Obamania (45 minutes) Barack Obama has set out to do the impossible, and even today he is on the cusp of failure. The hyperbole he has built into his campaign through an overreliance on hope, audacity and their related synonyms has made for a compelling presidential candidate that has bucked trends and seems to be on the verge of bringing the critical change that everyone believes is desperately needed in our capitol. His support is broad, and spans many demographics that are traditionally opposed or bear little/no relation to eachother, which is a somewhat lukewarm sign of possible success. Obama might be the most electable candidate the democractic party has fielded since Jimmy Carter in 1976. 1. But being electable and being a good president are two very disparate qualities. The expectations on Barack Obama are ... read more

The Internet, Power, and You. 60 minutes, lightly edited. The concept of putting one’s thoughts to paper is rather extraordinary in the most mundane sense. You have a thought, an image, idea, or concept, and you then translate it into a mathematical algorithim involving 26 letters (in the case of the English language), which in turn can become an auditory, albeit literal translation. Anyways, I’m going to give this a shot. Posted at the top will be a title, and minutes to complete. I am doing this to exercise my brain and hone my writing for an impending novel. Accordingly, expect random bits of dialogue, something I could use some practice with. The most critical element of a fiction novel is the underlying non-fiction, and I think I can exercise some demons through this writing. All ... read more

Dublin was another fantastic travel shop trip arranged by our university's student union. It was at the beginning of our easter break, and allowed us to have an extra day and a half at our destination. Unfortunately, we still left the university on a thursday in the evening, so we were subject to the now familiar routine of a red-eye bus ride broken up by a long ferry trip. I ended up passing out in some contorted position on the bus and had some classy drool marks down my window before it was all over. The ferry ride was rather long, which was fantastic because me and my friend kelly were able to grab halfway comfortable seats and sleep for a good 3-4 hours. Haha this is where the fun starts, we get to Dublin, on ... read more

Phew. I am back. Over the next few days I will be rolling out details of my trips to Paris, Dublin, and London. Wondering where I've been since the old Christmas Shenanigans? Well, worry not my friend. Let's see here. My life is headed in new and exciting directions that I never saw coming. I've been incredibly busy dealing with some things lately, but we'll have to wait and see how they turn out. I have a month left here in Swansea, and will finish my travels with a trip to Barcelona in another week. I also have a lot of schoolwork to do! I'm coming home at the beginning of May and headed straight to Helicopter Crew Member school for Wildland firefighting. Need to make some money! Turns out I will have enough credits to ... read more

I began working on this blog quite awhile ago. I got distracted. And I went home for christmas without my wonderful photo capturing device...errr camera, so I had no way to upload my pictures! So now I'm doing it, after the fact. I'm probably leaving out a lot, which I apologize for. Four score and 3 days ago... (more or less) I went to the land of France, and Paris. In the past, I have bemoaned the lack of luxury on our traveling coaches. Someone was listening, because this coach had approximately one extra inch of knee space. For me, this brought untold joy and celebration admist my sleeping. Unfortunately, our 'luxury coach' had some problems later on in the trip, which will of course come later. So we left on a thursday night, headed for ... read more

Well, hello everyone and hope you had a happy halloween. This is amsterdam... the redlight district, mushrooms, museums and all... Our trip to amsterdam began on a bus, a "luxury travel" coach that had approximately 0% luxury included. We left on 8 o'clock on a thursday night, and I began the trip by wisely checking out 1984, and A Brave New World before my departure in the library. Two great great books, especially 1984 and I enjoyed them immensely while I was on the bus. Once we started moving I decided to stay awake as long as possible. My 6'1" frame was rather cramped in the seat... the journey was uneventful until we missed the ferry by 3!!! minutes and had to wait in dover for an hour and a half. Ouch. By the time we ... read more

After going to bed late the night before, I roused myself at 6 in the morning (thank god for firefighting) and made the 40 minute walk down to campus for the coach. Usually I can take a bus down to campus, but no bus travels that early on a saturday/sunday, so I had to hoof it. Along the way I ran into the british equivalent of a garage sale, which is more of a open market where people display their wares from their car. I bought a translated, story form of the odyssey for 25p (50 cents) and made my way to the bus. The moment I got on the bus I grabbed a seat and faked being asleep while taking up two seats. So, when someone predictably missed the bus, I was left with two ... read more

Well, time to start my travel blog for my stay in the UK. Bear with me as I slowly figure out the odds and ends in this webpage and in my travel prose. Turns out that our foreign studies coordinator organized a trip for us yanks (haha) to go visit two really neat cultural sites, avebury and stonehenge. The ride out was nothing too eventful, basically slept the whole way, and woke up in time to just barely view the "largest pre-medieval mound in europe" basically a giant mount that took years of back breaking work to construct back in 4000 (!!) BC. I unfortunately didn't get any pictures of this spectacle due to my location on the wrong side of the bus. We then moved quickly into avebury, which is quite a nice british hamlet ... read more

Well, this is technically a throwback to a hike that I took a week ago on the gower peninsula. Much of it will appear desolate and probably not as too much fun, however, I enjoyed it! Bearing in mind of course, that I love the outdoors and scenic locales. This is actually the land that king arthur supposedly ruled over and on our bus ride in, we actually passed one of the many "sword stones" from which he pulled his mighty sword. At this time I would like to thank my awesome author/aunt for giving me a copy of "The Once and Future King" from which I know atleast the fictional myth and parable of the mighty king arthur. Landscape landscape and more landscape photos. Until we got down to the bay, and all of this ... read more
