We spent just over two months in Hastings, although it seems like a whole lot more. At some points it felt like we'd never leave, never be allowed to leave by the unknown omnipotent force that kept us there when the whole of NZ was there waiting for us... We arrived back from Laswon on the train, tired and insect-bite-ridden. My hand in particular had swollen to gigantic proportions after being bitten by some creature - probably best that I don't know what creature it was... The base for these last 2 days was the quite horrible Cooee backpackers. They believe a 'double-room' to be a tiny hole with a bunk bed cramped in between the protons and neutrons...
