Thanks for the nice comment!
I've always found travelblogs to be a source of the "realities" of travel--far past the "highlights" that are often available at most advertising/official sites. Of course, even with careful planning, it's almost impossible to experience the exact same route, but no matter, it's all good! I hope that your trip is great as well; do you plan to blog it yourself?

Thank you!
My husband and I are taking this same trip (Saint Paul to Badlands, Rushmore, Devils Tower) in about a month (almost 2 years to the day since you took your trip) and your blog posts are really helping me in terms of what to expect and how to prepare. It's even changing my perspective as to how I can approach this trip. Even after I get to the blog posts that take place after this entry (the point at which we are turning around and heading home) I will still read along with your journey. Thanks for sharing. Even 2 years later, your words and images are reaching people.

Beer-Bellied Server
Good post. I wanted to know even more about your time at the rally, because it seems like (as you were getting at throughout) there is such an interesting contrast between a Chicagoan Professor and the bikers. Also, I like that you confront the stereotypes people like me would have about bikers, and then you either confirm or negate those stereotypes. And the beer-bellied server picture is great.

Cheap Trick and Toll Booths
I saw Velvet Revolver in Rockford a few years back and they brought Cheap Trick on stage to play "Surrender" with them. Love the McSweeny's list. You should bulk that list up to 10 items and submit it to them.

Can I please have permission?
Though it is sad that my bird feeders were of more notice than the terrain (my cats agree) you got good pictures of some of my favorite sights (would you like a copy of my moose picture? he wandered through a few feet from my hammock, I'm sure I told you) I'd love to include some of your shots (especially the porcupine) in my 'finally home' photo update for my blog. Would you mind? I found that while hosting I didn't take enough time to snap photos. You're blog has been a huge visual motivator. Some day I'm gonna take off, hat in hand, and do the same thing. But prolly with walls and a fridge (sorry).

In the interest of accuracy
I believe you'll find upon further examination that your rangers were leading not a third horse but a mule. They're amazing little powerhouses of energy, and a bit sturdier than horses for shifting down logs. I'm really enjoying reading your blog, and only wish my little camp had been as pretty as some of the other places you got to stay.

I was there in your youth, and I don't remember any song "There's a genie on my weenie". Must have been on the school bus!!!

Thanks
Thanks Dave for the pix and informative wilderness writings. It must be difficult to keep all of this coming. Yeah, Evel was great wasn't he? No fear whatsoever. I did in fact own an Evel metal lunchbox as a young lad myself. Keep up the saga. Take care

Hey Dave, thanks for the update. Good to see your doing well. I am jealous I might add. Yellowstone has always been a destination that is on my "to do" list. Happy trails bud

Dead Mans Hand
Great Blog! Keep it up. Where's the photo of the beer-bellied bar maid? I was looking forward to seeing it. As far as Wild Bill's hand goes, wasn't it a pair of aces and a pair of eights? I think that's why they call it the dead man's hand.

Buffalo dropping into the valley
Doesn't it get messy with all of the buffalo dropping off the ridges into the valley? Sounds gory.

Hey Dave, this part of your trip seems a bit "corny" don't you think - ha ha. It looks like a lot of fun from here. Take care and stay safe

You (the human)
You (the human) are putting together a pretty good blog. Great details and enviable statistics, although I can beat you for road-kill sightings any day. We're having a bumper crop of armadillos this year.

Dave's incredible adventure
Hey Dave, thanks for including me in your journey. Now I can sit back in my lazy boy and live vicariously. As an old Navy squid for 22 years and my h/o traveling the globe, I always found that a box of environmentally friendly handi-wipes are irreplaceable for those not so fresh moments in which a cumbersome shower would not fit the bill. Also, the vegetarian MRE's(can purchase at your local camping supply store or online) are quick yet nutritious(chocked full of protein) and also include a small square of TP and even desert in some cases. Good luck, keep in touch.
