. Dubai has felt more like a holiday than a leg on a traveller's journey. With all the freezing cold weather in the UK it felt fantastic to step off the plane at Dubai airport. Warm and welcoming were the first impressions of this place. The lights of the city sparkled as they emerged from the darkness of the flight and as we sped across the highways the ... read more

Hi folks, looking out of the window there's snow on the ground and a heavy fog descending, whilst laid out on my bed I have my swimsuits, dresses and summer gear awaiting to be packed! Can't quite believe we will be leaving for our next big adventure tomorrow, doesn't feel real, and I know we'll be sad when saying goodbye, but then I know you'll all still be here when we return (you better be)! Anyway, this is our official blog (as before) so will keep in touch through this and on facebook, we'll do our best to keep you entertained and informed with short and sweet entries detailing our adventures - try not to get too envious - it's hard to keep up this lifestyle living out of a suitcase and always being on the ... read more

Hello Sinners! It has been a while since we have done a blog as Fiona and I have been enjoying spending time at home. As you may recall we enjoyed our times at the intentional communities we visited in the States and we wanted to try one closer to home. So last week we headed off to Bradwell in Essex. Noted for being by the sea and by a nuclear power station! This has meant that although there is some lovely scenery there is not much development, as for some reason people don't want to live nearby? So off we went last Saturday, our bikes strapped to the car, and readied ourselves for a relaxing week. Some of you may not know that Fiona has got the cooking bug and will soon head to Duxford for ... read more

Hi Y'all This is it, our final travel blog! On the bus to catch the Greyhound from Seattle to Canada we came across some young girls from London who were attempting the reversal of what we were doing (West to East Coast) in a shorter time. So we passed on our bountiful travel knowledge to them and wished them luck. Crossing the border to Canada was a much more pleasant experience than when we first arrived in Boston all those months ago. We chatted and joked with the border officer whose main concern was that we had only given Canada a month but the US six! Arriving in Vancouver with the majestic mountains in the background I took off in search of some cash, as we only had US dollars, leaving F behind again with the ... read more

Hi folks. As you'll recall, our last blog ended with us leaving the Audubon nature reserve in central California and driving back down south to Palm Springs, about 90 miles east of LA. And so it was we drove the same roads we had previously driven a couple of weeks earlier, when Nic was in tow, heading back towards Lake Arrowhead and the dreaded fog! However, this time we reached our destination without a hitch - swingin' Palm Springs, home of the original Rat Pack and where Marilyn, Elvis and Liberace all had swanky homes. The reason for this jaunt was to visit an old friend of mine whom I worked with nearly 10 years ago in the Argos Factory. Since then, Tony has moved on to bigger and better things and now lives in America ... read more

Hi All. Here goes another long one. You have been warned! As you approach Las Vegas you can almost smell the sin in the air - not for nothing is this place known for extreme enjoyment and shattered dreams. You see the giant hotel blocks rising out of the desert valley as you make your way down from the mountains that surround this oasis of sin. Picking up our visiting traveler (F's friend Nicola from back home) we drove from the airport onto The Strip. These are the iconic hotels that you hear about in Vegas, Luxor, New York-New York, Ceasar's Palace and the oppulent Bellagio with it's famous fountains outside (more about them later). It took forever to drive the length of the Strip, the traffic made worse by Nascar racing being in town that ... read more

Boy have we seen a lot of rocks lately - big ones, tall ones, deep ones, hard ones, soft ones, multi-coloured ones, ones with holes in them and even ones shaped like arches. Yes folks, we have visited some of America's most famous and amazing National Parks in the Southwest and covered many miles in the process, doing a huge loop through Utah, Arizona and New Mexico before returning to Arizona. But it has been a true adventure in the heart of the American wilderness and so acutely 'wild west' country that I really have the urge to get me some cowboy boots and M has been trying on various cowboy hats for size...though I really can't see him wearing it around Basildon (unless he wants a good kicking)! We started our tour in Moab, eastern ... read more

F - Howdy all, hope you're coping and surviving with the snow and floods back home, sounds like a blast! M - It was a shame to leave Austin and Fiona's family. They were so nice to us that we wished we could have stayed longer, so thank you again Mark, Peter, Laura and co for a great time. But we couldn't leave Texas without one last great memory - a run in with the local constabulary. Yes ladies and gentlemen she had to do it. Not content with travelling at the speed limit of 80 mph, F was doing considerably more than that when she looked up and saw those flashing lights in the mirror. Her first response was to turn to me and ask 'Do you think that's for me?' Bearing in mind that ... read more

Hello Sinners! We thought we'd wait a while before we updated you on our adventure as we don't want you to get bored reading about what we've been up to. We're now in Austin, Texas, staying with some of Fiona's family. It has been good just to chill out for a bit before we drive Go West. Anyway, F left her last mammoth installment at New Orleans. To say we didn't know what to expect when we arrived in New Orleans is a bit of an understatement. As we were making our way there and told people where we were heading their advice to us was 'Be Careful'. Even the gas station attendants would warn us, but that just made us all the more curious. When we arrived in New Orleans it was packed with tourists, ... read more

I started this post just over a week ago when we were still in Mississippi but only had the chance to finish and publish it now that we're in Austin, Texas. Howdy ya'll, it's been a while since our last post because we have been busy exploring Florida and cruising from one state to the next taking in civil rights, civil wars and several chain motels! M has done lots and lots of driving (and moaning about doing so - F. Like she never does! - M) and to make you all feel better, it's colder now that we've left south Florida and it's back to wearing my cardi and PJ's in bed (yes I know we're mad to leave the sunshine of Miami but we were bored of beaches!). After leaving Miami we headed further ... read more
