28 December 2010 After a decidedly bad night’s sleep, a combination of sickness coming back with a vengeance and the Balinese weather - howling gales in the night blowing the external blinds into the windows with such ferocity that we both thought the windows were going to break, we weren’t very chirpy this morning. The result being that we missed the early morning class, and that was the only one that we were planning on going to today. We decided after a very lazy morning recovering, that as the fridge was empty we needed supplies, so we got on the bike and headed out to Seminyak Square, to visit the deli/grocer for some provisions, and whilst we were there we also had a little look at in the book shop, and the clothes shops that ... read more

26 & 27 December 2010 I have spent the last few days whilst waiting for Gregg to prepare the last blog wondering how on earth I can possibly make two further days predominantly written off due to illness sound more interesting and inspiring than they were. The truth is that I can’t. So, I am not even going to try. Instead, I’ll tell you a little bit more about Bali. Before I head off in that direction, I will sum up the last two days in the following two sentences. Gregg’s stomach was improved enough to accompany me to Desa Seni for my yoga class by the afternoon of 27th, although he wasn’t up to participating in the class but, instead, sat in the restaurant supping on Early Grey tea and surfing (intermittently, I am ... read more

Christmas in Paradise? Maybe not, I’ll explain…. Christmas Eve We had planned to go to class this morning. The limited schedule of Yoga meant that instead of 4 classes to choose from we had only 2. The first, and the one we really wanted to do was 10:15 am. However I awoke prior to the alarm as after spending nearly 4 months on the road, and making it two weeks into our 8th Asian country, I finally succumbed to Delhi Belly (or should that be Bali belly?) After 4 visits to the bathroom, I managed to drop Lou off at Yoga so she could go, and make it back to the flat in one piece. Some light snoozing, a few more trips to the bathroom and a bit of TV and the 1.5hour class soupled with ... read more

Another surprise for you folks as, once again, I am typing this blog on the second of the days in question. Alas, once more, I am already struggling to remember how we filled yesterday. Is it that, since our days now have an element of routine to them, the minutiae no longer find themselves logged in the tiny filing cabinets in our brains, or have they just decided to go on holiday for the last glimmering moments of 2010? You decide. I can hardly believe that we are now two days away from Christmas. How on earth did that happen? I think that Gregg and I deserve to pat ourselves on the back for having hatched such an awesome plan to make the last few months seem to pass more quickly. As we sat on the ... read more

20th December 2010 Lou’s camera has, since she dropped it in Singapore, been slowly degrading. With the knowledge that parental Christmas presents would be money in the bank this year as we are away, we have been discussing purchasing a new camera to replace it. With this in mind, coupled with the fact that we had failed dismally to get up this morning, mainly due to the huge thunder claps throughout the night that had kept us awake, we decided to head out for a spot of shopping/research. From our last visit to Bali I had remembered that there was a relatively upmarket mall just South of Kuta in Tuban. So that was our destination, once we had suited ourselves up for the journey. The weather has taken a turn for the worse and it ... read more

A little while ago Gregg related a tale about an early morning rise to work on a certain project which he was not, at that time, at liberty to discuss any further. I am now able to share it with you. That morning we was one of our last in Langkawi. We awoke metres from the beach, set about collecting shells and then got to work with the camera. The attached photograph is the result - it may not be the finest example of photographic artistry but we enjoyed creating it. Wishing all our friends and family & anyone else who is kind enough to read our blogs all our love and best wishes this Christmas time. ... read more

We do want to keep blogging every couple of days as we have done for the whole of our trip but it has to be said that, whilst we are still, there is little that happens of note on a daily basis to report. We are keeping our senses open for interesting little anecdotes that might be floating by nevertheless. That said, I am not sure that there are any from the last couple of days. 18 December 2010 Here goes… Yesterday can be best described as a duvet day - until I got a sudden urge to tidy towards the end of the day. I have always found it easier to arise in the mornings if the space that I awake in is ordered and this morning was no exception. We had decided to try ... read more

16 December 2010 Having written the last two of my blogs with barely a picture available to show anyone, and us settling into a routine that meant few new experiences to tell you about I thought I’d take this opportunity to show you a bit more of our location. Having got up and walked to Yoga this morning, I thought I’d show you our walk home…so as a picture paints a thousand words, “read” the pictures now. With our walk home accomplished, we had a few tasks to do. I wanted some transport as without it my options for surfing were down to basically one place and not a great one at that. So I headed out to hire a bike. After a bit of bargaining I got a little moped for the duration of ... read more

14 December 2010 Today marks the end of our first week in Bali and poor old Mr P still hasn’t been riding waves. Today’s mission was therefore to obtain a board. This board needed to not a) not break the bank b) not be at risk of breaking the moment it hit a wave; and c) a body board. Not an easy combination in Bali it turns out as it is all about the stand up boards here and it is hard to find body boards, let alone those in the right size. Today, I have therefore learned a lot about body boards today, such that I feel something of an authority on the subject. We also have to take the jeep back tomorrow so we wanted to make the most of it whilst we ... read more

12 December 2010 Settling into a routine now that we have a home was what our time was all about now. Trying to get up is always a struggle for us but we persevere nonetheless. Getting up for a 9:30 class shouldn’t be too hard but we seemed to make it so. We did make the class but only just in time. We had planned to walk the short distance to the studio, but time got away from us and as such we ended up taking the car. This morning’s class was a two hour version of the one the night before. This combined with the short time between the two classes meant this was most definitely one of the hardest we have done and neither of us enjoyed it very much. The big bonus ... read more
