So here we are New Zealand. A country steeped in natural beauty blue skies becoming overcast becoming snow hot chocolates and coffee and a whole lot of sleeping in a car. Here are a few of the things weve been upto. After arriving in Christchurch after what was probably the best flight of my life incredibly smooth and the view over New Zealand was astounding we spent the first few nights i

Before you start this I think I should tell you that maybe we should have split it over a few blogs... being as its 3650 words long... so take your time relax have a cup of strong black coffee to keep you awake... and maybe make another one half way through and enjoy finding out about our adventures in the land of Oz...We arrived in Perth somewhat jaded and almost keeled over at how expensive

Ok so we're a little behind have been in Oz for almost 7 weeks.... but here's our adventure up until our flight to Perth.... the rest will follow...err....soonSo we come to our final few weeks in Asia. After a nice few days on Langkawi enjoying the good weather our own cooked food and plenty of wildlife we caught a boat to Penang for Chinese New Year. Maybe we should have researched a littl

After another sleepless night on the train weve had a few we arrived in Surat Thani weary and aching. Luckily we found a decent hotel with a good mattress for 7 a night so we checked in and slept... For 2 days Feeling slightly more rested we continued with our journey and got a minibus to Khao Sok national Park. Signed up for a 2day and 1night camping in the rainforest spent one day a

Bangkok to Laos... and back again

I would like to start with an apology I wrote most of this blog on Christmas Eve but due to an unfortunate turn of events I lost the memory stick that it was saved to somewhere in a river in Laos I know that was a month ago and we should have published it since then but we wanted to catch up. Well we finally.... haven't still but this includes returning to Bangkok now and we will try to ge

Cambodia land of smiles bus rides temples... and laundry

The Okay Guesthouse centred around a covered outdoor dining area always teeming with travellers and smelling a little like a cow shed. They were fully booked and I suppose thats why our twin room was at the buildings highest point past a few mattresses and piles of laundry having a small bed and single pillow. Peter led the way a friendly guy. The room wasnt entirely walled

Floating along the mighty Mekong... with delicious coconut candy

After an enjoyable couple of days in Saigon it was time to move on... again. We booked a budget tour from Saigon to Phnom Penh Cambodia for 3 days and 3 nights. There were about 30 people on the trip so more than we would like but the tour was cheap and for what we paid good value for money We did a couple of trips on the Mekong river the scenery was beautiful and many children were shouting

Saigon. A city with at least two cinemas.

Saigon was great. We stayed in two hotels only one night in Kim's largely because the hotel we were being over charged and they had somehow blocked access to their own website so in order to prove it I had to use Googles saved cache something kim didn't like. Lyly was much cheaper not as nice nut friendly staff.Saigon had a great atmosphere to it and it was here that we found the''bana

Hoi An.

The train to Da Nang was amazing We had hard sleeper tickets the only way to travel although there they really are hard sleepers just a wooden shelf and a sheet. Spectacular rocky views of the coast and fellow passengers who weren't from Minsk sweetened the deal considerably. Hannah did get a lttle nervous largely because I said hope it doesn't tip over. Nevertheless we arrived in sun

Vietnam Hanoi

We arrived in Hanoi after crossing the border by coach from Nanning China. The border crossing was fairly fun when we left the coach we crossed the border in little yellow golf carts. By now it had started to rain.... the passport control was easy although queuing doesn't exist so in order to be served you throw your documents into the booth as fast as you can. Some officials tried to scam u

After arriving from Ninh Binh by coach late into the night we spent one night in a dusty hotel where breakfast consisted of sitting at a table eating bad food whilst being plagued by the staff. They really wanted you to sign up for a tour through them and between mouthfuls of stodgy food we took turns in declining their offers. Then we ran the gauntlet of getting outside where one guy was conv

The end of China

After a very relaxing stay in Chengdu we were up early to catch our minibus to the train station where we then boarded our hard seats for the next 4hours they actually had some padding there is not really any space between you and the person sitting facing you and as seems to be the norm on Chinese trains they blared music into our carriage for the entire journey including My Heart Will Go

I'll start with our last day in Beijing we made it to the old Olympic Stadium of course it's not actually old... just a phrase Unfortunately because over a million people had visited the stadium the previous week from the week long Chinese holiday all the stadiums were closed... I think the word used for the inside is trashed and clearly this would not be the perfect image China wants to p

Moscow to Beijing... A tale of trains.

Right firtly apologies for the extreme lack of posts since Moscow but we've had a little trouble finding internet... So I guess I'll take off where we left in Moscow. Well we made it to the Red Square on my birthday and saw St Basil's cathedral which was everything to be expected... except a little small... Still pretty big in terms of ordinary sized houses but not cathedrals. Glad we saw it b

2 days in Moscow... so far no vodka...

Well tonight we are in Moscow. I feel I should add something about Minsk as it may have sounded like we weren't too keen on the place when that was written... well to be fair we weren't BUT it got better. We braved the rain and made it out of the station came across a football stadium and then a nice looking building with a stern wooden door we tried our best to decifer the cyrillic outside b

Minsk....

So here we are. Minsk. Who would have thought a place with such an amusing name could be so grey. And that goes for the people as well as the weather. We have arrived safely if a little tired and dizzy spending 21hours cramped into a tiny cabin with the bag lady from Moscow taking up all available space and not a soul speaking English which would have been ok if we weren't glared at by every pe
