| 29th September 2009 June | - From: #119 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 2,The Silk Road near DUNHUANG, Gansu) Motivated by what kind of spirit, dare those tresspassers steal away other nation's unreplaceable treasures? Well, while the cowarded, corrupted rulers turned their blind eyes on the robbery, why not to sacrifyce ancesters' legacies for exchange of a few cash, as done by a taoism monk, who was then garding the side? Sad indeed, never mind, these things do happen. |
| 22nd September 2009 Susan Goodman | lucky you, I loved Dun Huang - From: #119 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 2,The Silk Road near DUNHUANG, Gansu) Hans, I read your blogs and wish I were back in China. My trip to Dun Huang with Linell was wonderful. The place is absolutely unbelievable. I'm wondering how you got the photos of the inside of the caves (but that's a different issue). We saw our alloted number of caves and then went to the hotel on the outskirts with the fantastic top floor bar and met a French artiste manager who had finally got permission to visit many of the caves. These caves are still unknown to most non-Chinese, and probably most Chinese. I was so glad that Linell knew about them and arranged our trip there. You and she should hook up before she decides to return to the US. She's been in China at least 15 years, maybe closer to 20. Thanks for continuing to do your blogs. I love China, but can't return because of lung problems. I wish I had met you while I was teaching at Nanjing. Susan |

| 18th September 2009 Julie | Keep them coming! - From: #119 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 2,The Silk Road near DUNHUANG, Gansu) I tune in every morning to see what you've written. I feel like I'm right there with you. I remember the trip to Spain; that was a blast! I still have my rug from Morocco and the many pictures I took. P.S. You're still dressing very sharply! :) |
| 18th September 2009 Sue Storr | More blue skies! - From: #119 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 2,The Silk Road near DUNHUANG, Gansu) Hi Hans, may I also express my sadness to you regarding Coral Gables High. I know you will be suffering a bit also. You've excelled yourself again! Great blog- still on my "must-see" list! Van cooked itself and cracked the head (of the motor). Too expensive to fix, so trying sans vehicle for a while and see how it goes. Of course that means getting out on my bike a lot more (to and from work especially). Good for the knee rehab- and my return to China- whenever! BTW, you're looking a shadow of your former self!! Hope you are well. Hugs Sue |
| 18th September 2009 Stefanie Kinnamon | - From: #119 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 2,The Silk Road near DUNHUANG, Gansu) Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Pictures of my adventures would involve five-year-olds with their fingers up their noses. Not quite as picturesque I feel. Its funny, I went to Gansu as well and visited completely different areas. I think two people could have basically the same itinerary and come back with completely different stories. Drop me a line sometime and tell me how you are doing. |

| 29th August 2009 Hans | Taizhou Teachers College vs. Taizhou Normal College - From: #116 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China ( Wuxi and Yixing ) Our school has changed its name to Taizhou Teachers College. That is in fact what we are. We prepare China's Youth to become teachers of English. The name Teachers College expresses pride in the profession. The name Normal College does not demand much respect as a translation in the West. Thanks for visiting. By the way, I love Wuxi, and Qingdao is on my list for a visit. Thanks for the invitation. |
| 29th August 2009 Mississippi | i stayed in Wuxi this summer vacation - From: #116 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China ( Wuxi and Yixing ) i have just been back to school in Qingdao .i spent the summer in Wuxi to visit my uncle's .he has a Sichuan Cuisine restaurant in Wuxi, which is just at the back of Wuxi Railway Station. And i know Taizou.there is something i would like to point out ,that the english translation of the school is wrong.however,it should be Taizou Normal College.if you would like to visit Qingdao, just write me E-mails at alexdon1988@berrymail.cn,i am Alex |

| 29th August 2009 Sue | Oh, I'm sooooo envious! - From: #118 Teaching at Taizhou Teachers College, China (Part 1,The Silk Road near Urumqi/Turpan, Xinjiang) Hi Hans What a fabulous trip! Definitely on my "to do" list. Looking forward to the remaining blogs from this trip- and even more to catching up and listening to your stories in person next year. 2010 trip most likely second week in May. Will only be 4weeks, so not really enough time to catch up with everyone and travel to the NW, but we'll see! I've finally started back with my blogs. Edited & loaded up an additional 6 blogs worth of photos last weekend. Hoping to finish the trip this weekend, so I can free up some space on my computer. Then I can get on with publishing! Hugs to all, Suexx |
| 26th August 2009 Julie | Memories - From: #21 Retiring Teacher preparing to teach in China (Leaving Coral Gables Sr. H.S.) As I look at these pictures, I go right back to my German and Spanish classes at RHS in the early 80's. I remember taking similar pictures with you, and I still have those pictures! I always looked forward to your classes not only because they were interesting and informative but also they were a blast! I loved hearing your stories about growing up in Heidelberg and also of your travels. I miss those days so much. Life was so much easier back then; no worries, no cares, just being carefree and still a kid. I am glad life has been so good to you. You haven't aged a bit! |
