Following God's leading to Uganda Africa is a privilege and honor. We are thrilled to embark on this adventure. Our prayer is that God will use us to bring healing to hurting people in Acholiland. Please pray that people in Uganda will experience Christ through us. God bless you.

I have been laying awake since 5 am; partly because of the howling dogs and roosters, and partly because of the upcoming events of our next few days-(Carl and I are leading discipleship and trauma training for 19 staff), but mostly because of the experience we were privileged to have yesterday… We left Kampala for Gulu in the morning, with a car full of people and topped with luggage.<span> Our 4.5 hour trip took almost 9 hours.<span> We wanted to stop briefly, in a couple of places along the road, to visit some of our ‘young adult’ friends, who have been through the trauma rehabilitation program and are former child soldiers.<span> Each, were willing to meet us at the roadside to make it convenient for the “busy” travelers. First stop, bananas… but we were feeling frustrated ... read more

Merry Christmas “When Christ came into the world, He said… ‘Here I am…I have come to do Your will, O God’…and by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…Therefore, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10). What an awesome and humble sacrifice of glory and pain, so we now have the ability to come boldly before the throne of God.<span> Thank you Jesus! We are now 3 months into our 4th year in Uganda, and feeling blown away by the privilege we have had to see God move in miraculous ways here!<span> This past week, we traveled to Gulu then South Sudan.<span> This was my first trip to South Sudan and I had the ... read more

Returning from America to Uganda without Julie, Emma & Grace is always a lonely experience. Leaving my family and friends is hard enough, but returning alone and spending three weeks without my beautiful wife and 2 amazing daughters is almost enough to make me question why I am here and is this really what God is calling me to do. It can be lonely and tiring when you are so far away from the people you love. And, I can be pretty pathetic without Julie taking care of me. However, I am not completely alone! First, I am comforted daily by the One who will "never leave me nor forsake me." The times when I am most lonely and isolated seem to be the times I draw most heavily upon the Lord. He certainly sustains me ... read more

It's official! Our new office in Sudan is officially open and serving the war affected community of Magwi in the Eastern Equtorial State of South Sudan... not without an interesting ordeal, however!! Carl attempted to head up to Sudan over the weekend to deliver his staff to his new post - but satan had other plans. Initially, his tire shredded on the busy Gulu road, sending him almost out of control. He made it to Gulu on his spare, purchased another used tire and headed toward Sudan the next morning. Two hours out of Gulu, that tire shredded and they had to turn around and drive back to Gulu. Carl purchased 2 new tires and prayed about whether or not they should make the trip. Carl believed strongly the trip should happen so they headed out ... read more

It seems we almost always start our blog with an apology for not being more faithful in our updates. However, this time the apology really is warranted. So much has been going on and we keep wanting to update everyone, but somehow just fail to follow through… sorry! God is moving in great ways, keep reading to see where He is taking the ministry... Our recent 4th of July celebrations were bittersweet. It is always sad being away from family and close friends on holidays and special occasions. And, being out of the country and away from home on such a patriotic day left us feeling a bit lonely and homesick. However, we did feel blessed to be surrounded by a large community of American friends and to celebrate at an event run by the US ... read more

Yes, it’s true… and I am not just putting that as a header of our blog to get you to read our update! This past week, we became the proud new parents of a 14 year old pregnant girl from Gulu! It has been a whirlwind of an adventure, with excitement and feelings of overwhelm, but God is directing it all. We first found out about Judith in passing, when I was chatting with a friend of mine. She works with young Congolese women, who were formally prostitutes. A mutual friend of ours referred Judith to her program (though Judith was certainly not prostituting and not Congolese). This friend was not able to take Judith in, due to a waiting list. Though we hear frequently about children in need, for some reason, God broke my heart ... read more

Exciting things are happening! This past week alone, we had the opportunity to watch God usher 2,000 individuals into His kingdom! Praise God! Carl sent his team to an area hungry for trauma rehabilitation and people poured in. The team lost count at 2,800 participants; they think the total number was over 3,000! Each participant came faithfully, many walking 10 kilometers to attend every day. We went to visit them a day before their graduation, and we were greeted with shouts of gratitude and dancing. (see pictures below) Through drama, testimony and music, they shared how their lives were impacted. The team has not calculated the final figures, but they believe over 2,000 people gave their lives to Christ as a result of the program. We are praying that each of those 2,000 return for the ... read more

I have been anxious to send a message for weeks, but have not had access to internet. I only have a few minutes, but there is much to share... Our family left early in the morning on Christmas day for Australia. Travelling on an airplane was an unusual way for us to celebrate Christmas, but we enjoyed the time spent together as a family. We had an amazing time seeing friends, exploring the Sydney area and getting ready for Watoto's Restore Tour. Once the Restore Tour arrived, I spent most of my time with the children making sure they were ready for the second leg of their tour. Overall, the children are doing really well and are impacting so many lives for Christ with their stories of forgiveness and hope. I left Australia on January 22nd, ... read more

BLESSED!!! 1 Thes. 3:9 “How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?” The Gaede's have returned to Uganda! Once again, jet lag has been an issue as all members of the family have had sleepless nights and tired days. However, after a week of being back, we are all finally getting adjusted to the time and getting back into our routine. Of course, our trip back to America was amazing. We all had a really nice time being with family and friends. Emma and Grace had a great time with grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Julie, Emma & Grace were in America for about 2 1/2 months. However, the first 6 weeks were a bit difficult as the ... read more

The Restore Tour is HERE, do not miss it! Make sure you find out when it is near you (www.restoretour.com) and mark your calendars. The amazing children and adults who are involved in the tour have worked tirelessly for months and are now making the final preparations for departure. Carl leaves Uganda this Sunday to be in Winnipeg when the children arrive a few days later. For those of you near the Twin Cities, the show will be on Friday September 10th. The show is free but it is only in the area for one night before moving on to Chicago and the East Coast. Be sure to contact Julie or Faith Community Church in New Richmond if you would like more information or if you would like to coordinate transportation. You can also email us ... read more
