Gids927 - GR

Greetings from Chicago IL.

Traveling is something that I like to do when I have time. Every year, I go to a place that I have never seen before to break the monotony of my daily work & home routine. I believe that we learn a lot from traveling and experience the diversity of cultures worldwide.

Lastly, I have been searching for a site to document and share my travel experiences online for a long time now until I finally found Travelblog. It is great to know there is a website where travellers meet and share their experiences.

I hope you will find the information in my blog useful and the pictures enjoyable.

Comments, remarks & suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

The most exciting part of this trip to Hawaii is the helicopter tour. I thought there will be no other way to see the flowing and burning lava other than an aerial view. When we visited the Volcano National Park a couple of days ago, I've seen so many interesting sights but not the fresh flowing lava. For me, this trip is not complete unless I see this spectacular activity first hand. So, we booked the hellicopter tour 2 days in advance. We opted for the late afternoon flight for a better view. In the morning before the chopper tour, [View Full Entry]

Today we were scheduled to do the Atlantis Submarine Tour. I would have wanted to scuba dive to see Hawaii's coral reefs but since I am travelling with a friend who does not swim, we opted to see the coral reefs thru a submarine. The pier in Kona is about 40 minutes drive from our hotel so we left early to make it on time for the check-in. While waiting for the boat that will transfer us to the sub, we walk around the pier area and I was amazed to see how clear the water is. In fact, they [View Full Entry]

After staying in Maui for a few days, we flew to the Big Island via Island Air, a local Hawaii'an airline. As we were airborne, I had a nice aerial view of Maui and the little islands off the shore. It was nice to see the big waves, the white sand beaches and the blue ocean waters. It was a short flight, about 25 minutes. After we landed in Kona International Airport, I checked-out the rental car and drove off. I had no idea that the Kona airport is located by the old lava flow, so just minutes after leaving [View Full Entry]

After a long flight, 9 hours and 3 mins to be exact, my direct flight from Chicago landed at Kahului airport in Maui on Monday as scheduled. I then went to check out the car rental that I have booked online and about an hour later, I was already resting in the hotel. After a short but restful nap, we drove to see the area of our hotel location. We found a big mall, a few fastfoods, and Starbucks. Good start. Thirty minutes later, we found a local Japanese-Asian Sushi Bar. Nice place, good food, and friendly staff. After a [View Full Entry]

I travelled to Colorado Springs,CO to visit my sister and her family on the thanksgiving day weekend. At this time of the year, it was an amazingly nice and sunny weekend. So, we took time to see a few of Colorado's natural wonders like the Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, the historic Royal Gorge Bridge and the summit of America's mountain, Pike's Peak. Garden of the Gods is a free public park that was donated by the Perkins family. There are various interesting and colorful rock formations in the park. The Manitou Cliff dwellings showcase the native American Indians' [View Full Entry]

Minneapolis and St Paul are two of the largest and busiest cities in Minnesota. The former being the financial center, and the latter as the seat of government. Aside from being home to the country's largest companies like Northwest Airlines and retail giant Target, the twin cities is also the home of "Mall of America". Located in Blue Mounds, WI, the cave is just 30 minutes drive from Madison. Cave of the Mounds was discovered by accident on August 4, 1939 when blasting in a limestone quarry revealed a cavern over 20 feet high. It was opened to the public in May, 1940 and has now seen millions of visitors. Known for the quantity and variety of its speleothems, it was named a National Natural Landmark by the Department of the Interior and National Park Service in 1988. It was a totally hot and sunny day when we visited the cave. However, we were told that [View Full Entry]

I’ve always wanted to visit Madison, Wisconsin, and I did this past memorial weekend. Having a 3-day off, my friends and I went on a road trip and our first destination was Madison. Aside from being the capital of the State of Wisconsin, this lakeside town is home to the infamous University of Wisconsin (said to be America’s party university). We strolled the Capitol area, State Street, and the university campus conveniently located by the lake at the end of State St. State Street also connects the capitol building and the university. Vehicles are not allowed in this street wher [View Full Entry]
