Monday Afternoon. July 10th. Pamplona, Spain. We woke up after some much needed sleep and took freezing showers (again!) and headed over to the Castillo del Toro which is the arena where they have some of the biggest and best bullfights in the world. I took some time to just watch the crowd while Marcus tried to find the bar, Hemingway’s, which is right across the street from the arena and meet me at 5pm. I sat on the street and remembered the times I read Hemingway and dreamed about being in Spain and attending a bullfight, as well as a [View Full Entry]

No Cameras Allowed Keep in mind when you are reading this and looking for breath taking pics of the running of the bulls, they are NOT here because if the police see you with a camera 10 minutes before the bull run they kick you out. If people on the run see you with a camera they smash it because it is so dangerous and could get people killed if I'm not paying attention. You will just have to take my word for it - it was terrifying and exhilirating and a huge accomplishment not to either fall down and get [View Full Entry]

My favorite plaza in Pamplona...
Street parade...

7/7/06 10:08pm Newark, New Jersey Tarmac. I’m sitting on the 767 right now finally flying to Madrid. It began as a comedy of errors, like most travel does these days. We got the airport in plenty of time to relax, go through security and we were both aghast that neither of us got searched. Then promptly found the Tequileria bar and proceeded to pound a few tall Dos Equis and tell everyone within shouting distance that these two gringos were headed to sure oblivion in Pamplona to run with the bulls! We even started singing that stupid cheer from the Mexican [View Full Entry]

Train station in Madrid

Dropped by an internet cafe to download pics and keep up the travel blog but of course it ainīt that easy here in Europe. Iīm in an internet cafe writing this but, any republicans cover your ears here, they have no way for me to hook up my laptop so I ducked underneath and simply grabbed their internet ether cable and jacked up my laptop and got on the net in a second. No firewalls, no problem. The other problem is I have no power because all the plugs are different and I didnīt bring our plastic adapter to the cafe. [View Full Entry]

7/8/06 4.12pm Hills of Spain on a Train. I’m on the train from Madrid to Pamplona rolling along at a brisk, rather luxurious pace, through the hills and small commercial towns and countryside towards Basque country. The flight was tight, and as Marcus commented as the sun roared through the windows at what was officially 3.30am Tampa time, which was about 8am on Spain time, it was like some kid was playing with the thermostat, hot and cold, hot and cold. The good part of the flight was they had 10 video channels and audio channels on demand and I realized [View Full Entry]

Life tastes more delicious when danger is on the horizon Had a goring away party last night at the bar Bishop's fiance, Chelle, works at, the Rack. The Rack has been a local haunt for me and the Krewe of Brigadoon, and the South Tampa Drunks (STDs), for years now and the food and service have gotten even better in the last year! But, up until actually sitting down with a pint of New Castle in my paw the whole day had been a whirlwind of trying to get everything done, with quality, and on time, with last minute details pounding [View Full Entry]

E, as in Electric!

My father told me a few things that still make sense. One of these things he murmered while driving just the two of us three thousand two hundred and eighteen miles across the United States and I think we were somewhere in Texas. Well, it felt like Texas because I was hot and uncomfortable and ready to jump out of my skin, and I felt like that alot around my Dad at that age. When you're 15 years old and you're stuck with your Dad driving across the friggin entire country, there's really only one thing that seems to take longer [View Full Entry]

Bulls and Bottle Rockets! The good news is I haven't had a nightmare with a bull goring me in it in several days...the bad news its only because I haven't slept since last Thursday! Anyone who has traveled knows how time is slipping by now very quickly, with the last few days filling up fast with the chaos of work (love the new job at SunView Software, a great group of guys!), saying hello again and goodbye for awhile to friends, while planning and packing for a week in Spain -it's all part of the excitement of a true adventure. Spent [View Full Entry]
