We are looking forward to our summer Baltic Cruise on our beloved Prinsendam. We leave July 6th, fly to Paris and intend to do the trip up and down the Seine on the Bateau Mouche, which we did not do 29 years ago because we could not afford it! Then we train to Amsterdam ( wonderful memories of our 200$ each Eurail pass for 30 days of travel) to meet friends from the 2006 World Cruise- looking forward to seeing Ella and Leon from New York, Bruce and Vicky from Australia and Ross and his daughter from Toronto. We board the [View Full Entry]

Terry and I travelled to the south west of the US to celebrate New Years in Nevada-Arizona and California. First gambling and touring in Las Vegas, saw Menopause, the musical. Then drove to the Grand Canyon, staying on the rim of the south side for great views of sunrise and sunset, a helocopter tour and walks East and West. Wished the trail to the bottom was not as icy, I would have trecked down to the valley and back up maybe even on mule like in Santorini. Lovely! Then to cowboy country, stayed in Wickenburg, ate with the locals and followed [View Full Entry]

May 9th, 2006 We have been home for more than 2 weeks from our 105 day world cruise It is wonderful to be home We had planned this long trip for 3 years and to me it was a privilege to be able to travel to wonderful destinations, learn about people, cultures and the history of different nations and continents. Between Holland America’s Barbara, our friends the Branigan’s and Howard, we learned how to travel safely, efficiently and enjoyably. We met congenial people from all over the world, which we hope we will see again- Ella, think Canadian Thanksgiving, Vicky, after [View Full Entry]

day 90, Naples, Capri Europe » Italy » Campania » Naples
Day 90 May 5th Naples, Italy and the Isle of Capri…I love Limoncello Last night, we sailed past Stromboli(volcano #2) around midnight. The captain said he would slow down around 12 midnight so we could view the eruption. I go to bed early; but I really wanted to see the volcano. I stayed up painfully till 11:15, and went up on the front deck in the dark to better see the show. I saw the large dark cone of the volcano and assumed it was dormant as I saw no flame, no orange, no fire, nada. I returned to my room [View Full Entry]

Capri, rowboat into the blue grotto

Day 89 April 3rd Catania, Sicily, Italy Mount Etna, volcano #1 of this area We rented a van for 7 people and Terry and I having our international driver’s licenses were the designated drivers and navigators. Apparently, you don’t need one but if you get stopped, you pay dearly if you don’t. So I got us lost and Terry tried with great difficulty to get us through a pay station on the super highway; eventually we climbed to the top station of Mt-Etna. We drove from the sea, past farms, under lemon and orange trees, up brush then gravel and ended [View Full Entry]

Day 91 Rome, Italy We were off at the crack of dawn for a 12 hour bus ride; sometimes you just have to suffer these things. Civitavecchia, the port out of Roma is about 1 ½ hours away so we opted for a ship tour, because of distance and time constraints; if we were late, the ship would still wait for us. We disembarked at 8:15 to board a slow bus to the city. After much delay, we reached the outer bus depot at 10:30 and had to run to the Vatican in the rain, get in a line up to [View Full Entry]

Day 92 Ajjacio, Corsica, France- NAPOLEON all the way He was born here and everything is Napoleon- house, cookie tin…. And again, we are tied up to a pier very close to the main tourist area of town. We walked off the ship and across the street boarded a little train that brought us up to the tip the Island to Les Sanguinaires which are rocky outcrops with light house and small fort. I bought Nougat from a merchant at the little store. It was a lovely ride, the weather still balmy and again another lovely blossoming spring day to enjoy. [View Full Entry]

day 93, Barcelona Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
Day 93 Barcelona, Spain. We used the complimentary shuttle bus to go into the main tourist mall leading to a central plaza. Once acclimatized to the surroundings, we chose a hop on, hop off bus to tour all the city efficiently. Barcelona is the town of Gaudi, the wonky architect who is unconventional, he uses lines that imitate nature; his buildings are rounded, curved, honeycombed and spiraled with ceramic added in weird and wonderful places. We saw his apartment buildings, his cathedral, started in the late 1800s and still full of scaffolding with only 7 out of 16 steeples finished- [View Full Entry]

April 10th, 2006 Day 95 of our cruise of 105 Cadiz, Spain We disembarked at 8:15 to board a train for Yerez(45 min away), the capital of Sherry. We attended 2 tours and tastings; now, I am definitely certain that I do not like the stuff, either dry or sweet! Upon our return, we walked Cadiz, every thing was closed because they are gearing up for Easter and on Monday, museums are closed. Second last sail away was lovely. To bed early tonight, gaining an hour. Lovely day with good friends. Ttys, love to all [View Full Entry]
