Kota Bharu After the Perhentian Islands we took a boat back to the mainland then a quick taxi ride to Khota Bharu where we stayed two nights before heading to Kuching. In Kota Bharu itself there isn't much to do or see so on our first day we arrived around lunch time and headed to a Chinese restaurant recommended in our guide book that sold cheap beer. As usual we were only intending to go for a couple of drinks but then we met a couple of middle aged guys from Germany and started chatting to them (I thought they were [View Full Entry]

Well we've been pretty crap getting the blog updated lately so this may be a long one. Enjoy! Penang We travelled for about 12 hours by boat and then 2 buses to get to Penang in North West Malaysia. It's funny because I was sure when booking our tickets it was supposed to be a boat and only one bus and take just 7 hours. These crazy travel agents really do love to keep us on our toes. Once we finally arrived it was about 10pm so we just picked a guesthouse out of the guide book and took a room. [View Full Entry]

Koh Lanta Our trip over to Koh Lanta was done on a very short boat ride of 1 1/2 hours. While we were on the boat we got approached by a guy called Coco who ran one of the guest houses on Koh Lanta. Coco showed us his leaflet for his guest house and we thought it was too good to be true, it looked lovely and it had a swimming pool! We asked him how much it was and he said they had a special promotion as they don't normally open this time of year. He said it would cost [View Full Entry]

We're actually in Malaysia now so once again we've been seriously lazy with the updates so this might be quite a long one. Koh Chang We made it into Thailand on the 17th April and our first stop was the island of Koh Chang near the Cambodian border. We arrived after dark so just picked a guesthouse out of the guide book and headed there. The rooms were too expensive for us so we were just walking out when the owner said he did have some 'cheap cheap' bungalows out the back. There was a reason they were 'cheap cheap'. The [View Full Entry]

It's Vickie writing again as Jack's feeling too lazy! Phnom Penh We arrived in Cambodia on 1st April. We made friends with a fellow traveller called Michael on the bus who had been to Phnom Penh before and also recommended a guest house to us. We went with him to The Drunken Frog (Sounded good to us!). It was made up of small rooms over the lake on stilts. It was lovely watching the sunset and the thunderstorms from. We were a bit wary of going to Phnom Penh originally because we heard some negative comments from people we have met [View Full Entry]

Hi it's Vickie writing the entry today. Hoi An When we arrived in Hoi An we were just amazed with the place instantly. Its like a little french town, really pretty and quaint. All of the buildings and architecture was so lovely and it had a river running through it with really great restaurants and bars you could sit at and admire the view (and people watch!) You can also get really reasonable priced dinners at the street stalls, our favourite was Cao Lao which is noodles, pork, vegetables and nuts. YUMMY! There is a beach 4 kilometers away from the [View Full Entry]

Leaving Laos When we last wrote we were just leaving Laos and in order to do this we had to get yet another bus. So on March 1st we left from Pakse to Hue in Vietnam which was only supposed to be 9 hours but turned into the inevitable 12 hours. The border crossing passed without event. The border guard did ask me what my name was when he had my passport but luckily I managed to pass his cunning test. Almost as soon as we entered Vietnam the difference from Laos was obvious. The landscape was lush and green and [View Full Entry]

Since our last entry we've made it into Laos and back out again into Vietnam so we're a bit behind on the blog updates. Getting in to Laos was our first border crossing without having to get on a plane and it couldn't have been easier. From the Thai border town of Chiang Kong we just had go to a little shed to get stamped out of Thailand and then jumped on a longtail boat across the Mekong river to Huay Xai in Loas which took all of 2 minutes. Once we got to the other side we filled out a [View Full Entry]

Bangkok Hi Everyone, this is Vickie, yes I can type and it's my turn to update the blog. Sorry it's been such a long time since we last put anything on here but we have been so busy chilling out so this is going to be a long one! We flew to Bangkok from Goa but it took us a lot longer than the 21 hours we expected, it took about 29 hours which was fun, this is because the time of our flight from Singapore had changed and we hadn't been told. We flew from Goa-Mumbai-Singapore-Bangkok and by the end [View Full Entry]

We thought it was about time we did a bit of an update as we've been a bit lazy over the last couple of weeks with Christmas and New Year. It's a bit of a long one so make sure your sitting comfortably. We spent 5 nights in Varkala and it was a really chilled out place. We bumped into an English guy we'd already met before in Goa called Steve and his German girlfriend Evy so we had a couple of evenings meeting up with them just hanging out in a bar which was cool. We ended up leaving on [View Full Entry]
