Hey everyone!! So this last weekend has been really awesome!!! On Friday night the whole group from school went out Salsa dancing because we have all been taking lessons and it was a blast!! We all got dressed up and had so much fun!! It was really awesome to be able to dance and use all things I have been learning:) Saturday we traveled to Uruapan, a neighboring town, and saw some really amazing places there. We went to the national park which reminded me so much of Oregon! It was full of amazing forest and beautiful fountains and waterfalls. We also went to Paricutin which is a volcano that erupted in 1943. It covered a whole town and all that is left that you can see are the towers of the church. We got ... read more

Guadalajara Hello all! Sorry it has been so long since I have posted! Things here have been so busy! Last time I wrote we had just returned from Guanajuato and that was an amazing trip! Last week we only had 3 days of school because of labor day on Thursday and so I took off to Guadalajara to visit Erika and Mateo. It was an awesome weekend! For the first couple of days Mateo hadn't arrived yet from the U.S. so I was with Erika and her family who dont speak any English at all. It was a fulfulling feeling to be able to not speak English for three days straight. I was so stoked about how much I have been learning and how to communicate! Once Mateo got there it was really nice and refreshing ... read more

Guanajuato Hello all!! I know it has been a little over a week since I have written and so much has happened!!! Last week was pretty chill with not to much going on...But this weekend we went to Guajajuato and it was so beautiful. It was like a storybook and I loved every bit of it. We left on Satuday morning and arrived in Guanajuato about 1030ish. We checked into our beautiful hacienda style hotel and then took off to tour the city. First we walked to Alhóndige de Granaditas, which is now a museum but used to be where the Spaniards were stationed during the Mexican Revolution. Guanajuato was the city where Padre Hidalgo rang the bell to alarm everyone the the revolution was beginning and they broke into the Alhóndige to overthrow the Spainards. ... read more

Hello all!!! So a few interesting things have happened this week so I just thought I would take the time to share:) In my Spanish class this week we took a little trip to the public university in Morelia, La Michuacana, just to see some of the differences between public and private schooling here in Mexico. We met up with one of my profs old students named Enrique and he showed us all around the campus and told us all about the school. It was really interesting because he was telling me that most students that go there still live at home and that they dont really provide dorms. They do have some student housing but the students who live there have to sign a contract that they will protest and rally against the government for ... read more

So this last weekend was pretty eventful!!! Friday night I went downtown to el centro with some girls from my group to take a historical tour of Morelia which was very interesting..We had this hilarious short and skinny Mexican guide who sounded like a commercial..but none the less it was very informative and interesting. There was one building that was a school and the man who founded it loved it so much and was so passionate about it that when he died he donated his heart to the school and it is still there on display...kinda gross..but interesting too! Saturday we got up really early and traveled to the neighboring cities (pueblos) if Tzintutzan, Patzcuaro, and Santa Clara. In Tzintutzan we got to explore some awesome ruins of an ancient Mexican culture, the Tarascans, and what ... read more
