Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Note their size, compared to the human figures.
Every year at Christmas, The City exhibits an enormous Seasonal Display rivaling any large City in the U.S. in spite of our balmy tropical winter. Of course there is a tall Christmas Tree with tons of lights, humongous Christmas figures like Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Snow Family, Elves, etc., Christmas Tree and Wreath Exhibits, a Night Light Parade, Christmas Concert and much much more. This project got started about 20 years ago, by a feisty ex-Marine Mayor formerly from a New England State. He was a controversial figure, who was quite a Maverick you might say and you either like him [View Full Entry]

A friend told me that Halloween in Waikiki is a must see, with people wearing the most funniest and ingenious costumes. As far as I was concern it was Halloween, Smalloween, different strokes for different folks; what may be fun and interesting for him, may not necessary be for me. So for many years I just ignored his suggestion. Then came 9/11. Mentioning the year, I guess is not really necessary, nor mentioning what happened on that date. Of course, for me, and I can imagine for most Americans, it was a time of great sadness and confusion. Yes, it was [View Full Entry]

Pow Wow Luau North America » United States » Hawaii » Oahu
Usually every Autumn the Native American Community puts on a Pow-Wow at Thomas Square, located almost in the center of Honolulu, sandwiched between the Honolulu Academy of Arts and the Blaisdell Concert and Exhibit Hall and Arena. Various stalls are set up, selling NA jewelry, pottery, T-shirts, CDs, sweet grass, handcrafted items. Books, photos and Indian Tacos, a round deep fried bread topped with refried beans, diced tomatoes, cheese, lettuce and salsa. Quite tasty and popular among the spectators. The main draw of course is the dancing and elaborate costumes of the participants, a [View Full Entry]

Being from a tropical place, where would you think I’d find attractive as a vacation destination? For me, it’s obvious, someplace untropical as possible, yet, beautiful and not uncomfortable. Vancouver, I find fits the bill quite nicely. And since I’m in the area, why not a trip to Victoria and Buchart Gardens, on the island of Vancouver. Vancouver itself, however is not located on that island, but on the mainland itself. Confused? You’re not alone. Vancouver City is a growing modern city full of life and many places of interest to the visitor. There’s C [View Full Entry]

Returno to Toronto. Yes, I’d like to do that again someday. It’s a very pleasant, fun and interesting city to stay at. It’s large within many attractions to explore and not get bored, has a tall beautiful skyline that can take your breath away, viewed from many different angles. It has many different ethnic neighborhoods for variety, and has a very safe small town feel to it. It’s Chinatown is huge, and nearby are also various ethnic shops and business like a Little Portugal. All over sprinkled through the city are East Indian and West Indies Restaurants, whic [View Full Entry]

Where I come from, waterfalls are common, so I had to see for myself, if Niagra would be that much more stupendous. When I reach there, even before actually seeing it, I could hear it's thunderous roar. Seeing it also was another great surprise, seeing it’s expanse, height, power and beauty really really impressed me. However, words can not do it justice, perhaps video clips could help, which I’m sorry I have none of. So I guess photos will have to suffice. Also on the way back to the bus station, came across a park with mini-replicas of famous landmarks. Enjoyed [View Full Entry]

Something Old, S.T. New, S.T. Frenchie, S.T. Cool. Montreal has all of the above, which made it a good choice for me to visit. I like cities that have some sort of history in it’s past and tangible aspects of it, which in Montreal case, are it’s many old, French structures. Also evident, were the British influence, who of course, won the war, so many Victorian Houses were constructed and thankfully preserved. Having modern buildings also is not a bad thing, of which there were quite a few of. It’s nothing like Toronto’s or Hong Kong's, but enough to give the [View Full Entry]

Cool, Oui?

Who knows, this conversation might have taken place 300 years ago in a tavern in this beautiful city of Quebec, founded by Samuel de Chaplain for the booming Fur Trade. When I learned that the River I was looking at, from the Broadwalk like structure called Dufferin Terrace, was named the St. Lawerence River; I started to reminisce of my school days in American History class. Unlike Math and other classes, history really stimulated my imagination, and names like Jacque Cartier, Samuel de Chaplain, Hudson Trading Co., and St. Lawrence River put me in a Walter Mitty state of mind. A Druid, a Knight, a Poet and a Senator Walked into a Bar….. Well, it didn’t really happen, but this journal is about Stonehenge, Warwick Castle, Strafford on the Avon and Bath, England. The title is just a cheap attempt to hopefully get people to read my journal and view my photos. Even as a little kid in grade school, when I happened to see the picture of Stonehenge in England, in a book called the Book of Knowledge, I had a feeling that these stack of Rocks were really special, and to be able to see it in real life [View Full Entry]

After alighting from the train from the Chunnel, I hailed a cab to my hotel. On the way over, a most beautiful sight caught my eyes. It was the Parliament Building bathing in the golden evening sun, and if there was such a thing as El Dorado, this would be it. I knew what was on the itinerary of my list to see the next day. I found catching the Tube or subway, is you may, quite easy compared to Paris. It was surprising through you need to get an elevator down to the level where your platform was.
