| 15th May 2009 Chris Durdin | It's over - From: Dun Roamin'... (For now) Great story telling over many months ... well done to you both. Hope you cope when you come back to earth (well, Essex), with a bump. |
| 9th May 2009 Steve and Sophie | Don't they have the internet in Canada? - From: Up, down, all around Hi both. Hope your adventures in Canada are going well. Almost the end of the epic journey - we shall have to give you some sort of new names like Phileas Fogg Jnr (what is the female equivlent of Jnr?) There's a thought - you could make your own crisps when you get home. Bound to be better than my efforts at making bread. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us - it's been one hell of a ride (literally in some cases with the close call with the US version of the local constabulary). If only they'd had blogs when I was over in Russia - but then again, most of that might not have been printable. Have a safe journey back and looking forward to catching up with you at the show. We've go quite a crowd coming and they want to catch up with you too. Hopefully Sophie will be able to make it but she put her back out on Monday and so has been in bed all week. Nurse Plant has been keeping her well and she is now able to walk again but a struggle. She sends her best too. Just one thing - don't make any piggy oink, oink noises as you come back. People might just think you're mad. And don't get me started on this 'swine' flu stuff (misnomer and all that). And don't ask about the footie (bad time for Arsenal in case you didn't already know) but we did well in the cricket. The politics is quite interesting at the moment as well - a lot to catch up on. See you both soon. S & S |
| 7th May 2009 shan feifei | Minami beach, beatifui. - From: The Dawn of 2009 Thankyou for introducing the beatiful place to me,it took me breath! |

I will be able to meet you at the airport if you have not got any other offers. looking forward to seeing you both very soon. Lots of love Dad X X |
| 28th April 2009 Tony&Mars | Message from the Palm Springs Possie - From: Up, down, all around Sounds like you both enjoyed your stay in Palm Springs. Just so you know its still roasting hot here, nah nah. And what a pleasant suprise it was to meet Michael (always did have good taste that Fi) Well we certainly enjoyed your company and it was great to see Fi again... Funny to read about the charitable stranger at the bus stop. Mar had a big LOL...If you ever get fed up with Blighty and yearn for warmer climbs you will always be welcome in Palm Springs. T&M |
| 8th April 2009 Sarah | Hi ya!! - From: Everyone's a winner baby! Hi ya you two. Glad that you are still with us although it sounds like it was touch & go for a while in the fog. We are all ok. Alex is now over 6mths old and becoming a very cheeky chappie (just like his uncle lol). He is coming along nicely with starting to eat other foods. He is now eating baby cereal in the mornings, fruit at lunchtime and vegetables in the evening although today he had his first experience of chicken with his vegetables & potatoes. He really loved it. Going to visit mum for Easter on friday so that will be good. Well I will sign off now. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care & enjoy rest of trip. Lots of love Sarah, Stuart & Alex xxx |
| 30th March 2009 Daphne Plant | I'm ready for my close-up Mr De Mille! - From: Everyone's a winner baby! Hi you two winning gamblers (glad you didn't lose your shirts). You can now both say that you did Vegas and WON ! Those hotels are something else aren't they. Driving to Lake Arrowhead was dicey wasn't it (well done on the driving F). Good job you didn't find a motel in the fog though - run by Norman Bates (Psycho). That could have been scarey as Nicola and Fiona might have flipped leaving yet more toilets to unblock M! I'm only joking. It was great that Nicola was able to join both of you and that she really enjoyed herself. Spending time on the Preserve also sounds great - although hard work. Enjoy your time in California. Lots of luv Mum/Daphne xxx |
| 28th March 2009 Nicola | ;0) - From: Everyone's a winner baby! Here here maureen, too much info about the goings on in the loo! Sounds so cool and im so jealous you got to see a whale - dame it lol enjoy the rest of your trip guys, it was great to share some of it with you both, thanks for having me ;0) Nic xx |
| 27th March 2009 maureen hazelton | News about loos! - From: Everyone's a winner baby! Another great blog from you M (although perhaps a bit too much info about toilets!). I'm just glad I don't know half the things that happen when you're driving in bad weather. The descriptions of Vegas are something else and you all obviously had a great time there. Take care! Love Mum (Maureen) |
| 25th March 2009 Ukwanni | Your name for the Cathedral is in need of... - From: The Big Easy Hello and good day, I just wanted to share one correction with you regard's your pict'x of the "San Antonio Cathedral".... | 8th March 2009 Sarah | Happy Birthday!!! - From: Rockin' all over the world (well, the Wild West) Hi ya bro! Well another year older. Not long now till u reach the dreaded 30 ha ha!! Thank u for the phone call. It was a great surprise the other day. Well I hope u r enjoying your birthday so far. Have a drink for me (or several). Sorry that we cant be there to celebrate with u but we will have to have a big knees up wen u return. Have been showing Alex your picture today and telling him that its your birthday in which he responded with some big smiles. I hope you enjoy the rest of the day. Take care. So its only left for us to say: "Happy Birthday" Uncle Michael/Bro Lots of love Sarah, Stuart & your wonderful nephew Alex xxxxxxx |
| 8th March 2009 Steve and Sophie | Oi Spielberg - From: Rockin' all over the world (well, the Wild West) Stick to the directing! What was that Russian accent, or was it Scottish?! Just been watching the Applicant again. Ah those memories. It's two years since Rich and I did that and Comic Relief is on Friday. Not doing anything specifically for that except eating Burmese-style (although not for charity). Stunning scenery in the photos. I know what you mean about the adventurous one. My adventurous one does exactly the same thing (except not in anything cold). Speaking of which, her neck is better now. Mum's having a bit if a knees up next week. Will be thinking of you both wherever you are. And thinking along the birthday lines, happy birthday M! I've given up fry-ups and chocloate for Lent, and what with the reduction in alcohol and drinking of benecol, have lost some weight. Cycling back into work as well has also helped to shed a few pounds (especially when getting passed by those bendy buses - ome on Boris get rid of them asap!) Mandelson got hit with a custard tart the other day. And since you've gone, you both now own massive stakes in banks, as do we all. Hope you're having a great day for your b'day M. Are you placing a bet in Vegas. Hope your numbers come up! |
| 6th March 2009 Daphne Plant | John Wayne rides again - get off your horse and drink your milk! - From: Rockin' all over the world (well, the Wild West) Hi M and F what fantastic scenery you've both seen this time - breathtaking stuff. Glad to know that you have recovered from your illness M and are now feeling well again. The sight of that bald eagle must have made you jump for joy F - I know it would have done if it had been me. You've also seen the famous rocks that appear in so many westerns - did you keep looking to see if you were being chased by Indians as you crossed the plains? Well must sign off now but just want to wish you a very happy birthday for Sunday M - have a great time (don't forget to open your card). Lots of love to you both Mum/Daphne xxx |
| 6th March 2009 angie guida | - From: Rockin' all over the world (well, the Wild West) i love all your travlogue! i am so glad u r going to all these parks and sites. we have been to most of the places where u have traveled and u r getting such a wonderful view of our "west". you've been to more place than most americans have. it is different every season of the year. you miss the incredible, awesome colors of the aspens in the fall, but to see these parks with snow is really neat. and much less crowds. i have heard of sharing peoples' couches and i'm glad it worked out...another way to experience america. curious to see what u think of vegas. 2 days and i've had enough and don't need to go back. hoover dam is worth visiting and there is a park about 30 min out of town that is ok. really have enjoyed your travels thru you commentary...can't wait to see what you think of the pacific coast. enjoy....angie guida (susan's mom) |
| 1st March 2009 AndyM | Hi - From: Rockin' all over the world (well, the Wild West) Still going great guns!Love the video...question,why the appalling Swedish accent,Mike? lol.....only joking,I know it was South African....keep well guys! Andy |
| 21st February 2009 Sarah | Hi ya!! - From: Can't think of a good title! Hello you two! Glad to hear that you are both still having a fantastic time. F - tut tut on speeding (i know you both wanted to experience all what america offers ha ha!!) but i can think of better ways. Good job the police officer was nice. Well we are all ok although I have an ear infection and a cold. Stuart/Alex both have coughs and colds. Alex is continuing to grow and his character is really showing now. He can be quite annoying at times which may explain why he looks a bit like you M from when you were young. He is really you in disguise ha ha!! We have now started him onto the next stage of feeding which is baby rice and will soon be giving him little bits of pureed vegetables. By the time you get to meet him, he should be on solid food. Stuarts web designing business is now all official now, so thats great news. Well i'm going to shut up now so that someone else can get a word in. Hope to hear from you both soon. Take care. Miss ya loads. Sarah, Stuart & Alex xx |
| 18th February 2009 Steve and Sophie | Confused - From: Can't think of a good title! Am a bit confused - M - did you flatter your eyes at the young male officer of did F? I just have flashbacks to the Top Gear episode they did in the South of the US of A.... |
| 18th February 2009 Steve and Sophie | Snow - From: Can't think of a good title! Thank goodness you didn't get stranded in the snow. Not quite the cosy littl number as back here in London. All the buses ground to a halt - wouldn't have happened in Russia! We've started this restaurant club, where each month we go to a restaurant from a different country, with a different lettered country each month - it's B next month, so should be a bit further on by the time you get back. We tried Afghan the first month - lots of lamb and yoghurt based foods but was good. Some was very spicy though. Sounds as though you are keeping well - Sophie has had her neck hurt by the chiropractor she went to. It's recovering now but a slow process. Mum came round for lunch a cople of weeks ago. And we had vegetable lasagne - gorgeous it was. James and Viv have got engaged as well. Apparently Mandelson let rip into Starbucks today - sounds as though it could have been a bit like the Joe Kinnear rant after he joined Newcastle. Arsenal are still in the Cup (good win over Cardiff the other night). You probably know that though what with the internet and all. Unlike when I was in Russia, when the papers were delayed by a month. At least you wont come back thinking you've won the Premiership like I had (you're not having the best run there at the moment). Lost to the Welsh at the rugger - good game though. Roger and Colette are well happy though. In terms of sports - will you try to get to see anice hocey game? Anyway, enough of this gabbling. Have a safe time and look forward to the next blog. |
| 15th February 2009 jim guida | ouray hot springs - From: Can't think of a good title! hi guys; glad you're having fun. angie and i soaked in the hot springs at ouray and the water turned my beard green! fortunately the color came out with shampoo. good luck in utah. jim jim |
| 14th February 2009 Nicola | Hey you guys! - From: Can't think of a good title! OMG fi & M - only you guys would risk driving in blizzards lol good call to turn back, we do want you home and safe you know!! Sounds so great with all the snow and springs. We have had snow a few times, im hoping for a heatwave next week! lol Be safe and keep the blogs coming, ill soon see ya in Vegas woo hoo!! xxx |
| 3rd February 2009 Daphne Plant | Gators, crocs and all that Jazz! - From: The Big Easy Hi you two what a great time you're both having! The Everglades sounds so exciting with all the wonderful wildlife (gators, crocs and beautiful birds - enough to make Crocodile Dundee envious). NO was certainly an experience especially hearing all that live music in the hometown of Jazz! So glad you caught up with F's family in Texas, sounds as though it was great fun. Can't wait for next blog. Take care. Luv you lots. Mum/Daphne xx |
| 28th January 2009 maureenhazelton | Bet those RSPB boys are envious! - From: Gators, Gulf and Getting Cold (again)! Hi Fi and M - the latest blog - about time too! What a great one though, it was so interesting; it was almost exhausting to read how much you had done. Look forward to the next episode. Everything fine here. Mum |

| 26th January 2009 Steve and Sophe | Are you OK? - From: The Dawn of 2009 Hi both. We're beginning to wonder what's happened to you both?! Three weeks and no news. Hopefully the gators haven't got you. Looking forward to some news soon and where you've been. US must have been Obama mad recently. Went to go and see some dance on Saturday. Some of it was fanastic, even some of the hiphop stuff. There was some acrobatics that had to be seen to be believed. Met up with Nan a couple of weeks ago which was good as hadn't seen her for ages. Little Alex is growing up quickly. Hope you're not going to put any naked pictures of yourself onto the blog - the sight of Michael with his shirt off was enough to turn my stomach. Whatever will Mum say. But suppose it's better to do that sort of thing over there that on a freezing day in the north east. Hope all is well. |
| 4th January 2009 Nicola | ha ha - From: The Dawn of 2009 Happy New Year to you both! ha ha what a funny blogg you guys!! keep em coming and be careful in the everglades! |
| 4th January 2009 Josie | Sounds Amazing! - From: The Gaps Hi guys! Happy new year and I'm glad to read you had a fab xmas. | 1st January 2009 Sarah | Happy New Year - From: The Gaps Hi ya! We wanted to wish you both a happy new year. Sorry haven't sent message for a while but been busy with Alex. He is growing so quickly. He is now in the habit of crying for no reason constantly & enjoys attention. So by the time you return, I'm probably going to have now hair. He is doing well with sleeping at night now. It was strange without you both at xmas dinner round mums but we did a toast to you. (Unfortunately neither Steve nor Mum had the whoosh up the nose this year, so that was disappointing) Thought i'd let you know that Kerry has had her 2nd child on the 27th December. She had a little girl called Jenna who weighed 9lbs 6ozs. Mother and baby are well. Hoping to go round soon for cuddles. Glad you both are having a great time in Miami. Liking the videos and enjoyed the poem. Miss ya lots. Take care. Lots of love Sarah, Stuart & Alex. XX |

| 24th December 2008 Daphne | Merry Crimble! - From: Musical chair champion 2008! Hi you guys I'm loving the blogs ( I'm usually laughing so much that the first place I go is the loo! - no change there M ). We're all so pleased that you are both enjoying yourselves and are keeping well. All that fantastic scenery, different lifestyles and meeting some wonderful people along the way. Well who'd have thought it, you two going to a deep south Baptist church. I can see the halos shining from here (or is it just that the sun is shining over Basildon today). I've got to say it 'HALLELUJAH' (arms waving in the air). Have a great Christmas and New Year both of you. Love you both lots. Mum/Daphne and George xx |
| 23rd December 2008 Steve and Sophie | Merry Christmas - From: Musical chair champion 2008! Hi F and M. Glad to hear that you're having such an amazing time. Who would have thought that pecan nuts could be the basis of such fun. Sophie and I are off for Christmas now and by golly we're looking forward to a few days off. It's been non-stop here. Had a few work Christmas parties last week and met up with the old Durham crew on Saturday. The flat is getting in better shape now - I've even put the bookcase up and it's till standing! Looks like we'll be getting some more furniture soon. We've cleared up the spare room too so that people can sleep over. Cooked Sophie some roast pheasant last week to try something different. I don't think that we'll be cooking that here again, as Sophie can still smell it after a week (although with my nasal passages I can't smell a thing). Tamsin is off to Singapore to work, so we gave her a good send off last week. We're spending Christmas in Essex and the New Year in Dorset, so we'll get two Christmases! Have seen Alex a couple more times - he is growing really quickly. Been feeding him as well - have pretty much avoided too many sicking episodes but sure will get some over the festive period. That's Alex rather than me. Hope you have a fab Christmas down in Miami - no prospect of a white Christmas here. Looking forward to the next installment soon and cheers for the card. Cheers - S & S. |
| 20th December 2008 maureen hazelton | Praise the Lord! - From: Praise The Lord! Fi and Michael: hads a great laugh at the latest blog - they really get into their religion in the US! Just as well they're up and dancing a lot otherwise there would be a lot of numb bums after 2½ hours. Seriously it sounds a great place, not what you were expecting when you first planned it, lots of new experiences. Have a great trip south and look forwad to further blogs. Love Mum |
| 18th December 2008 Andrew Plant (Dad) | Hi - From: Praise The Lord! Hi Michael & Fiona. Well it is very interesting reading your blog. It looks as if you are enjoying yourselves. Well done for working on the farms, it should have been hard but you looked as if you were having a good time. Glad that you have got into the sunshine, you should now get a tan instead of frost bite. Well christmas is coming and you should have a very great time in the USA. Alex is getting bigger every day and is being well looked after by his mum and dad. We saw him last Saturday and he was sick over my shoulder but being a grandad i could hand him back, but he is great and a wonderful baby and i know that you will feel great when you both see him. Well we look forward to seeing you in Miami if we can. Keep us all up to date with what you are up to. Love Dad X X X |

M - wanted to say a big thank you for your letter which was a really nice surprise, although i did need a magnifying glass to read it ha ha!! Glad that you are having the opportunity to practice your uncle-type skills as you will have lots of catching up to do when you get home because Steve is way ahead on the favourite uncle stakes. Alex is growing fast as he is now around 11lbs and he is not waking up as much during most nights, so at least I'm able to get some sleep. Stuart is ok and working hard as usual, although hopefully things are looking up at work which will be great. I suppose i should stop rambling now and let you get back to having a good time. Looking forward to the next blog. Keep smiling! Love Sis (Alex sends a big kiss & Stuart says hi) |

| 2nd December 2008 Steve | OCD - From: Christmas comes early! Sophie says "like brother like brother!". (in ref. to M washing hands)! Saw little Alex again a couple of weeks ago and he's growing fast - a healthy appetite but with Stuart as a dad you'd expect nothing less. Meeting up with them again on Sunday to celebrate Sarah's birthday. Done most of the Christmas shopping already, which is a first for me (not Sophie who is ultra organised and always gets cards about 6 months before they are needed). We've put up our Christmas tree here - a wooden one with some lights on. Looks a lot better than it sounds. At least we won't have to hoover up any needles. Started my new job now - all going well so far. Long may it continue! We're having people round to dinner now that we've got the space. You'll have to come round for a salad when you're back;-) One of my old bosses was asking after you today M. Sounds like you're having a great time. Keep it up. Not long before you reach the warmer climes. At least the hurricanes will have passed by the time you get there. Look forward to the next blog and take care. |

I wasn't going to send you a message as my first thought was I couldn't possibly have anything interesting enough to say which compares with the amazing adventures you're having but Steve told me that was silly so here I am...Well, we have met our very cute new nephew who is amazingly quiet and content. I was feeling quite broody 'til Sarah was describing the birth, then I decided nannying is the much better option;-) Steve and I are enjoying newly married life and the peace and quiet after all the months of planning. Thanks for the post card, it's up on the wall for all to see! The blog is a great idea so keep it up. Safe and happy travelling. xxx |
