| 14th October 2009 Harley Mom | Getting The Wall in your community - From: 09 The Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall - Opening Ceremonies You probably need to google it for the correct info but from what I understand you pay for it to come. I'm sure they schedule you in according to their route thought. Garnett paid for it by using the hotel tourist taxes that had accumulated over the years. I think too that this is just the first expense. It looked like they had quite an investment in the landscaping since it requires such a long totally flat area to be errected. They put it up in Veterans Park which is not flat anywhere. |
| 13th October 2009 SUZY BURCHAM | obtaining the memorial wall - From: 09 The Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall - Opening Ceremonies HOW DOES A CITY OR COMMUNITY GO ABOUT OBTAINING THE MEMORIAL IN ONES CITY? WE JUST MISSED IT IN BRYSON CITY, NC. WHAT AN HONOR TO HAVE IT VISIT YOUR CITY. |
| 12th October 2009 Harley Mom | Trip Info - From: 09 WCT Day 12 - The Loneliest Hwy (NV Hwy 50) I had heard about the Loneliest Hwy on the XL-List. Ride reports are really a big part of that list, to me anyway. I knew about the passport book because I had requested an info packet from NV tourism a couple months ago. It came with some motorcycle specific info, really a great packet for any biker headed that way. That is how I knew Hwy 93 was going to be such a great scenic ride too. It came with one of those passport booksfor Hwy 50 but I didn't take it with me because I thought I would returning along the old Route 66. But when Effie broke I ended up in Jackson. |
| 12th October 2009 Shadow Man | Neat - From: 09 WCT Day 12 - The Loneliest Hwy (NV Hwy 50) How do you find out about all these neat rides and stamps! I wish I could get as much time to ride as you do! Alec |
| 10th October 2009 Harley Mom | I've Been Everywhere Tour - From: 06 ARKANSAS WEEKEND RUN I got 67 of the 91 (I think) locations. That was top for our group. Some of the locations are not available in the US. It was a local HOG Group challenge. We all got t-shirts with all the locations listed on the back. I think Terry got the idea from the internet. When I googled IBE I found the original game site, although it had not been updated for a couple years even back then. |
| 10th October 2009 Shadow Man | IBE - From: 06 ARKANSAS WEEKEND RUN How did you make out on the IBE tour .... is this another HOG ride or is it a cert from some other group? Alec |

| 1st October 2009 Buck Hiltebeitel | Nice story - From: 09 Dad, Back In The Saddle Again My daughter had a PP for a while. Vaquero had been used as a "teaser" and otherwise abused, and no one at the barn could ride him. My daughter, Sami, started loving on him while she was helping the trainer. Next thing you know, she had permission to take him out for walks, then rides. It broke her heart when the owner moved away and took Vaquero. M/C content - Sami is now riding a V-Star 650 while in college, and begging for my Sporty since we just bought a Heritage Softail Classic. I have enjoyed your posts on the Sportster boards, Cindy. Buck Hiltebeitel '04 XL883 "Piglet" '08 FLSTC "Jett" (bought during the Texas State HOG Rally, with Joan Jett as the concert headliner, and it's black!) |
| 15th September 2009 Harley Mom | Are we going to be getting a new HD? - From: 09 What A Fun Weekend. Well the HD I referred to in the blog is Home Depot (HD). I am just now getting Effie tweaked to fit. I would hate to start over. I thought she was pretty comfortable until the Not Superman Rally, I learned alot over that 54hours. One of them was how uncomfortable she is. (Don't tell Effie but I am kind of looking for a cheap low mileage ST1100. Shhhh. ) |
| 14th September 2009 Shadow Man | New bike? - From: 09 What A Fun Weekend. Are we going to be getting a new HD? |
| 5th September 2009 Shadow Man | Cape Fear - From: 07 Cape Fear 1000 Jim Bain is trying to get me to run in it in 2010. I might do it. Alec |
| 3rd September 2009 Darrin Hicks | Love AR - From: Arkansas Day Ride with Marcia Hi Cindy! I too, LOVE riding in AR.. ever since the Spank Rally. I even purposely planned one of the legs of my NSR run back through AR. I agree, I feel that more Harley riders should have confidence in the current model's reliability and long-distance suitability to toss their hats into the IBR. I was sorry to hear about Bob L's exit from the rally, but at least it was a forest critter and not him or his Harley that caused his DNF. He was on a good ride up until then. For what it's worth, I'm planning on tossing my hat into the ring for the 2011 event on the same FLHT I had at the NSR (crash damaged mostly fixed and it's running as strong as ever)... Keep your fingers crossed ;) |
| 2nd September 2009 Harley Mom | Thanks! - From: 2006 RIDING YEAR SUMMARY Thanks Alec, this is one of my favorites. I have another old letter I wrote that ended up in our local HOG newsletter. I am going to see if I can find it. I think it was one of the first motorcycle stories of mine that was published. |
| 2nd September 2009 Shadow Man | Overloaded - From: 09 Natchez Trace Day 3 & 4 I dont see how you carry so much on your bike. You be safe out there! |
| 2nd September 2009 Shadow Man | Another Great Read - From: 2006 RIDING YEAR SUMMARY I found another diamond in your back log of blogs. Thanks Alec |

| 31st August 2009 Mark Herman | How Nice! - From: 09 Dad, Back In The Saddle Again Thanks for sharing. Riding horses has been recognized as great therapy. Also, I'm sure Dad appreciates his time with you.....and you with him is good for you too! |

| 16th August 2009 Liz | Floorboards - From: 08 Installing Floorboards on my 05 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie. Thanks for sharing your experiment in floorboarding a Sportster. I've been dying to do this, and I'll benefit greatly from your guidance. Happy trails! |
| 22nd July 2009 Alec sharp | FUN - From: 09JT Day 6 Malcolm X, Gerald Ford and the Bohemian Cafe Sounds like you had a great trip. Thanks for the read! |
| 18th July 2009 Harley Mom | - From: 09 Not Superman Rally I see your point Jim. Great Rally, thanks so much for offering it! I had a hoot. And its always great to get a chance to talk with riders of that caliber. |
| 17th July 2009 Jim Puckett | self scoring is anti-climatic - From: 09 Not Superman Rally "Self scoring is okay, but I miss sitting across the table from the unforgiving scorer, proving you have all your Ps & Qs right, getting to debrief on the ride. That was the end of the ride, when I could made his numbers match my numbers, self scoring is well anti-climatic." Cindy, maybe the biggest problem holding a competitive LD rally in the center of the United States is the low density of LD riders with any interest in Iron Butt Rally type competition. The consequences of that is if we had 20 staff like the Cape Fear 1000, we would have not needed to spend the 600 manhours and $5,000 that it costs to develop and refine the NSR self-scoring system. This year's NSR was plagued with wi-fi and narrow bandwidth problems at the Comfort Suites in Jackson, MO, which lengthened the self-scoring process and prevented us for having any time to sit down with the riders; especially the riders who were denied one or more bonuses. Next year we are moving back to the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau where there are no Internet problems; just $$$ issues. |
| 16th July 2009 Alec Sharp | Great read - From: 09 Not Superman Rally Sounds like you had fun. I plan on doing a rally soon ... I think .... just not sure the Shadow 750 and I are up to it. I have two SS1000 and a BB1500 under my belt so far. Glad to see another cruiser out there! Ride Safe, Alec IBA, AMA |
| 23rd June 2009 Angelia Williams | Thank you - From: 09 Patriot Guard Matt Kelley I am the sister (technicly speaking sister-in-law) to Matt Kelley.. I wanted to thank you for this.. it's been nearly 5 months now and still feels like my sister called me yesterday to tell me he was never coming home...It still hasn't really hit me.. I just wanted you to know I appreciate your post.. I miss him, always will. |
| 15th May 2009 Neil In Asheville | The Natchez Trace - From: 09 Natchez Trace Day 3 & 4 I really enjoyed your report on your Natchez trip. I would like to do same this summer. I often take a day trip to New Orleans, and thought coming home on the trace sounds like a possibility. Thanks for the great info. I'll tell you how it works out. |
| 28th April 2009 mark | Thanks! - From: 09 Vicksburg National Military Park Hi Cindy, Thanks for posting this. I was on my way to ride the Trace last September when something came up and I had to scrap the trip. I am still planning on going, sometime in the fall I will try again. Your travel blog will surely help me in deciding what I want to see and what I may skip. I did get to do a "East Texas Ride" in October, but I think the Trace trip would have been more interesting. |
| 27th April 2009 Linda Mooney | Natchez Trace - From: 09 Natchez Trace Day 3 & 4 Great article and pics, Harley Mom! I briefly rode the Trace in '05 and your article makes me want to go back and ride end to end. I also think the accessories you've installed on 'Effie' are cool- I'd like to hear your comments on the J&M CB setup after you experienced it some more. |
| 21st March 2009 Harley Mom | Range - From: 09 Using RAM mounts on my 2005 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie Forgot to respond about my range. You are right, I get about 50 MPG. That puts me at almost 200 miles before I hit reserve. I have two 4.5 gal tanks the blue/silver and the silver. I am trying to figure out how to mount the blue/silver on the back and use it as an auxilliary tank for endurance rallies. Gas stops kill your time in those. |
| 21st March 2009 Harley Mom | RE: Wowzaa! - From: 09 Using RAM mounts on my 2005 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie It just seemed like I would make one little change then the idea that I could do 'this' too, then pretty soon I am riding a bike that looks like a wasp. The little gauges that are velcroed on my speedo and tach are glow in the dark thermometer and analog clock from www.formotionproducts.com. The first thermometer leaked the oil out, a local dealer replaced it. After a couple years the clock battery went dead. I know use the 5 function digital display located over the speedo and tach for time and temp. |
| 20th March 2009 Colby | Wowzaa! - From: 09 Using RAM mounts on my 2005 883 Harley Davidson Sportster, Effie At first I was like "WTF, why do that to a motorcycle!" However after valid reviews and comments from others, I can see why you added all the pleasure gear to your motorcycle. The 883 with a 4.5 gallon tank can probably keep up with some of the longer hauler touring bikes because of the 883's better gas usage. My question to you is what are the yellow, glow in the dark looking gauges on your gauges? |
| 16th February 2009 Dianne Spicer | Thank you Matt Kelley and the wonderful Patriot Guard - From: 09 Patriot Guard Matt Kelley I was born and raised in cameron misssouri. Last Saturday on Feb. 7, would have been my mother's 73th birthday. Instead of going to the cemetary, I became a part of something these eyes will never forget. To be a part of our community coming together, to honor our fallen hero, is something I will never forget. My sister in law, daughter, and grandson attended this memorable event. We did not no Matt Kelley personally, but by the time the weekend was over, I believe he became a part of every member of our town's family. I proudly waved my American flag, while standing across the street from the Methodist Church. My grandson,Parker sat in his stroller, and waved his little flag, as if he also knew why we were there. To see the Patriot Guard, honoring our fallen hero, with flags, protecting his family from those that don't realize that if it weren't for Matt, they would not be able to exercise their freedom of speech, nor freedom of religion. Thank you Patriot Guard and thank you MATT KELLEY! |
| 13th February 2009 Lizard | Thank You - From: 09 Patriot Guard Matt Kelley Harley Mom/Techie/US Marine, Thank you for giving your beautiful observations of the days' events. I loved your choice of pictures to pull this all together. You have done justice to this last journey our hero Matthew has taken and I thank you! |

| 18th September 2008 Dave Barr | You're amazing - From: 08 Not Superman Rally Just sitting here reading your blog and all I can say is wow! A true inspiration for us all. Keep it up! |
| 6th July 2008 BJ | - From: 08 Local Tour for Screw Loose Dan Wow, the way you described all the sites and historical places, really makes me want to see them as well. I love history and learning who's who and where its at in each of the states I have lived in. I'm in Arkansas now, but as a child lived in Mo. for awhile. What a great wealth of history there and in Kansas. Hopefully one day, I can view the sites too. Happy to read what a fun time everyone had. Love the photos posted, the one of Sam was funny and like others I have seen of travelers catching a few zzz's on their bikes. Most men seem like they can sleep anywhere. Remarkable story about the gravesite of David Rice Atchison! I never fail to learn something new when I read your blogs. That would be a great question for The Jeopardy Game! Lots of local stories here too of the James brothers and their hideouts in hollows and caves in these parts. Oh but if only the land around us could talk and tell more stories. Thanks Cindy for another mind and thought stirring blog. Ride safe and happy bloggin'. |
| 6th July 2008 BJ | - From: 08 American Legion POPPY POKER RIDE What a fun dedicated group of people you all are. I enjoyed the story and reading about how much behind the scenes work goes on to make a run and function like this successful. Thank God for individuals who have time to sponsor The annual Poppy Drives. I realize how much funds are needed by the organization for all that they do and provide to veterans. Years ago, my late husband spent time in several VA hospitals, one being Walter Reed and another in New Orleans. I remember all the things they provided for him and so many other patients. So to realize just how many people it takes all over the country to provide such things is massive dedication. I applaud all that your group does. Thanks so much for the updates here. (A loyal follower of good people). |
