Its the 7th of September, two months since starting an EU Rail Pass valid 6 July to the 5th September. Now with a few days in Germany before heading to the UK, a chance to relax as ironic as that sounds, and having contracted a slight fever, grey rain clouds outside, it seems like perfect space to record the trip before it blends into the wonders of memory. Its been a huge 2 months. The trip has been big, its been diverse, and its been long. It also went quickly. It chopped and changed. At the end of it, I'm tired, certainly no longer a vegetarian (what with CurryWurst in Germany to experience and a 1.5 kilo knee of hog in Prague! although I would like to pick that up again-travel has to include experiencing food), ... read more

Barcelona 14-22nd June Amer 22-29th June 'Just had a cleansing shower after getting really dirty hobbit feet, went to the 17th annual international festival of multimedia art (or something to that effect) in my flip flops, which was perfectly matched with the 22 degree blue skied glory that Barcelona put on for us today' .extract from mail sent 17th June 2010. One week in Barcelona with Kees Janssen, of part with Sally Janssen, Chris (Kees' brother in law), Tom and Juilanne (ex pat kiwis living in Amer, Catalonia, North Eastern Spain from 2002). Here we are again on that adventurous road. Departed Vancouver on a sunny Saturday June 5th 2010 at 16:35, arriving around 10:30 Monday morning at Frankfurt International to an unbelievable 30 degree european summer day. Two freinds Anna and Ole picked me up from the airport which is such an easy transition in a new country. We spent the afternoon walking around Frankfurt, eating in an italian pizzapastaria. First taste of older european arcitecture and immeditely taken by it, its everywhere and its beautiful. Where we are for the night (have spent a day at Anna and Ole's before car pooling to Stuttgart this evening) in Bad Homburg (a half hour from Frankfurt Main), has two churches withen 1000m of the apartment (that i know of), and they both compare to the Christchurch Cathedral, the main ... read more

Long awaited diary, its been 10 months since arriving in New Zealand, country of origin, following a solid 2.5 years abroad. As is such the old travel blog has gathered some cobwebs, only last night the thought of a rainy day for the benefit of those back abroad occur ed, as it happens after a beautifully sunny spring morning in Christchurch, it started pissing down. Since arriving back its been one huge amazing holiday ride, piggybacking the efforts working in Canada the other winter stopping only to help demolish our old weatherboard home for 2 months. It began in Jan returning for that said wedding, that of Scott and Kirsty Kerrigan a just cause for getting back to NZ for a while, bringing with it many other ex pat friends, which saw the better part of ... read more

Geez. Without a doubt that was the best Indian dish that I have ever eaten in my whole entire life, and im not just exaggerating for the point of expression, seriously, it was an unreal deal. You could say that its a damn shame one does not find these places at the start of a trip, although its a bloody good way to say fair-well to India. A local to Sudder/Park Street area renowned to tourists, Gounders Restaurant. Paneer Channa, Cheese-Chick Pea curry, which usually does not come together, and they are of late the favourites in dishes so perhaps a contributing factor to the dish in that it was exactly what one was after but above all of that favouritism, unreal. Like mmm this is sooo good by myself at a table good. In ones ... read more

Having met two favourable Australian chaps in Rishikesh who unannounced to myself were high on Valumn at the time and therefore quite agreeable, it was decided that traveling North as a trio would be a particularly friendly idea, having survived both the mighty Ganga River (Ganges) together on a floating vessel and the abuse and hassle of the local convenience store shafting us after a week of custom to their shop, not impressed were we to say the least. Well done Tommo on assisting with rubbing it in their face when the authorities decided we were nice enough to sort it out and recover the money, it was brilliant. So on the way to Dharamsala, we stopped in Mussorie for two nights, via the Dehra Dun bus exchange, to a hill station much like Darjeeling only ... read more

Ok Fearon, sounds great. This was the entry into India, an invitation from a friend whom crossed paths during an evening in Thailand down South, to receiving an invite to an area where it was for sure known that cups of tea are famous for its being. A spontaneous entry into Calcutta following the intention of a cheap plane ticket from Bangkok, leading to an apartment housed by beautiful Irish lasses hanging out helping whipper snappers in the area of TullyGunge, leading to a weekend with Fearons Mum and two of her friends who were heading into Darjeeling for the experience and to catch up with some friends of old. Today is a Thursday, which means exactly two weeks in India, and far out what a trip so far, its quite a ride. Taking a few ... read more

Left home in Canada on the 17th August 2008 following an amazing summer there, to reunite face to face with family (Mum, Lawson, Joe, Natalie) after 2 years on the international road, at Dad and Rotchana's home (present) in Nong Bua Lamphu. It was great to spend a week lounging around together, getting into Motorcycle accidents and playing the fool with my sister. After three days enjoying creature comforts in a Bangkok hotel and shopping it was farewell to family until January on onwards solo. Rather than heading straight to India it was decided to head to Railey Beach in Krabi for a couple of weeks of beach and climbing. It ended up pretty much being all beach, with an amazing Team from England, you know who you are. As I sit here, its 10:31am, Bangkok, ... read more

Following a month back in the city of Vancover following the trip to Victoria, I moved onto an island north east of Nanimo off the East Coast of Vancouver Island to help Paul, Helena and the other Volunteers over the summer with the Whale Recordings and generally running an isolated piece of paradise. It was an amazing place to spend summer and by far a highlight of time spent in Canada, if not the highlight. While there it felt like home, and it feels like a place to return to, so until next time, SARCHI,keep your location a secret. ... read more
