Good morning everyone! We are up and at 'em and heading out for breakfast shortly. I thought I would get a head start on the notes for today. We fly to Siem Riep and I am really looking forward to that. For 3 years, every week, I had my manicures and pedicures done by a delightful Cambodian couple in St. Albert (Alberta). They taught me a lot about Siem Riep before I left Alberta (to move to Ontario). They will be in my thoughts for the next few days as we explore this fascinating place. I am also adding 2 additional pictures from Viet Nam, that were requested by others to be posted on the blog. So, it's Sunday morning for us right now. We will be staying at the Angkor Century hotel and have the ... read more

Good morning (from) VietNam!!! We had to say that, although Robin Williams is nowhere in sight! Another day, another adventure. Started with breakfast at the hotel (see pictures) and then on the bus........and what a day it has been. Hot and humid! (and many of you know how much I just love that........) BUT, I'm not complaining (much) because I know you are all sitting there feeling sorry for me, right? Lots to see from the bus along the way (check out the picture of the little piggies going to market).......interesting landscape from rice fields to farm yards to the Vietnamese version of "strip malls" (food vendors, scooter repair shops everywhere, etc.). First of all, such a major contrast from city to country. Our bus ride was 2 hours to the Mekong Delta river and we ... read more

Hi everyone, Well, we've arrived in Viet Nam. Stop #4 (already!) on this world tour. Time flies when you're having fun!!!! Quote for the day: "Too much of a good thing is.........well........wonderful!" And that's how we are all feeling. Wonderful! The pictures you will see today are a bit different, because Viet Nam is unlike anything I've ever seen! We left Hong Kong by way of a private terminal (again); very nice! They had cappucino, coffee, tea, chocolates, etc. waiting for us as Customs checked our paperwork. Lovely touch! We left Hong Kong around the noon hour, and as we approached Viet Nam, turned our watches back an hour again. We flew over the South China sea and some of the islands below were quite beautiful. It was the birthday of one of our fabulous crew ... read more

Hi everyone! First off, Happy Birthday to you Diane Francisco!!!!! Don't know when I will be back on the blog, so I didn't want to miss that! We had an incredible evening last night! Arrived in Hong Kong, had a bit of quiet time in our room and then it was off for dinner. We left the hotel and went to the Peak Tram Station for an exciting funicular railway ascent to the top of Victoria Peak. Amazing! Breath-taking! Once off the tram, we headed into the Cafe Deco for cocktails and dinner. Wow! A sweeping spiral staircase impressively separates the restaurant's two levels. The seamless glass wall extends the entire length of the restaurant to reveal a view which can be seen from every aspect within. The outside walkway provides an excellent spot for picture ... read more

Hi everyone, This blog has been fanned out to so many people now that I'm not sure how many of you are out there! Welcome to Anne's friends! And the crew of Icelandic Air now has the blog address also, so they can follow our adventures while they are "out there" doing their own thing between flights. Before we left the hotel, I went out on to the grounds and took a picture of the bamboo trees. I thought you may be interested in seeing what they look like (I certainly was!). Inside the hotel, I also took 2 pictures of the Japanese breakfast as it was available at the buffet this morning. Soup and salad appear to be a popular choice, and probably something we Canadians should consider doing more often! We arrived in Hong ... read more

Hi everyone, (Barb, my room-mate Leona and I are still in awe at the fact that you used to babysit her children! What a small world indeed! The things I learn about my friends when I travel around the world!!!!) Wow. What an evening we had! We went to a famous restaurant for Shabu-Shabu. (It's essentially a fondue dinner concept, only instead of using oil to deep fry everything, you use a broth.) Dinner was Miso Soup, rice, Japanese pickles, and various items for the Shabu: beef, veggies, tofu, etc. Yum. Yum. Yum! You will see from the pictures that we had a ball! Then came the entertainment. Geisha girls entertained, and helped us with dinner as well. Then there was the Drum performance. Awesome. All of it! We had an opportunity to pose for pictures ... read more

Hi everyone! Another glorious day in Japan! Our typical day begins at about 8 a.m. with breakfast (western or Japanese; whatever your choice), and then we head out on a variety of tours (including a lunch stop). We return to the hotel mid-afternoon (or earlier) and have that time to ourselves until dinner at about 6. My room-mate often has a nap or just rests, and I take the opportunity to download my pictures, sort/file them and do my journal. I realized today that if I didn't do this (a little bit) each day, I don't know if I would actually do a very good job at this by the end of the trip. It would be overwhelming and very time-consuming, and I probably wouldn't remember everything! Last night, we had a 7-course dinner at the ... read more

Hi everyone, My goodness but your notes are fun to read!!! Keep 'em coming! Leona (my room mate) is enjoying them as much as I am!!! We had a blast today, touring Kyoto. So many new experiences. So much to see and learn. We were at temples and pavilions and the textile factory today. Saw a kimono fashion show. Beautiful!!!! Had an excellent lunch, even though much of it was strange and new.....but very tasty!!! Found my way into the kitchen (was thinking of you, Louise!!!!). Met up with some school girls at the Golden Pavilion and got a fun picture with them. And......did a one-hour workout in the pool too! Just getting ready for dinner now, which is in the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel. What fun. I'm a lucky, lucky gal!!! ... read more

Today is a long travel day as we head to Kyoto, Japan, with a fuel stop in Russia along the way. Blaine was kind enough to take me to Superstore in Whitehorse yesterday so I could stock up on walnuts, cranberries, (and a bit of chocolate) so I could have my snacks on the flight. The crew is very generous with the big bottles of water (and the booze, I might add!). I’m focusing on the water intake so that I don’t get dehydrated  It’s been fun getting to know some of the people on this flight. Even though we are separated into groups (Blue, Green and Red), there are plenty of opportunities to spend time with everyone else. The flight is comfortable, with lots of space for everyone to spread out. I enjoy being ... read more

Good morning to all of you! Thank you for your comments and messages. I love hearing from you! So.......let me just say this.......THIS is THE way to travel, my friends! Wow! When we left the airport hotel yesterday morning in Toronto, I expected the shuttle to be taking us to one of the Terminals at the Toronto airport.......and then I was planning on heading to Starbucks, so I could begin my journey with a Chai latte (my favorite!). No........the shuttle made an unexpected turn, and we headed to a separate terminal where all the private planes/jets are parked. Wow. We were taken into a special terminal that was just for our group and our private plane was waiting on the tarmac. No lineups, no security, no hassles. Bags were loaded and we were on our way, ... read more
