Flat Stanley

Hi,

My name is Flat Tyler, I live in Newark, California. We've just finished the story about Flat Stanley and read all about all of his adventures. Flat Stanley came to see me in California and he's already had lots more adventures with me like becoming a kite once! Flat Stanley wants to travel more though so my Mom asked a friend of hers who lives in France if Flat Stanley could come and visit her and she said yes.

So we sent Flat Stanley on his way in the mail to France. He's lucky to travel via mail, it's much cheaper than an airfare and it didn't take him long to arrive! This travel blog is all about Flat Stanley's travels abroad, so we can see where he's travelled to, who he has met and the things he has got up to until he goes back to see me again next year in May 2011!

Flat Stanley is so excited about his world travels and all the new adventures awaiting him over the next few months!

I'm still in pretty good shape despite my world travels! Singapore is an amazing place, it is a small republic country made up of 63 islands, there's hardly any rainforest left here though due to all the building and they are now starting to reclaim land so they can build more. Did you know that each of the countries that make up the United Kingdom each have their own patron saints who have been chosen as the protector of the nation. For Wales it is Saint David who is their patron saint and they celebrate Saint David's day each year on March 1st. England has Saint George and Scotland has Saint Andrew. In addition to Saint David for Wales, the Welsh also have a Dragon as their emblem, how cool is that, like out of Harry Potter! You can see it on their national flag. Here's the story centuries ago a red dragon fought with an invading White Dragon. His pained shrieks caused women to become ill, animals to perish and plants to become barren. Lludd, king of Britain, went to his wise brother Llefelys in France. ... read more

I thought you'd like to see these pictures I took of some of the countryside in Wales, it's so green and hilly. On the island where we are staying I also saw some puffins! They are sooo cute, just take a look at their lovely striped beaks, aren't they lovely! In the hotel we were staying at (which is a really old manor house) they had lots of red squirrels! I don't know if you know but in the United Kingdom they only ever used to have red squirrels, and then one day someone brought grey squirrels back from their journeys in the Americas and the grey squirrels then stole all the red squirrels houses, naughty grey squirrels...the red squirrels were then homeless! Today they are trying to reintroduce the red squirrel back into the environment ... read more

The busiest mountain in Britain! And the highest mountain in Wales. We went here on our 4th day in Wales, it was a very misty morning and got even mistier as we climbed up the slopes that we could hardly see anything of the countryside around. Snowdon is located in the Snowdon national park, it is really beautiful place to visit. The English name "Snowdon" comes from the Old English Snow Dun, meaning "snow hill" due to the significant falls of snow each winter from October to April. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowdon... read more

llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch........ This believe it or not is the name of a Welsh town....now that's a name! Bet you can't say it...! And here's how it's pronounced (click on the link below), what a mouthful indeed! http://www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk/say.php Originally the village was called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means 'The Mary Church by the pool near the White Hazels' the village was renamed in the 19th century. Why ? This was around the time when the railway was built between Chester and Holyhead at the beginning of the 1850's. A local committee was put together to try and encourage trains, travellers and 19th century tourists to stop at the village in order to help develop the village as a commercial and tourist centre. It is believed that the name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrob... read more
