Well, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, including our summer trip ,so on Thursday, August 14, 2008, we had to do just that -- end out trip and head home. It was mostly an uneventful trip where we would drive a couple of days, find a nice RV park and stop a couple of days, then travel again. The route we took is as follows: August 14, 2008 Happy Vally RV Park in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. August 15, 2008 - August 17, 2008 -- Army Corp of Engineers' Park on Lake Cochita, Santa Fe, New [View Full Entry]

On Monday, July 28, 2008, we departed Flaming Gorge, Utah and headed to the Moab, Utah area where there are several places we wanted to visit -- Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park. Shortly after getting underway that morning we noticed the truck was running hot and had to pull over and add water to the radiator, but it was not too long before the truck was running hot again; so again we had to stop, let the truck cool down and add water to the radiator. Over the next few hours this happened several more [View Full Entry]

On Monday, July 14, 2008, we departed Grand Teton National Park and arrived in Rock Springs, Wyoming, a small town where we decided to spend a couple of days at a KOA RV park in order to have full hookups so I could get caught up on the wash and we could go grocery shopping. On Wednesday, July 16, 2008, we left Rock Springs and arrived at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and stayed at Antelope Flats Campground, one of about 10 campgrounds in the Gorge. We decided on this campground because it overlooked a reservoir and beautiful red rock cliffs. [View Full Entry]

On July 8, 2008, we left Red Rock RV Park at Island Park, Idaho, and arrived at The Grand Teton National Park (Gros Ventre Campground - pronounced Grow Vaunt). We were dry camping here as this national park had no facilities other than a dump station for your black and gray water and a spigot with fresh water so you could fill your fresh water tank. For most Rvers wanting to fill their water tank that meant hauling their RV up to where the fresh water spigot was located at the very front of the campground. However, we do have a [View Full Entry]

On Monday, June 23, we departed the Shoshone National Forest and drove to Island Park, Idaho where we had reservations at Red Rock Campground. It was only about 160 mile drive. We did have to drive back through Yellowstone and since it is summer there were many tourists, traffic was heavy, people driving slow and pulling over to see the animals, so it did take us about 5 1/2 hours to drive those 160 miles. It was another beautiful drive back through Yellowstone. We stayed at Red Rock Campground in Island Park, Idaho for a week because friends of ours (John [View Full Entry]

On Sunday, June 15, 2008, we left the city of Cody behind us and moved about 35 miles up the road to Rex Hale Campground located in the beautiful Shoshone National Forest. We decided to stay here for the next 8 days to relax and enjoy the beautiful and serene surroundings. Whenever we have to stay in an RV park that is like a trailer park with RVs lined up next to one another and no privacy, we are always ready to spend some time in a more natural setting; and this campground was situated in a beautiful setting -- high [View Full Entry]

We departed Devil's Tower on June 11, 2008 heading for Cody, Wyoming. We spent the night in Buffalo, Wyoming and got underway the next morning. There were two routes we could take from Buffalo to Cody, but were told one of them was a safer and easier drive than the other one. As it turned out, I am glad we took the safer drive because we would not have wanted to experience the other route if the one we took was the safer one. We were going to have to cross over the Big Horn Mountains going through Powder River Pass, [View Full Entry]

Thursday, June 5, 2008 we departed Deadwood, South Dakota and arrived at Devil's Tower, Wyoming, which was proclaimed by President Theodore Roosevelt as America's first national monument on September 24, 1906 and rises 1,267 feet above the Belle Fourche River (named by French fur trappers in the 1700s and means "pretty fork river"). The river carved most of the landscape that exposed Devil's Tower. The present day name of the Tower was named by Colonel Richard Dodge in 1875 when he led an expedition sent to confirm reports of gold being discovered in the Black Hills and to survey the area.
