Lovin' the life in Luxor! Africa » Egypt » Upper Egypt » Luxor
Hi everyone, Well, moving right along with the blogs........thank the Lord for very high speed internet! Gotta love it! So you see that we left Nairobi, and flew to Luxor, Egypt (I'm learning a lot about geography also; my nephews, Ben and Evan, would be very proud of me!!!!!!) Arrival in Luxor was very smooth and handled very efficiently. Quite the contrast, as we drive down the streets of Luxor, compared to the very, very bumpy rides on the roads (and I use that word loosely) of the Samburu Game Reserve! I think I shook off at least 5 lbs there, [View Full Entry]

We were just returning to the Lodge from our game drive, and I was able to capture this!
And I'm back! There are just too many wonderful pictures and stories that we want to share with you, and one blog entry just doesn't do it! As much as it can be over-whelming to stay up to date sending these to you, I know it is also over-whelming for you to keep current with us! But isn't it just a ton of fun?????!!!!!!! We are having the time of our lives and technology enables us to share it with you! Ok, so back to Africa. On the last evening, we had a special "Bush Dinner'. It was on the grounds [View Full Entry]

2 different types of zebras

Hi everyone, Well, it's Wednesday morning and we are in Prague. Arrived last night, after an adventure in Cairo. More on that later. I have a few blogs to do, today and tomorrow, and will get caught up since we have free time. Internet connection in Luxor was less than desirable if/when we even had it! But first, I want to share with you a "special edition" blog. This is courtesy of Irene and Klaus Buechner. They took a helicopter tour of Dubai and graciously shared the pictures with me. In turn, we would like to share them with you. As [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone, Well, we've had a very full day here in Luxor, Egypt! And it was a HOT and sunny one too! But more on that later. For now, I know there are many of the young blog fans who have been waiting to see the animals of Africa. What an amazing time we had! The Samburu area is much different than that of the Masi Mara, where we were last year. The landscape is much different, and therefore so were the animals that we saw. Of course, there were the common ones: lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras (my favorite!) and so [View Full Entry]

Sarova Shaba Game Reserve in Kenya
Greetings everyone! We arrived in Luxor, Egypt yesterday, late afternoon. Quite a difference from the Lodge in Kenya!!!!!!! (which was a new place this year, and unlike the place we stayed in last year) Special birthday greetings go out to my precious little grandson, Kalen!!!!!! So sorry I missed the exact day, but you certainly were on my mind, little guy!!!!!! Love you LOTS! So, we were up and at 'em early in Dubai, heading for the airport, all keen and ready to head into Africa. Everything went smoothly, hopped on the plane........got our FANTASTIC and WARM welcome by the crew, [View Full Entry]

Waiting for clearance to leave Dubai.....
What else is there to do while we wait???????
How cute are they?

Hi everyone! Oh, what a night! I left off yesterday telling you that we were heading out to the desert for the evening. A convoy of 21 white Toyota SUVs took us all out to the BBQ site. Our driver gave us "a bit of a ride" when we hit the sand dunes. I'm sure that Seth and Susan, who were driving along with me, would have preferred to have a little more excitement; Don Wharin and I preferred a bit of a calmer ride. It was a happy compromise and enjoyable for all! We pulled into the BBQ site and [View Full Entry]

Burj Al Arab Hotel
The only 7* hotel in the world!
Quote for the day: Every time we remember to say "thank you," we experience nothing less than heaven on earth." --Sarah Ban Breathnach Oh what a day! We toured the city of Dubai, visited the Dubai Museum, got pictures of the Jumeirah Mosque and, of course, the famous 5* hotel - Burj Al Arab hotel. Construction continues at a feverish pace in Dubai. As was the case last year, 75% of the largest cranes in the world are here in Dubai! It's crazy! Cost of living is soaring; millions of people are moving here; business is coming in droves. Haliburton is [View Full Entry]

Greetings from sunny, HOT, gorgeous, "very-different-than-India", Dubai!!!!!!! (and birthday greetings to my friend and editor, Linda Fletcher, in London!) We left our hotel yesterday morning in good time. Everyone was quite ok with leaving India, after having seen the Taj Mahal and having experienced the traffic, the smog, the crowds of people, the animals everywhere, etc. etc. Time to head out to Dubai........where we were scheduled to have "free" time for the afternoon and have some fun. Not to be! All went well at the airport, we boarded the plane, and then........we sat! For al [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone! It is now 8:30 p.m. in Agra, India. We've had a very full day and I am so happy to have my fellow tour leaders creating the blog with me tonight. Since I have high-speed, wireless in my room, we no longer have to resort to sitting in a bar, or in the business center, ha ha! Now, we write in comfort...........enjoying a glass of wine and comaraderie. (the wine did not come from the hotel) It's been an eye-opener for most people as we drive around Agra. Having been here last year, it wasn't such a culture shock [View Full Entry]

And such a beautiful evening it was! I could see the hotel staff getting things ready by mid-afternoon. The pool section was closed off and things started coming together. It was a perfect evening for a magical event. Carroll, Brenda, Fay and I had been shopping earlier in the day. We found the perfect outfit for the evening and, thanks again to Brenda's amazing bargaining talents, we each bought a beautiful blouse very representative of Cambodia, and for only "five dolla". What a deal! For this tour, we are split into 3 groups: blue, green and red. Our outfits represent our [View Full Entry]
