Pete and Harry

This blog consists entirely of my nephew Danny's wedding to Charlie on 11th December and, as such, will be of great interest to anyone related to the Phelps family but of limited interest, perhaps, to anyone else. However, it's full of happy smiling people in lovely frocks and smart suits, so it's well worth a look if just for the feel-good factor. The Phelps Australian Dynasty, started by my brother Peter and his wife Evelyn, is: Stuart (son) & Becs and their children Scarlett (5) and Ruby (one). Peter (son) & Becs and their children James (11), Hannah (6), Nicholas (3) [View Full Entry]

And so to Sydney where we dropped into Bev and Andrew’s world and it’s fair to say we hit the ground running. They live in a brilliant location that is a short bus ride from the centre of Sydney and is within half a mile of over 50 eateries of almost every nationality. We had Greek, Italian, Japanese and Thai as well as a delicious BBQYO (barbecue your own) filet mignon and a fabulous home-cooked lamb BBQ (both BBQs expertly cooked by Andrew it has to be said). Oz operates a BYO (bring your own) wine policy and bottle shops spring [View Full Entry]

We’ve mostly been with friends and family since our last blog which is why it’s taken us a while to get round to keeping you updated - it’s so easy to chill and chat over a meal and a bottle of wine with them in the rest periods between touristy things. Our last blog was from Hokitika (Hoe-cat-icka) on the West coast. From there we drove east to Christchurch through Arthur’s Pass which is noted for its 'fabulous scenery'. In fact, the Trans Alpine Express is a tourist ‘must-do’ because of the 'fabulous scenery'. However, we can only imagine the [View Full Entry]

We're doing well - this is our second blog in two days. It's all very well dashing about NZ doing amazing things, but at some point one has to organise domestic stuff and, as Harry says, "domestic stuff is too hard for men". The motel at Wanaka was blessed with a laundry and, as luck would have it, it was a gloriously sunny day so we did our 4th big wash of the trip (just to rassure you that we're keeping ourselves tidy). Whilst watching me hanging out the washing, Harry saw a Tiger Moth flying overhead towards the local airport [View Full Entry]

Queenstown Oceania
Our last blog was from a wet, windy and cold Queenstown - not good in a place where all the action happens outdoors. However, NZ is desperate for some rain, so we took it on the chin, bought a couple of bottles of wine and chilled. The weather in Queenstown is alpine, so cloud+wind=very cold, sun+no wind=very hot. Fortunately for us our second day was sunny so we went bungy jumping. In the bungy photo you will see a tiny speck bottom centre. That isn't either of us! We then went for a wander around the town and along the waterfront/harbour [View Full Entry]

Cold beer and curry. Yum.

Immediately after arriving in Christchurch we picked up our Ford Focus hire car and hit the road. Our stop-overs have been as follows: South to Anderson where a numpty opened the door of the B&B so we politely made our excuses and drove to Timaru where we stayed in a nice motel with Mary and Terry (Mirry and Tirry in NZ-speak). Then on to Dunedin where we stayed at Lyndon and Dale's B&B (Lyndale). We didn't get to meet Dale, but Lyndon was FABulous. The B&B is a listed building and has loads of original features, set off with stylish decor [View Full Entry]

(We're actually in NZ now - we arrived today, but there's nothing to tell you about it yet, so here's a bit more about Fiji and hopefully some photos will load on as well as a couple of short videos). As we said on our last blog, the resort was pretty remote, and given that it's a largish island and the roads are rubbish we decided against hiring a car which was a pity because we had wanted to explore Fiji and not just have a beach holiday. However, we went on a trip to a local village - the whole [View Full Entry]
