For our annual travel adventure, Jeanine & I went to Northern Italy. We started off in the Lake District, Lake Como (loved it all, but I have a special place in my heart for Lake Como). We came a day early (from our tour group) and arrived at 6:30 am, took a train to our hotel (with all of the massive luggage) and since it was too early to check in, we dropped off our bags and started to walk around town. In October of 2008, Jeanine & I went to Singapore to visit Jeanine's former colleague, Jazz while she was on an expat assignment. After we toured singapore for several days, we all went to Hong Kong together. From Hong Kong, we took a ferry to Macau. It was a lovely trip with some notable hiccups. For example, We had to fly in a day late and we spent the first night in Japan due to a typhoon in Hong Kong, where we were to have a layover. My friend Jeanine asked me to go with her to the Galapagos - I already had my vacation planned that year - I was planning on getting in my car and driving. Just driving to see where the road would take me. Jeanine gave me the opportunity to scrap that plan for something a little more...structured. I am so glad. 23 May 2007 Hi all, Letting you know that I am here, I am safe & I have electricity and running water! I am staying in Accra in a hostel with other students. Four of us are from UPenn and they are with me here at the internet cafe, emailing their friends and families. We registered at the American Embassy, toured the University of Ghana campus and today we went to the Naguchi (sp?) institute, where they screen the samples that we will send them from our lab in Kumasi for sickle cell disease. There was a group of us that went on an African Flying Safari (no guns) to see all of the wonderful animals in the parks. Jeanine & I went with people that we met in the Galapagos and one of the members of our party, Scott, was excited to fly us around!
