Hello Everyone! I suppose that by now you are probably sick of the constant work updates! I apologize for the long delay between entries, as work has picked up quite a bit! A few weeks ago we had our first log lab. The weekend after the log lab, I decided to take Saturday off and make the 2 hour train trip to Edinburgh, Scotland! Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, and is the second most populous city in Scotland behind Glasgow. Edinburgh gradually made its way into becoming the capital of Scotland, beginning with Malcolm Canmore and Queen Margaret chose Castle Rock as thier place of residence. The city has lost much of its pagentry in 1603 with the Union of the Crowns and subsequent departure of James VI. The city is largely divided into two ... read more

Hello Everyone! Time for yet another update! It has been a rather busy two weeks here at the training center. In summary, we learned how to calibrate tools, the functionality of the common remote, the functionality of the miscellaneous tools that go along with the common remote, and the functionality of the dual spectralog tool. We then used these tools to perform our first log lab on the test wells. The most exciting part of the last two weeks was the log lab. The log lab gave us an opportunity to go out on the test wells and perform a job. The way it worked was that each person was given 4 hours to log the well, with a crew of 2 operators helping them. For example: One person would be the engineer, one person would ... read more

Hi Everyone! It's time for another update from Montrose! As stated in my previous entry, Friday was our first day of instruction. We began on Friday learning about the hardware that the ECLIPS system uses to make well logs. We learned how all the hardware is connected and the types of connections between each component. Our instructor was very knowledgeable at the subject, and challenged us to learn the system. He gave us pictues of each component and we basically had to construct the system by memory. Saturday, we practiced the proper procedure for rigging up and rigging down on the open hole test well. It was a bit difficult to get very involved in the process with 12 people on the rig floor! It made for a very crowded situation! Once we were rigged up, ... read more

Hello, and welcome to my travelblog! I will try to keep this blog as up to date as possible during my time here! My name is Chris Miller, and I am a Junior Field Engineer for Baker Atlas, a division of Baker Hughes, Inc. Currently, I am in Montrose, Scotland. Why am I in Scotland you might ask? I am here for training to become a field engineer for Baker Atlas! I arrived in Scotland at Aberdeen, which is on the northeastern coast of Scotland. The airport at Aberdeen was much smaller than I would have expected, only about 7 or 8 terminals. After going through customs and collecting my baggage, I hired a taxi to take me to the train station. Aberdeen is a fairly large city, with the oil industry dominating the economy. It ... read more
