Well, we lied, we're still here and still having fun. We've downgraded our drinks from Irish coffee to Smithwick's (an old people's beer, Thanks Anne!) because it's cheaper and we don't know how long we might be here. You know us, trying to be thrifty! The flights were all cancelled for today because of the volcano ash. We are rescheduled for tomorrow morning, but not sure if it will be cancelled too. We had some celebrity sightings today. Where's Tiger Woods????? We know, we saw him at the bar in Temple Bar area and we have a picture to prove it. We also saw Sean Connery weaving down the street. He looked two sheets to the wind. It's going to be awfully hot on the plane tomorrow because we will have to each wear 3 tee ... read more

Well, we are officially known as "The Americans". We turned off some lamp posts last night after the medival dinner, and probably will not be able to come back to that town. Not so many Irish coffees today, energy lagging. We are starting to wind down. Sounds like the volcano is under control and airplanes are flying again, so we'll be on our flight as scheduled. Today we stopped at the Irish Stud Farm (they sure make some good looking men here), and the Japanese Gardens on our way back to Dublin for our last night. We had a ball with our travel mates: the McDonald's (Butch, Betsy and Trish), the Sagers (Willy and Kaye), the Wrights (Bo and Wiley) and our tour guide Jim who was so patient and kind to all of us drunks. ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Clare » Cliffs of Moher May 3rd 2010

Took the ferry across the River Shannon over to County Clare. Stopped at the Cliffs of Moher and at O'Brien Tower which over looks the Cliffs which was pretty exciting for Colleen. She hasn't stopped telling us that she is an O'Brien and has relatives here and has connections. Went to a medival dinner with singing lords and ladies at Bunratty Castle. We drank Mead which is a wine with honey mixed in it. It was outlawed until about 10 years ago, pretty potent. Typically, it was given to people who were just married and they would drink it for 30 days after their wedding hence honeymoon wine. It was supposed to make them fertile. After dinner, we came back to the hotel bar and watched the volcano explode again. Who knows when we'll get home. ... read more

We were so excited to see all the comments for our trip, they were wonderful and fun to read. Today we saw the Ring of Kerry (it is a place, not jewelry) had an Irish coffee. Saw sheep being hurded, it was very cold, had an Irish coffee which warded off the chill. Saw beautiful beaches and had a Bailey's coffee, contemplated a dip in the ocean but forgot our wet suits so had an Irish coffee instead. Had lunch off the fisherman's wharf (Port McGee) from a waitress nazi, found an Irish laddie at said port (Mihal "Michael" O'Sullivan), slipped off our chairs but didn't spill a drop. Got back on the bus and full speed to the church! Rang the bells at church with Irish coffee in hand, but Father O'Malley said it was ... read more

Toured Dublin Castle, Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Guinness Brewery and to the top of Guinness to the Gravity Room. Road the Hop On-Hop Off Bus all over Dublin. This money thing is a real issue, going from pounds to Euros has been a challenge especially at the bus stop. Now you wouldn't think $1.20 would throw you into a tither, but .... This is for all you die-hard Catholics out there, did you know St. Patrick's wasn't Catholic anymore? I hate to burst your bubble, but it was Catholic for 500 years but now it is Episcopal. But guess what, they still sell rosaries.. hmmmm. We made it to the pub last night for dinner and they had Irish dancers and singers who were awesome. We all sang and danced with them and had ... read more

Sorry we weren't able to blog yesterday because it was too late when we got back to the hotel. So to catch you up on what we've done: yesterday we gave a real bad name to Colorado because we were late for the bus after lunch and then we went to a whiskey distillery and were late for the bus again. Fran made up some wild story about a bunch of sheep blocking the road and that we couldn't get back. Of course, no one believed it. We got to Edinburgh about 4:30 and left the hotel at 6:00 to go to dinner at a pub in downtown Edinburgh. We sat with a couple from Florida who were quite "unique" but it was pretty fun just to listen to her talk, and talk, and talk. After ... read more

Can't be positive, but we think we had a bagpiper ghost in our bathroom because we heard bagpipes all night. We asked everyone else but nobody else heard it. At breakfast Colleen made us all try black pudding (blood pudding) and haggis. Haggis is made from sheep organs mixed with onion, oatmeal, suet and salt. Neeps and tatties mixed with stock and simmered in the animals stomach for 3 hours..GROSS!! Today we followed the River Clyde down to Loch Ness where we spotted Nessy! We even got a picture of him. Then we saw more water, water, water, lochs, firths ... it got a little confusing for everyone. We saw our first castle at Uraquat. Beautiful. We just arrived at Charlie Chaplin's summer hotel in Nairn Scotland to spend the night. Very swanky! We just had ... read more

We arrived in Scotland at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night without incident. We were very tired, so we hit the nearest pub! While at our table eating and drinking and laughing, there was a group of young people at the table next to us offered us (Fran) a drink and suggested that we chug it, but we couldn't understand their accent, so we didn't know what we were drinking, but we did it anyway Oh well! Finding out later that it was Jagermeister and Red Bull. So after 24 hours of no sleep, we're drinking Red Bull! So we walked back to our hotel and crashed. We got up with hang overs and went to church this morning. After church we walked down to the square for a coffee and there were bagpipe and drummers on the ... read more
