| 31st July 2009 HJC | hi Marcy - From: Back in U.S.A: Being Positive on Culture Shock Marcy, so great to hear from you! Currently I am in Maryland where I will be spending time with family until the third week of august. After that it's back to Minnesota to find a place in Minneapolis to live and start school once again. I'll throw you another email once I'm in MN. Wondering if there are any Rotary meetings to look forward to? I would be interested now to run into some Indians and South Africans along with the usual suspect Brazilians. Also, if there are areas where you or the Rotary team needs help facilitating meetings in the coming year with new out bounds or the inbounds I would love to help. cheers for now and enjoy the summer |
| 31st July 2009 Marcia Gerdin | - From: Back in U.S.A: Being Positive on Culture Shock Hilary, I miss you. Are you back in MN or out east? Will you be here this fall for school? You are a wonderful jornalist. Marcia |

| 5th June 2009 mom | - From: Out of India, Into Africa (via the Middle East) good to read your latest news....I understand your sadness at leaving close connections...saying farewell in most contexts is part of what makes living hard...enjoy my old stomping grounds!!!!!! and give Jordan and Suzie-jo hugs and kisses |
| 4th June 2009 Maddie | My Visit to India - From: Out of India, Into Africa (via the Middle East) Rija, I must say that I would not have survived one moment in India without you. Our trip was blessed with moments of chaos related to traveling, dodging creeping stalkers, trying to avoid (and failing miserably) stomach sickness and dust, but also the other extreme of sitting at a moonlight dinner overlooking the Indian Ocean or standing in the heavy monsoon rain that washed away all of the desert sand that was collected over many days in 100 degree heat. Both extremes are what I will relish equally as I sit at my 9-5 job and dream of how I was once exciting and adventurous. Thank you for the gift, but as I said in my birthday card that I handed to you during our 30 hour train ride, this will not be our last adventure. Safe travels now and always, Maddie |
| 27th April 2009 HJC | - From: A Rural Education: Video Blog #1 my friend, i'm not sure I completely understood what you were asking me. I will call you soon to discuss....miss you! ~rija |

| 9th April 2009 Mackenzie Sullivan | Amazing - From: Holi, a most liberating day Hilary, I continue to be amazed by the experiences you are having. It makes me want to be a student again and learn first hand about foreign cultures! When I have time, I read your blog while eating lunch -- often I wish I could be eating what you are instead of what's in my pathetic lunch bag! I look forward to you sharing your experiences with us at CSOM upon your return. |
| 5th March 2009 HJC | - From: Why do we worry about asking certain questions? of course i can't wait to show off my pathetic hindi skills with you...we will definately have to arrange some get-to-gathers with plenty of indian food when i get back. the funny thing about the telling someone their fat is that they still claim it to be a compliment....a testament of wealth...so be it |
| 1st March 2009 Darren | - From: Why do we worry about asking certain questions? I love reading your blogs... Weight is another funny one with Indians. They have no problem pointing out who's fat and who's skinny, men and women. Anyway, your trip still sounds awesome. And I think you've spent a lot more time in India than I have now, which makes me happy... If I ever catch you back in Minneapolis, we'll have to try our broken Hindi on each other. Take care! |
| 27th October 2008 Matt | You are sure seeing a lot - From: McLeod Ganj and the Himalayas The Golden Temple looks sweet, was there a pond/lake of some sort inside? Also, I heard the Dali Lama speak once in Madison and you didn't miss much, it was really hard to make out much of anything he said... |
| 27th October 2008 Matt | figs? - From: Shekharwati and the Taj Hey Hil, great blog, good to hear you're doing well. I think the fruit you have labled as grapes are actually figs, but I could be wrong... |
| 20th October 2008 Alyssa Bennett | - From: Shekharwati and the Taj Your pictures are so amazingly beautiful they make me want to cry. I absolutely love them. I'm contemplating taking one of them and blowing it up and putting it up in my room. |
| 16th October 2008 Gretchen Donahue | - From: Shekharwati and the Taj Hi Hilary, Wow! Beautiful photos. I'm glad that you're taking this fabulous trip now, when you're young. I don't know if we old people could handle some of those train rides and bus rides. But there always seems to be a reward at the end of each of your tough journeys. Stay safe, Gretchen D. |
| 5th October 2008 Darren | - From: Paper Maker Gosh, this makes me nostalgic. I hope your Hindi comes along well, and I look forward to hearing stories when you make it back to the Twin Cities. Phir milenge! |
| 22nd September 2008 Matt Caldis | I can sympathize - From: Paper Maker Hey Hil, another great blog entry, props for using the bullet points, although i did read the whole thing. I can relate to your feeling about the food and the excess of starch as you probably picked up from my last blog, but just stick it out, theres not much else to do. I can also relate to your feelings when encountering the poor as I often feel the same way in Paraguay. Keep smiling and just do what you can, don't take on more than you are able to. |
| 22nd September 2008 mom (sheila) | - From: Paper Maker I continue to enjoy your entries - your descriptions are real and your photographs are exquisite. Povery is a hard thing to encounter......... |
