I am very glad that you have arrived safely to Shanghai. I hope you do not have difficulty adapting to the new environment that surrounds you now. I assure you that the noises at late night and early morning will start bothering you at first, but you'll get use to them. I hope they have welcomed you in a way that you feel comfortable and happy. Good luck and you will adapt very easily.-Karla Rivera

Glad to hear you made the journey in one piece. I know that you are probably still walking on air, and feeling a big change in your daily routine now. We called the morning of your departure date, but realized that you were probably out getting the last of the bagels or apple Strudel. Hope to talk soon. Love Jer

Dear Hans, I love your blog and I read it avidly every time I get a chance. I am sad I did not get to wish you a Bon voyage but I am sure you are going to have a great time in China. I need to convince Marianne that we should go and visit. In any case, though our contact has been quite gering in the past few years, your love of teaching and your generosity of spirit will be missed in Miami. I will you all the best in China and I look forward to reading your blogs. All the best and a big hug from Miami. JC

Intersting Information, but . . .? - From: #25 Retiring teacher preparing to teach in China (Arriving in Shanghai, June 2006)
We are all glad you arrived safely, and enjoyed the "festival in your Honor?', but I do have one question regarding the German Mag-Lev train - did you mean to say 380 mph, or was it 380 kmh. The miles per hour is Jet speed, while 380 kmh is still almost 100 kmh more than the TGV. No matter, we still hope to hear more from you in the future. J David sends his best to you.

Dear Mr. Schneider, I miss you so much already. Its going to feel really weird next year having a new German teacher next year. Its going to be a little bit hard to adapt and accept new rules that the new teacher imposes. But I hope that you have a great long trip. i know the Chinese students will accept you and respect you for the way that you are. They are going to love you and they are going to learn a lot from you. Good Luck in China and please com and visit next year. -Karla Rivera

hey schneider - From: #24 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Letter to my students at C.G.Sr.H.S.)
hallo schneider :) if all went well, i assume you must be in china by now, which is difficult to get my head around. without thinking about it twice, saying goodbye to you was probably THE hardest goodbye i have ever had to say. i kept hugging you and saying to myself "ok. i can go now", and then i would come back. it is difficult to picture that next year i will be learning German under another teacher's supervision... it definately will not be the same, but I will give the new teacher the chance she deserves. i hope that by now you have read my letter and that you are sure that i meant every word that i wrote... you are one person who has made an invaluable impact on my life, changed me (for the better, undoubtedly), and i will never forget you or the lessons that you taught us, not only about prepositions and all that (ha), but especially about life. were people in our world as caring, giving, compassionate, understanding, (the list goes on) as you, we would never have to see people die like they are dying all around the world today. and the lessons that you taught us in your class everyday for 3 years have made me realize that i have a DUTY to make sure that i at least TRY to change that. and that is what i promise to do, because people like you came into my life and changed it. now i must try to do the same for other people. i love you too much for words, and i hope you'll keep in touch, and most of all... that i will see you at my high school graduation next year. peace and love to you

short and sweet - From: #24 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Letter to my students at C.G.Sr.H.S.)
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I've been wanting to say my last goodbyes for awhile now but with my work schedule and your school hours I wasn't able to swing by. I am going to miss you very much. I took for granted having you so near me and not visiting often enough. Alina says hi and wishes she could say bye in person but she is in California...doing her modeling thing as usual. Ich wuensche dir eine gute Reise und vieleicht fliege ich nach China und dir besuchen. I know that they will love you in China just as much as we loved you. And if you ever come back to visit you better post it on here so I don't miss your visit. Take care, and I hope everything goes great! I guess this post wasn't as short as I thought it would be. tschu.

Dear Hans: All of the members of your "Department Family" wish you nothing but joy and continued success, and we will all miss you deeply, but nobody more than I. They say that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but nothing could be farther from the truth. In my one short year under your leadership, you have taught this old teacher about honor, dignity, tolerance, compassion, scholarship, and most of all, about forgiveness. We all do indeed love your travel blog, and we anticipate sharing in your new challenges and adventures through the miracle of technology. Please stay in touch with all of us, and we shall do the same. You carry a piece of each and every one of us with you. God Bless and Godspeed, David Kirsner

The best teach one can hope for. - From: #24 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Letter to my students at C.G.Sr.H.S.)
Dear Schneider- If it wasn’t for you me and my sister would still hate each other but because we can have little conversations in German we aren’t always at each others thoughts. This is what is keeping us together. Every time we get into a fight all it takes is for one to call the other a “pig dog” and that is the end of the argument. And for that I thank you. Good luck in the future in china I hope its fun. Remember to keep me posted and send me pictures. O and by the way I am so jealous. I think it is wonderful what you are doing and only hope that I can do the same in the far future. I will always remember you Hans. Good luck. Viel Glueck.

Hey schneider Thought I'd drop by and read a few entries now that AP exams are through for me. I must say that I love your photography (as I'm sure I must have told you before now) and to hear how excited you are to go teach in china is really reassuring. I know we will miss you desperately next year but I guess it's time for you to move on to somewhere where you are happiest and your teaching will be most appreciated. Unfortunately thats not with us but I'm just glad you found it. I would just like you to know you have made a profound impact on everyone in our class. I have spoken to high school graduates who cannot remember most of their high school teachers names. But I feel I can safely say that you will not be the type of teacher that, at least my class, will forget. See you Monday! Margie PS- I think I did okay on the AP!

hey Mr. Schneider..I haven't see you in a while, hopefully I'll see you this monday..but aside from that..I want to thank you, thank you for being such a wonderful, caring, loving human being. Few people do what you do, and that's care so much for what's out there, specially for your students. Anytime you talked during our class, I always listened, because I know you are someone to listen, you are an exemplary person to listen to. You opened my eyes in so many ways, and showed me some great aspects of life. I know I was a pain in the butt, but dont let that get in the way of how much I admire you, I'll always, always remember you, for the best of reasons...thanks not only for being an awesome teacher, but also a great friend to me, and although i've only met you this year, you give me reasons to remember you for years to come..I wish you the best on your teaching expedition to China, and never, never forget how great you are. Wish you the best Mr. Schneider!..-Juan

you've been the best - From: #21 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Leaving Coral Gables Sr. H.S.)
Hey Schneider! WOw!!! I can't believe that highschool is almost over in a few weeks. I am more than happy that you've been my teacher for 4 years...you have been the best and would always remain in my heart. I can say that i had the pleasure of having a teacher like you for 4 years, and although your job was only to teach us German, you have taught us more than that. You have tried to teach us that what matters most in life are not the material items a person possesses, but the internal characteristics. You've been for me when i needed a tough hand to tell me to get my life straight, and although at first it seemed to me like it didn't matter, now i look back at it and thank you for it. I needed someone to tell me all those things, and I've been doing better. It's going to be hard letting go of all those times that we shared in the classroom, with your discussions on politics, religion, society, and so forth. It has been a wonderful experience for me and it saddens me that it has come to an end. Nonetheless, this is just an end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. *Hugs* p.s. Sorry for not being in class, as you know i've had IB and AP tests this whole week and will go on until the last day before graduation. hmm but, I'm going to make time. ta ta ~Danys

Get ready - From: #21 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Leaving Coral Gables Sr. H.S.)
Fear not - you can ready yourself for a whole cavalcade of admiring and only slightly bemused new students! Last Christmas, standing before five hundred students doing turkey impressions, arms flapping with accompanying 'gobble-gobble', only having a fraction of an idea what was going on but thoroughly enjoying it, could be described as both the highlight and nadir of my teaching in China so far.

Then again i cant be greedy and not let someone else have the pleasure of having you as a teacher! beacuse you are by far the best of the best! :) well, see you in class, and thanks for referring to all of us like that even if we caused you a little trouble here and there! it means a lot!

sometimes i wonder why you have impacted me so much, i've only had you for one year, yet you are one of the persons i admire the most... Schneider, you're such a wise person, and i think your most important and special quality is that you treasure all that most of us take for granted. Every single word you've ever said to me, or to our class in general, i've alwyas listened to, admired, and locked in my heard and hear under a label that reads "the best advice" in very awefull maria handwritting :-) i thank you for being a motivation, for being so open, so helpful and most of all, for sharing every single piece of everything you share with us...i think this, is your gift to the world, this is your treasure you give to us, and..."how do you say good-bye to a treasure?" :-) I didnt know you knew how to fly a plane... <3
