Things to do in Denver Hi Tami,
You will love Denver - it is a beautiful city and there's no end to the things you can do here. While in the city - LoDo is the place to be for galleries, clubs and a good mix of casual and swanky eateries. If you can see Coors Field, you'll know you're in LoDo. The Vesta Dipping Grill and Sullivan's Steakhouse are two of my favorite places for dinner.
There are lots of patio bars and restaurants along the 16th Street Mall - great for people watching! The shuttle that runs along this outdoor mall is free so you can hop on and off the shuttle at your leisure. The Denver Pavillions is on the mall (jump off when you see the Virgin Mega Store sign) if you want to do some shopping.
Cherry Creek Mall is my favorite place to shop - it's a five minute drive from downtown (1st and University). The Cherry Creek area is an upscale neighborhood - on the other side of 1st Ave - and a great place to walk around, shop and people watch. There's an annual art festival that goes on during the 4th of July weekend every year.
Outside of the city - if your trip is short - I would go to Boulder. It's a beautiful town and, I think, the essence of Colorado. I highly recommend walking along the Pearl Street Mall (outside, of course!). There's a great little book store there - along with lots of of shopping and eating - the sidewalk entertainers are fun to watch, too! The drive to Boulder from Denver takes about 30 minutes or so, but it's absolutely gorgeous! There are tons of hiking/walking trails in Boulder - Chataqua Park is my favorite - so beautiful!
If you want to have some peaceful time in the mountains, just drive up Highway 285 - you'll hit a little town called Kittredge and, after that, you'll come upon Evergreen (about 30 minutes from Denver). Evergreen has some beautiful trails - a very popular spot for mountain biking and hiking. Not really much to do in either place - but the drive up is beautiful.
Morrison is just ouside of Denver (in my back yard), if you've never been to Red Rocks, you should check it out. The view of the city is incredible there.
These are just a few ideas; if you have any questions or had something different in mind, I'm happy to help point you in the right direction.
Happy travels!
Shannon
never been to denver I'm going to Denver on business in July. I want to extend the trip with a little vacation. I'll be in the city for 3 days and then hope to stay outside for a little interaction with nature. Those of you who are regular Denver visitors or Denver locals....what's the best way for me to get a taste of Colorado right outside of Denver?
Flea Market Flea market comes from the French marché aux puces, a name originally given to a market in Paris. The fleas were thought to be in the goods, because they were of the kind to attract vermin. The earliest English use we have found dates from 1922.
Uh, I just cut and pasted that from a website. I don't actually know this stuff.

Uh. That picture of Evil Uncle Randy really is my brother and not my alter ego. I think.
