The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

We are travelling for six months around the world first stop Mexico, then Brazil, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Japan! I'm doing the words he's doing the pics. We have yet to decide on a funny object to take photos of at every land mark we come across. Adventure beckons!

Next stop Melbourne, Australia. After arriving at so many airports in new countries on our own, it was so nice to be greeted by Brett and Becky, who had kindly let us stay with them. We had a great night out on the waterfront in the city and then the next day hit the Great Ocean Road. This road trip was slightly different, however, in that Brett and Becky did all the driving and we just sat back and lapped up the beautiful sights. It was so nice to not be worrying about where we would be going next and where we would stay. We just sat in the back like a couple of children! It was a great weekend, with great seafood and sauvignon blanc, walks along beaches, a tree top walk through the rainforest ... read more

It was so strange arriving in Auckland after South America. It felt really English, especially as it was raining! Being so similar to home made us feel quite homesick; we expected to see friends and family, but of course you weren't there! We soon perked up, however, when we tucked in to our first fry up for 4 months and the sight of Wagamama, our second home in London, was also rather reassuring. Appropriately enough, given the jetlag, our first outing in Auckland was to a coffee festival. Bruce first discovered 'Flat Whites' in a Kiwi coffee place in Soho and was eager to sample them in the land of their birth. He was not disappointed. Even though I don't like coffee, I really enjoyed the festival, because they had a competition where they had to ... read more

After Mendoza we headed further in to the Andes to try a bit of snowboarding. The bus journey was beautiful; snow topped mountains, aqua lakes and blue, cloudless skies. The snowboarding was great, although to begin with it was pretty icy because it hadn't snowed for a few days so we ended up with very sore bottoms! The only downside was the accommodation we were staying in. Places to stay were quite expensive in the ski resort so we stayed in a very basic hostel. There were 5 other people in our room and no heating even though it dropped to minus temperatures. We went to bed at night with wooly hats and gloves on. I was very pleased to leave that place! We then headed back to a little town called Uspallata to catch our ... read more

Next was a return bus to Buenos Aires, where we treated ourselves to a boutique hotel for a night after the privations of the jungle. Life for the first week in B.A. was quite relaxed because it is not a city where there are lots of sights to rush around seeing but more somewhere to soak up the atmosphere. It is so cheap in BA we ate like kings. We borrowed the Wallpaper city guide, which in most countries would contain restuarants that are completely our of our price league, but are affordable in Argentina. We therefore had the most amazing meals, from champagne brunches at designer restaurants to superb bottles of Malbec with meat and cheese platters to sushi at minimalist Japanese establishments. Not forgetting of course the steak, which is the most amazing we ... read more

Hola chicos After the last installment, we travelled from Rio to an island an hour and a half off the ´Costa Verde' of Brazil called Ihla Grande. It was an absolutely gorgeous island and just what we needed after the hecticness of Rio. Only a small village on the island is occupied and you can take day trips by hiking or by boat to the copious lakes and beaches dotted around the island. On the first day we went hiking to find a waterfall (which was never found to Bruce's extreme disappointment) and saw lots of different plants and animals including massive bamboos and monkeys. We then found a beach and were a bit outraged to find that there were another 2 people on it! Unfortunately the next day I had a really bad cold and ... read more

Hola amigos! I can´t believe we´ve been in three different countries since our last blog. If I carry on at this rate, the next blog will be written when we get home! After our last posting, we travelled out of Mexico City to sample the colonial areas. We went to Cuernevaca, which had been recommended to us, but we didn´t really like it. We stayed longer than we should have done there, as it seems to have taken us longer than most to grasp the concept that ´travelling´ means that if you don´t take to a place you move on! Our next stop was Taxco, which we really loved. It is similar to Positano in that it is set on a mountain and all the houses cling to it. It has windy cobbled streets and ... read more

First of all, apologies for the tardiness in writing this blog. Before we left I imagined us having loads of time to write missives from various parts of the world, but we have actually been very busy. Either that or the old adage applies in reverse that if you want something done give it to a busy person! The first week we were here we were browsing the front pages of the papers in the UK on the internet when we came across the headline of the Daily Express ´Hotter than Mexico´. First of all I had never seen Mexico used as a weather comparison before we came out here and secondly we didn´t travel half way round the world for you lot to get better weather than us! We were not amused! Anyway, we ... read more
