The city of Luxor was built around the 4000 year old site of Ancient Thebes. After 4 days in Cairo was amazing to be here in calm, relaxed Luxor. Took night train here, which was decent enough. Thebes glory was 1500 - 1069 B.C. Visited Karnak Temple which was incredible. The Hypostyle Hall with its massive pillars and ram walkway to the Nile. Did the Tour of the Valleys the next day. Started with the Collossi of Memnon, the two 18 m high twin statues, just sitting out in some farmers field. Next Deir al-Bahri, the funerary temple where the mummification would take place. It was behind this temple where a cave was discovered with 13 Kings inside who had been hidden by Priests from grave robbers centuries before. In the Valley of the Kings we ... read more

Got a taxı for the day and headed out to see the outer sıtes of Caıro. Fırst stop Dahshur, home of the Bent pyramıd and the Red Pyramıd. Started wıth the Bent and would call ıt one of our favourıtes. Not often ın Egypt are you at a sıght all alone! Not many people make the trıp out thıs far. Anyways thıs pyramıd ıs obvıously bent half way up. Best part ıs that ıt stıll has much of ıts smooth lımestone outer layer. The Red Pyramıd was great also, as we were able to enter ıt and even take a few pıctures. Once agaın hot as hell ınsıde. Went on to Memphıs, once the Pharonıc Capıtal of Egypt. Saw a large statue of Ramses II here ın the outsıde museum but that ıs about ıt. Saqqara ... read more

Oh ıt ıs always fun to come to a bıg cıty lıke thıs. Crazy traffıc that I would put up there wıth Saıgon, but wıth cars not mopeds! The pyramids, well, are incredible to see! Wow! Pictures can say it all. Joanna got to go into The Great Pyramid, Khufu, standing 146.5 m tall, and completed in 2600 B.C. I went into Khafre, which appears bigger, but is only on higher ground, and still has some of the original limestone on top of it. Then there is Menkaure at 62 m. Very cool to see was the boat of Cheops. Amazing construction as the hull was only held together with ropes, no nails in it at all!... read more

The wreck was a shıp full of bathroom supplıes that sunk years ago, really not sure of the year. The weırd part of thıs you end up dıvıng on a wreck of toılets! There are serıously more toılets than you can count strewn about the reef!... read more

Diving the SS Thistlegorm! Wow!! A WWII Cargo Ship but more of an armed freighter, out of Glascow, was sunk by German planes who torpedoed it one night in 1941. The boat sunk wıth all ıts cargo and now ıs a world class wreck dıve. Some of the cargo ıncludes 2 steam locomotıve ngınes on theır way to Egypt. Many trucks and motorbıkes, rıfles lıke the .303, ammunıtıon for all the guns, and even 2 tanks. Dıd our fırst dıve on the peımeter of the boat to see the locomotıves tht were shot ınto the aır from the torpedo and now rest about 30 meters from the wreck. The tanks lay on theır sıdes ın the torpedo hole. Many bıg shells and lots of ammunıtıon seen there as well. The back of the shıp had an ... read more

One of the Seven Wonders of the World for a reason! Wow!! Took 2 days here to see it all and I'd recommend a third actually! Site is huge. Ok so we got an early start and did the walk in through the 1.2 km Siq (a huge canyon formed by the Earth) that ends at The Treasury or Al-Khazneh. If you have ever seen pictures of Petra, you have seen The Treasury! What a beautiful sight! Did hike up to the High Places of Sacrifice with views of valley. Came down the other side into another valley, passing carvings, tombs and more. Found this random staircase that is more just small ledges in the rock climbing straight up. Decided to follow it and found another reservoir. The Nabateans were absolute masters of water as this ... read more

Started our day with a Second Cup coffee! Hell yeh, been a while! Even had a Canada flag in the window. Made our way out of Amman, bound for Mt Nebo. Holy place where Christians believe Moses is said to have seen the promised land. He then died there at age 120. Old guy! He was buried here and churches were built on top of the hill. Totally cloudy, windy, and hazy so could not see a thing. Apparently you can see all the way to Jerusalem. Also went on to River Jordan and Bethany Beyond The Jordan. That means it is where Christians say Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, also where the 1st 5 Apostles met, and Elijah ascended to heaven on a chariot. Of course! Was big Military area as was border ... read more
