Hey everyone. So after going to school for the past 16 years of my life I've decided to mix it up a bit! I'm not sure exactly what the internet access or phones situation will be like. However, hopefully I can keep you as informed as possible while I venture into SouthEast Asia, with only a week worth of clothes in my backpack, for three months. Sounds like a challenge... I know!

The bus system in Vietnam is awful, I don't think I can say that enough. But it's cheap! So we suck it up. It only cost us like $25 to get all our bus rides from the North to the South of Vietnam. However they were long rides where you are shoved to the back and packed in with the foreigners so the locals can have their own double seats at half price. The drivers are insane! And the roads, not the greatest. A lot of people pop sleeping tablets and valium to get them through the night, I wasn't that smart. Nha Trang was our next stop, I was really excited to get here because I was missing the beaches. Here we did a boat trip, with some uncomfortable snorkelling. There were little tiny jellyfish ... read more

Vietnam! So we arrived in Hanoi 2 weeks ago. We were told that the local people in Northern Vietnam especially were not very nice, but so far everything has been really good with a couple of exceptions. In Hanoi we took a taxi to the waterpark, instead of using his meter (which he could take us on a more scenic route to up the charge) we agreed on a set price of 60,000 dong (approx $3.70 CND). Which was fine, when we got there the meter was 55,000 so we didn't loose much, about .40 cents. We figured on the way back we could find a ride for 50,000 dong being that the drivers weren't looking to busy and would settle for less. We found someone who agreed. It doesn't seem like much money, but here ... read more

I left off last time in Chaing Mai - we only got to spend a few days there but I loved it! While we were there we went looking for a three day trekking trip, however the one night ones seemed more popular so we went with that. Thank God we did because we almost didn't make it through two days of hiking through the jungle! It was quite the adventure, we packed 15 adults into a small toyota pickup and headed onto some off-roads. The truck was spitting out some nasty black smoke as it worked extra hard to go up the inclined roads and through streams, I still can't believe it made it. It dropped us off somewhere where our guide took us mountain climbing, it didn't help that it had recently been raining ... read more

Wow! Sorry I have not been keeping up with my blogging very well! That just means that there is lots and lots to tell.... So I finished off the last one in Ko Pha-Ngan. We spent a couple more days there but we moved to the beach of Haad Rin where the full moon party takes place, being that it was over there was actually some accomodation there! It was soooo much better than Laem Son haha, there were actually lights, shops and people around, so we were alot happier there. We went to see a Muay Thai boxing fight which is really cool! Very intense fighting, I'm not sure that there are any rules it's pretty well anything goes. Even though we were in a way better location our bungalows were pretty gross and the ... read more

Hello Fans, or should I say grandma haha (I think you are my only reader). Well lots has happened since Bangkok. We went took an overnight bus to an island called Ko Tao, it's very small. The bus was interestin, I tried to sleep the whole time because everytime I was awake I was a little nervous about the drive, it was pretty rough. In Ko Tao we took our dive course from Crystal Dive Resort, it was really amazing! We loved their dive crew and really miss the island. It was a four day course, we start in the classroom taking tests and going over your text, watching cheesy videos. Then we went in the pool to learn some skills and then we went on 4 dives in the ocean. On our second dive I ... read more

So we've made it! We arrived in Bangkok last night around midnight. We were in airports and on planes for about 30 hours and lost 12 on the way here, so about a 2 day process! In other words it was the shortest day of my life (only 12 hours) but it definatley felt like the longest. I am happy to say that all our flights and what not were on time, and customs was smooth sailing! So far we haven't had any problems and I'm starting to feel like something has to happen soon haha, knock on wood. When we arrived we turned down the cab drivers at the door with the advice of a Thai man on the plane who said he would overcharge us and took a public taxi with another backpacker so ... read more
