Look, I know what you've been thinking the last few weeks. It's been pretty obvious to us too, but we just haven't gotten around to it yet. But still, there you are, sitting at home thinking over and over to yourself, "Hey! What about Southern Spain???" Don't worry friends, we've been thinking it too. And as usual, we've got you covered. So Southern Spain it is. You may remember something similar from such recent blogs as "Central Spain" (Madrid) which we did just back in February. But if there's an unchartered piece of EARTH, Gabriela's manifest destiny is that this Meenan [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Lucky you, a new blog! Stir-crazy from working too many weekends lately, Gabriela proclaimed our vacation break officially over. So this past weekend we went nuts, visiting Amsterdam (Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium) and Brussels (Belgium). As much as there is to see and do in all these towns, we only had a span of two and a half days. Asked to comment, Gabriela replied, "crazy, yet possible". Exactly! We begin in the REAL sin-city, Amsterdam. Home to a world famous red light district, and "coffee shops" that will sell you ANYTHING you'd like to smoke, Gabriela and I couldn't wait [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone, We've been delayed in sending this out. So enjoy the short and newest blog. We were off to Hamburg for a quick 1 night weekend getaway. We stayed at a nice hotel in the midst of town by the trainstation and walked around town. Sadly it rained during our trip. Once it began raining, we hopped on a bus for the rest of our tour. Hamburg is a port town, well known for its red light district and its seafood. Here some rainy pictures for your enjoyment. Tony and Gabriela Meenan [View Full Entry]

Hola.....Ladies!!!

Lots of knifes, swords, and armor. Rashad was in heaven.
Over the MLK long holiday weekend Gabriela and I once again took to the air for a bit of world traveling. We met up with our friend Rashad for a visit to the capital of Spain, Madrid. Overall, we found Madrid to be one of the very best places we've visited so far. It offered all the things that you look for in a vacation. It had plenty of sites to see, awesome food, a fun and active atmosphere, easily "walkable" streets, and enough shopping to keep all of us happy. And you know which "all of us" I'm speaking of. Egypt

Africa » Egypt » Lower Egypt » Cairo
As my friend in Germany always tells me, every good story begins with the phrase, "No S***, there I was." In this particular instance, the story continues while sitting in a cafe in Cairo, Egypt waiting for a train. A young Egyptian man was on my left and a middle-aged Kuwaiti man smoking in front of me. Gabriela sat quietly on my right as I struggled to answer the one difficult question that all American travelers seem to face these days. They asked honestly, and really wanted an opinion rather than a politically correct answer. I felt obliged to respond honestly [View Full Entry]

Note before beginning: Tony escaped from blogging again. Blame him. This past weekend we were off to Paris. It was a too quick but very enjoyable and relaxing time. I could've done without the rain or the wind, but that didn't deter me in the quest for the deliciousness! The sites were wonderful; the Louvre full of art and history, the Eiffel standing tall, the Champs Elyse full of people, but the focus of this trip was croissants, crepes, macaroons, baguettes, and chocolate of course. I researched and reviewed many foodie websites before deciding which locations to go to in order [View Full Entry]

Hello! Guest blogging today is Gabriela. Sorry Tony has been sent away for work, so this time I blog. Thailand- the land of smiles it was. Everyone is super friendly and smiles all the time. The food was terrific, spicy and fresh. Oh yum, I miss the food just thinking of it! From Pad Thai, to delicious Tom Yum Goong (spicy and sour shrimp soup with lemongrass), to young coconut drinks, and to Thai ice tea, it was very good. I'll need to find a place to get some over here, or wait until I get to the states to try [View Full Entry]

A common view in the city of Stockholm, Sweden
The recent long holiday weekend (Columbus day) gave Gabriela and I the chance to head North and visit two countries that we have never been to before: Sweden and Finland. We've been to a good number of places since we moved to Europe, but we've never taken the opportunity to visit any of the Scandinavian countries. So off we went, visiting the capital cities of both nations. In the end, we found both Stockholm and Helsinki more relaxed quaint towns than bustling capital cities. Each offered beautiful views of plentiful ship-yards, sailboats, little shops, and Scandinavian architecture. Rather then offering an [View Full Entry]

Lorena and the EOC

Here's Gabriela and her mother Lorena smiling in front of Westminster Abbey in London.
Gabriela and I enjoyed a two-week visit of Gabriela’s mother Lorena this month. As soon as she arrived, we wasted no time, hopping a plane to show her the Europe that we usually speak to her about on the phone. We had many memorable experiences touring the streets of London and Rome together. But nothing will be as memorable to me as the time I came home from work and opened the refrigerator to find it stocked full of freshly-cooked Mexican food. The Mexican-buffet that she provided continues to this day, as she filled our freezer with any number of dishes [View Full Entry]

Leaning Tower of Pisa - the photo doesn't do the lean justice. That sucker is on the way down.
There are three things about Italy that I thought I knew. During our recent trip to both Pisa and the villages of the Cinqua Terre (five towns), I confirmed absolutely that these bits of knowledge are in fact, irrefutable truths. TRUTH #1: The Leaning Tower of Pisa is REALLY leaning. No, seriously, that thing is REALLY, REALLY leaning. It actually looks more like it’s on the verge of utter collapse. Obviously the name warns you of this before you come face-to-face with the structure. But when you stand there in person, you get can see the angle at which it leans, [View Full Entry]
