| 3rd June 2006 Chuck C. | Your Summary - From: Summary Notes I'll bet you two are secretly glad to be back. Only 3900 + miles? As you so entertainly described your trip, i felt it would have been longer. Durango (despite my "fo-pah" in jumping the gun on the train ride), you can go one way on most of these Tourist lines and return by bus, to me that would be missing half the fun, but that's me. Clare and I could have done this on the White Pass & Yukon, didn't, glad we didn't. Coming back you can readily see the track ahead (and much lower), makes you feel like your'e on a Roller Coaster. When you get back to Skagway you really appreciate the time the Maintainance crews put in on the brakes. Last note mentioned that Family Mass garnered 35 at St. Michael's. Fr. Vito gave a short (long with him) talk and mentioned KC in every other sentence. All went went well, as usual Brother Torre deserves a hand for helping with the St. Mike's arrangements. See you soon. |
| 3rd June 2006 Pat & Ron | The End - From: Summary Notes Thanks Giddyup and Tagalong for the great TravelBlog. So much fun to open your chapters each night and read about your adventures. Your pictures only added to the interesting 'read'. You really should try your hand at publishing...I know you want to be the 'master of nothingness', but just imagine...you could be another Mark Twain. ;>) |
| 3rd June 2006 Keith | Armchair Vacation - From: Summary Notes Has it really been 19 days? You made us feel like we were riding in the back seat. Thank you! Now we can save this year's vacation money for something else. Welcome home! |
| 31st May 2006 Outstanding | - From: The End What do you mean "when we were young?" |
| 28th May 2006 Chuck C. | The End? Say It Ain't So! - From: The End You write a very intertaining and enlightening blog. Perhaps you could summerize the next few days and the trip back in ONE more installment. Today (5/28) we had our "Family Mass" followed by a Continental Breakfast (do they like OJ, donuts and bageld w/coffee or choclate on the Continent?) Attendance, following the 7:30 AM Mass wasn't bad. Don & I had setup Saturday, so all the prep this AM was plugging in the coffees and (hoping the circuit didn't blow - it worked fine) bringing in the donuts and bagels. Fair turnout - 35 Incl. Fr. Vito and kids (4). Got Father to say a few words and he went on for about five minutes extoling the Knights, here's a man we should recruit. Suggestion was made that we should hold these, perhaps four times a year, made by Bro. Romero. Wot U tink? See you soon, enjoy. |
| 28th May 2006 Wally Mooney | Pat & I enjoyed your trip very much! - From: The End We felt we took the journey with you guys. We just came from a KofC 0730 Mass get-together at IHM. Turn-out about 20-25 members. Non- fattening doughnuts were served! Pat and Wally Mooney |
| 27th May 2006 Michael & Konnor | Cool - From: Day 12 Vernal Utah Dinosaur NM, Flaming Gorge, Rock Springs Wyo What dianasour skeletons did you see? I think they were parisarolofis. We liked the pictures of the bones a lot. We miss you Poppy and Nanny. |
| 27th May 2006 Betty Swedberg | It's so true about the alcohol in Wyoming - From: Day 12 Vernal Utah Dinosaur NM, Flaming Gorge, Rock Springs Wyo I am looking forward each nite to your journal, Konrad. You do a great job of describing everything, so I am right there with you guys. Our daughter Karla married into a Wyoming family-lived in Cody, and now Billings, but they are all a bunch of boozers! Those long winters will do it to you, and all that open space. Today was our 55th anniversary, and you are doing what we should be doing, but we went to Max's tonite, and during the day we worked on getting an apartment ready for new tenants. You do what you have to do-or at least that's how we see it now! Listen to those ladies directing you! Drive carefully! |
| 27th May 2006 Pat | GPS Lady - From: Day 12 Vernal Utah Dinosaur NM, Flaming Gorge, Rock Springs Wyo Watch out Giddyup...that GPS Lady is in charge and she means business....you want to get home don't you?!?! Wycoming looks wide open with lots of sagebrush and wind whipping around! Amazing how the scenery changes within a few hundred miles! How was the saloon?...........Pat ;-) |

| 25th May 2006 k and b west | to the author - From: Grand Junction, Arches NP, Dead Horse to Green River Hey Kon, love your blog. We are reliving our trip thru you. | 24th May 2006 another Chuck C. | Day 7 - From: Day 9 Durango to Grand Junction What happened? I can't find day 7, am I looking for the "Grail"? |
| 24th May 2006 Chuck C. | Your Day 9 - From: Day 9 Durango to Grand Junction You passed up a chance to do some 4-wheeling, possibly even in snow,. hard to believe. (Or doesn't your SUV have 4X drive?) Mixing Margaritas and Dos XX beer, boy are you brave. At least the beer is a good one. (Don never seems to get any for meeting/dinners.) Enjoy. |
| 24th May 2006 Pat | Awesome! - From: Day 9 Durango to Grand Junction Your descriptions are pretty darn good Giddyup! Your stories...so,so! Your trip is full of beautiful areas of our good 'ole US of A. Keep the travelog coming! We, your public, are enjoying every morsel....Pat |
| 23rd May 2006 Chuck C. | I'm soooooo sorry - From: Day 8 Durango Silverton RRy That I had the nerve to underestimate you and M. Wonderful story; not what I'm used to reading, (mostly technical details of the Mikados.) Now that EVERYONE knows I doubted you, contnue to have fun and keep all informed. |
| 22nd May 2006 Chuck C. | Durango and "cielings" - From: Day 6 Mesa Verde I can't (read don't want to) believe you were in Durango and didn't take the Narrow Gauge train to Silverton (?), Shame on you, as a old ferrooequinologist, I hereby officially chide you for not doing so. As far as "cielings" go, do you suppose I might have some of these in my house? Keep these coming, very entertaining and, believe it or not, enlightening. |
| 22nd May 2006 Pat | Great Descriptions! - From: Day 6 Mesa Verde Hi Giddyup&Tagalong! Your adventures are keeping all of us on the edge of our seats. I may have to research the Anasazi people...sounds so interesting! Can you imagine 'us' carving out a mountain and living in those harsh conditions? I think not...we're certainly much too delicate for that life! Do you think they had Manhattens after a hard day of work? ....keep on trekking! Hugs, Pat |
| 21st May 2006 Cousin Ellen | Great Trip Journal! - From: Day 5 Hi You Two! Just had to write and tell you how I'm enjoying your trip. I know you've travelled everywhere but I have to tell you I'm enjoying this the most of all your journals. You are gutsy travellers! I'd never go anywhere 8,000 feet-- only when ascending on an airplane! Take care, be safe and keep writing. Looking forward to next entry. |
| 21st May 2006 Judy | Thanks for the great info.............. - From: Day 5 .............we feel like we've sent out "our scouts" to survey the wilderness. I'm already putting down Best Western in Ruby (big & has SHOPPING) to stay at next year. M, I'm SO PROUD of you for driving.....and Kon too for "allowing it". That would never work with us! Pics are beautifull & inviting. You're an electronic toys wiz kid Kon. Great fun also to connect with the whole gang & their comments (Bette, Pat, Ron, etc.) Hi everyone! God bless and keep you safe............ |
| 21st May 2006 Pat | Your Thrill Ride - From: Day 5 Wow...the chapters are getting exciting! And the pics are terrific...so much better than postcards!!! Sounds like you are having a grand time in the 'old west'. I bet some of those towns out in the middle of no where can tell a few stories! Didn't realize some of those places had such high altitudes...take it easy old timer! Watch out M ...that GPS lady and Kon seem to be getting on pretty well. Enjoy you two! Love the logs...keep 'em coming! Hugs, Pat |
| 21st May 2006 Keith | Las Vegas - From: Day 5 Your Las Vegas comments came at the perfect time. Elizabeth left Friday night for 10 days at nearby Nellis Air Force Base. Your descriptions helped her catch up on all the new sturr before heading out. |
| 21st May 2006 Chuck C. | Day 4 - From: Day 4 In your next life you are going to have to spend more time in each park, preferably when it's cooler. Keep the narritive and pictures coming, they're great. I've been entertaining the idea of binding them into a travel book, will wait for your last blog and return before seeking a publisher. Pulpit announcement, all Masses, about Family Mass, also about dinner this coming Wednesday. Father had a comment about the "pasta and meatballs for the non-fish eaters". Complimentary. |
| 21st May 2006 Betty | Really good read! - From: Day 5 Hi to the two of you! I look forward every night to reading about your trip. I feel I am there with you! The photos are great too! I would be car sick, unless I did the driving. We have never been to any of these parks, so it is really interesting! Thanx for the travel log. Enjoy your next day! And watch those high altitudes-take it easy! |

| 17th May 2006 Chuck Cooper | Redwd-Vegas - From: Day 1 - Redwood City to Las Vegas Well Congratulations, you and your wife now know why the Thunder Valley Casino (no. of Sscramento) bills itself as the "Vegas of the West". They may be reached by a drive that sstarts in the Bay Area, as did you, and gets hotter as you approach, The differewnce is they are only (approx.) 139 miles and twoand a half hours away. Perhaps that's why I haven't been to the NV Vegas in over 15-20 years. Reno is also closer and more to my liking, temperture-wise. Enjoy the Southwest, it's B I G ! |
| 15th May 2006 Betty | There you go again! - From: Road Trip to the National Parks Konrad, you have done it again. Sounds like so much fun. You know I will look forward to reading about your days. You will probably get weary of writing afterwhile, and now you know you must keep it up for all of your friends & readers. This blog idea is good, as you can just update each day, and when you get home, you can read about these 2 people and their great vacation. Hope that car runs good, and knows where it is going. Stay cool, & hi to Marilyn! Betty |
