Kansas City, Kan, July 26, 2008 - What do you get when 2 HOG groups get together? Well, a parade, fellowship and of course food. That is exactly what happened when the Joplin HOG Chapter from Joplin MO came to Olathe KS to visit us in the Central Midwest HOG Chapter. Its been awhile since I wrote in the blog, I am going to try and remedy that. I have been riding alot, so more should be posted pretty quick. The XL-List had thier annual rally here in KC. Actually it was at Basswood Resort just north of KC. I ran out there on Friday to say Hi and put some faces to the names I see on the list. 6-8 JUNE 08 Concordia KS American Legion Leadership College & Presidential Race I currently work for the American Legion in Overland Park and I am an officer in 2 groups there. I am the Historian for the American Legion Riders and the 1st Vice President for the American Legion Auxiliary. I ran across these pictures on my computer and just couldn't hold them back any longer. These were taken on a trip to North Carolina for the XL List East Coast Rally (May 2008). The rally is an informal affair. There are no rally fees, no registration, no t-shirts just show up if you want and ride. I have gone for the last 2 years and both years on Saturday the group heads to the Shatley Inn (www.shatleysprings.com) for lunch and then on the Striped Snake (www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com) for some fun riding. For the second year in a row I went to the XL-List East Coast Sportster Rally ECR . This year it was expanded from the Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning activities to include the full day Friday. Unlike most other rallies it is very informal, there is no registration, no t-shirts, no vendors, just a bunch of sportsters coming from all over the east coast to ride together. Toto, I See Twisties! The Poppy Poker Ride was a joint project of the women of the American Legion Auxiliary and the bikers of the American Legion Riders, both of the Dwight Cowles American Legion Post 370 in Overland Park, KS. I was the cooordinator as I was a member of both groups. It started as a suggestion that the Riders group help the Auxiliary with their annual poppy distribution. So the weather is beautiful, in the high 60’s heading for the low 70’s (Fahrenheit). I just got the new floorboards installed () and I am itching to get out on the road and try them out. The night before I had plotted some of the points I thought would count toward the Presidential Race challenge that my HOG group is having. The Presidential Race is open to all our members. I learned through the American Legion Riders group about the project of Extreme Makeover Home Edition they were going to be building a house for a wounded Marine in my area. Daniel Gilyeat a single parent with 4 children had lost a leg in Iraq and was in need of a better house. 8 NOV 2007 A DAY OF WORK Volunteers signed up actually a few blocks away and shuttle buses took you to within a block of the work site. Our American Legion Riders from Post 370 in Overland Park got together to go see the Patriot Chopper. The Patriot Bike is a National Guard theme chopper built by OCC (Orange County Choppers). It was built on the show American Chopper. We met at 11:30am on Saturday morning. I had to hurry, as I needed to put in a couple hours that morning at work, I work for that American Legion Post. 1 Sept 2007 Adams Tennessee After spending a week and half on tour of TN and NC our group of 5 bikes and 5 riders were headed home, this is the second day of our three day trip home. We are all on Harleys and there is everything from my Sportster to Jerry’s Road King in the group. Our day started at Murphy NC, real early in the morning.
