Day 5 & 6 - Trishuli River Rafting For the next two days we will be paddling down the Trishuli River towards Pokhara, located north-west of Kathmandu. A hearty breakfast and early start today to reach our distination by noon where we exchange our 4WD and driver for a blue rubber raft, paddle and helmet. Travelling on the main road leading to Pokhara is a mixture of narrow sealed tar/ cement, fine powdery dusty cutaways, huge potholes that practically swallow up the vehicle entirely. There are many bike, buses, trucks and tourist vans/cars all trying to leap frog each other to reach their distination early, it is not uncommon to come across many breakdowns, as the road winds down into the valley. Once arriving at the ECO White Water Rafting location it is important to wear ... read more

Day 4 - Bhaktapur, Patan, Pashupati Nath Temple and Boudha Nath Stupa Starting later than usual today another beautiful day awaits as we visit some of the out laying tourist attractions. We have orgainised a private car to transport us today, as the local buses are very slow and over crowded and you offen find your self sharing your seat with 3 others or end up standing for many kms. Its quit an experience just travelling on the roads, and even more amazing the little white Suzuki taxii, motorbikes, people, vendors carts and big tourist buses all trying to navigate the narrow streets at the same time, some with sealed tar roads, while others you practically need a 4WD with gravel, rocks and mud hills. Our first stop for this morning takes us to Bhaktapur. Located ... read more

Days 3 - We wake to a beautiful morning and enjoy a wonderful breakfast with coffee/ tea on the rooftop of our hotel, the skyline is a little polluted in the distance and you can just see a small glimps of the mountains. Our mode of transport today is by foot and local taxi as we start visiting some of Kathmundu World Heritage Sites. Durbar Square - is one of the important historic and tourist destinations in Nepal. This massive complex is home to palaces, temples and courtyards. The original center of Kathmandu is often named as Basantapur, Hanuman Dhoka or Durbar Square all denoting the same location. The square has various historical royal and governmental institutions mixed with temples of different styles and ages both Hindu and Buddhist. Most of them are built in the ... read more

Day 2 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Kathmandu, Nepal Arriving 2pm at Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport a little worse for wear. Transport has been arranged to meet at the airport and take to Hotel Happy Home, part of the friendly service offered for free when staying with them (http://www.hotelhappyhomenepal.com/). This will be our home for the next three (3) nights. Kathmandu is the starting point of our Nepali Adventure. Settling in to our rooms we quickly decide to wonder the near by streets of Thamel, the temperture is slowly dropping from a pleasant 24c to a cool 10c, we are very supprised how clean the streets are and no over crowding of tourists. While in search of a working ATM which was a little bit of a challenge, (out of order, not accepting foriegn cards, or ... read more

Day 1 - Leaving late afternoon we head to Sydney international Airport - Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Our flight is scheduled to arrive in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur 3:15 am, for this leg of the trip we have opted for no added extras on the AirAsia flight. It is hoped that we will get to sleep until landing. As I have not traveled with this airlines before, I will be most interested in the quality of service offered. Just booking with AirAsia was an experience, as all the bookings and payment are done online, then later having to confirm your choice of seating and meals during the flight had some little unexpected hurdles that had me in a sweat. AirAsia offer cheap flights, but then you are charged for every little extra or change to the basic no-frills ... read more

The day has started out cool, overcast and rainy. Oh dear where has all the sunshine gone? Boarding a bus for a 5 hr, 200 kms journey. This will be our last chance to sight see another small pocket of Vietnam. When your looking for beaches Mui Ne will be the one most travelers will mention. Best known for the red sand dunes, Fairy Stream, a few historic temples and fresh seafood. The weather has deteriorated and it is bucketing down, as we get closer the bus starts dropping people off at their hotels all along the coast, this bus will then continue onto Nha Trang. Finally our stop, checking in is once again a simple process, we have a great little bungalow right next to the pool, how great is that? The beach is just ... read more

Heading south the landscape has change to flat dried rice field, less population and cattle (Brahmans) are used as a means of transporting goods Over the past 5 weeks we have seen the humble scooter and small 110cc motorbike carry the most incredible assortment of things. eg another motorbike, piled high and wide with chickens, bags of bottles, bananas, cow, pigs and so much more. Our mini bus has had to make a detour to collect some other travelers who's bus has broken down, we are now running a bit behind time, what was to be 4 hrs has taken 5hrs. On arrival at the Prek Chak - Cua Khau Quoc international border between Cambodia and Vietnam, we are asked to walk through no man's land from one country to another, on the way a sign ... read more

It's a bit of a bus shuffle this morning, two changes within a small distance until we reach the bus station. Expected ETA is 4pm, so far the road has been comfortable traveling. Not much has changed in scenery, still dry rice fields and small one room houses on very long polls. The bus hits it's brakes and we, very narrowly miss colliding with a rider on a scooter, it appears he just turned out in front of the bus, he goes flying across the road side ways trying to keep control of his bike, dust everywhere, looking back through the window I can see he is OK and back on his feet. Thank goodness! Our bus driver is a horn tooting demon speeding along. Phenom Phenn is a mix of new and old style buildings. ... read more
